I totally enjoyed my stay in the Carriage House! It was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and easy to use. The hot tub is just a few steps outside your back door, literally. The location is easy to access and a perfect home base for Black Hills adventures. Elsa was a perfect host - helpful and available but gave me privacy. I will stay here again next year and plan on an extended visit. Thanks to the Meyers, Chris
I've been renting the Carriage House since before it was listed on Airbnb, and I've always enjoyed my stays. Elsa and Marty are great hosts, and the Carriage House is quiet, but centrally located in Hot Springs. I'm a touring musician, and it's nice to have a place where I can productively use my downtime. Internet access is good, and the house is within walking distance of the Post Office and shopping and dining on River Street.
We had a wonderful stay at the Carriage House. It was splendidly situated for our first visit to the Black Hills and was very well equipped to meet all our needs. The icing on the cake was Elsa, Marty and their three wonderful kids - all of them a real credit to their parents, confident, self possessed and just a joy. Elsa was an attentive and considerate host and, health permitting, I cannot wait to make another visit to this wonderful part of the world and to renew my acquaintance with the lovely Meyer family.
Per usual, we waited to the last minute to find accommodationbs, although we knew we were heading to South Dakota! Luckily, I turned to Air BNB because we wanted a place with some room to spread out in and to prepare meals. We were so happy to have found The Carriage House. It was absolutely perfect for us--cozy, clean, charming. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly by the Meyer family. If you're planning to stay in the Black Hills, don't pass this one up as a place to stay.
We enjoyed our stay in the Carriage House and especially the nearby Mommoth Site. Elsa and Marty were lovely and welcoming and the house had everything we needed for our stay.
Elsa, Marty and their family have a wonderful home that offered us a much needed respite on our cross country trip. The home is spacious (we were a party of 5) and Hot Springs is an adorable town close to many sights.
This place is a bit off the beaten path for most of the "tourists" items around Mount Rushmore. However, we found the best site in the Black hills to be in the same town as this B&B, more on this later.
As far as the house goes, it is great. Plenty of room. A nice bedroom downstairs, a bedroom upstairs. A great living room and a kitchen to cook anything from a small breakfast to a dinner feast for 10. And the hosts are just plain wonderful people. Thanks for letting us stay.
Now for the best site in the Black Hills. Sure Mount Rushmore is nice, Crazy horse is a must see and the museum there is getting better every time we visit. Deadwood is, well as far as I'm concerned, dead. If you like gambling, go for it, but I will never be back. But I was astounded at the Mammoth Site. What a gem of a place sitting off the beaten path just down the road from this B&B. If you like natural history, this place will blow your mind.
I was a little surprised at the age of the house. It is over 100years old and naturally it wasn't as modern as most of the place we've stayed. But overall we had no complaints with the house. The A/C worked and the bathroom has been updated.
This house is accurately described in AirBNB and in fact was more spacious than it looked in the photos. The moment we got there we felt 100% comfortable. We had two adults and two teenagers and had plenty of room. Elsa and Marty and their children were delightful hosts. Because you share the yard you see a bit more of them than you might other AirBNB hosts, but that was all good. They invited us to use their BBQ which was great and much appreciated. We found this a great base to visit the nearby National Parks, Mt Rushmore etc. Hot Springs is a cool little town. I highly recommend The Carriage House.
A very nice setting in safe and quite town. Friendly welcome :-) I will hopefully visit again some time.
