Great location for exploring the Black Hills by car, clean and well maintained, we found it comfortable and quiet in a lovely town, Elsa & Marty were generous and super helpful, we would easily stay here again.
Elsa and Marty were awesome hosts! They're some of the warmest and friendliest people. They brought over freshly ground organic coffee, produce from their CSA, checked in regularly to see if we needed anything, and invited us to their family's bonfire one evening. They have three great children who are equally friendly and fun. Our dogs loved playing with their youngest son (he is adorable!). As far as the house, it was clean and well-furnished, with a comfortable bed and well-stocked kitchen to cook meals at home. The area received a lot of rain before and during our stay, which meant the mosquitoes and moths were a bit of a pain, just FYI.
Great place to stay. Very nice neighborhood - reminded us of the windy, hilly (and a little confusing) streets back in Pittsburgh.
The Carriage House is really nice - definitely big enough for 4 people (or more). Nicely decorated with comfortable beds, living room with lots of seating, nice dining area, well equipped kitchen and bath. Didn't get to use the outdoor space (or hot tub) - it was raining the entire time we were there. Because of the rain, we didn't get to walk around Hot Springs at all - we only visited the Mammoth Site there (loved it).
Elsa was away, but we did meet Marty the day we were leaving. Really nice guy who stood out in the rain and talked with us for a while. Would have liked to have had more time to talk. We definitely recommend staying here.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The carriage house was as described and we were able to use it as our base of operations for touring and enjoying the Black Hills. It was much more enjoyable to stay in a 1896 Carriage House which had been updated and had a kitchen so we could take care of some of our meals with out having to go out all the time. It had much more character and interest than a cookie cutter hotel room in some normal hotel. Elsa Marty+3 Meyer were a great host family and made us feel welcome and helped with our questions about the area. The wife and daughter loved the hot tub which was really great with the early snow we got in Hot Springs. Snow and a hot tub are always a great mix and make for a unique experience. The snow also reinforced the boy scout motto of always be prepared. I would recommend the Carriage house to anyone going to the Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore area.
Great Location to enjoy the Stugis Rally and Black Hills
