We live next door and are available for all your needs, questions, concerns and information. We can point you to all our favorite hiking, biking, eating, drinking, etc.
Mendocino has so much to offer like Ocean kayaking, rivers, beaches, redwoods, dining, wine tasting, shopping and hiking. Our cottage offers great access to all of these opportunities, as well as a restful retreat from your every-day worries.
Public transportation is very limited in Mendocino. The best way to get around is by foot, bike, or car.
Other Things to Note
About cell coverage: Verizon and US Cellular work wonderfully. AT&T and T-Mobile have no coverage at the cottage, but will work in the village of Mendocino.
We do have a rooster that resides about two hundred feet from the cabin. He's not obnoxious, but he does crow a bit in the morning.
Please no smoking except outside on patio.
Please conserve water (we're on a poorly producing well).
Please relax and enjoy yourself.
This little cabin was beautiful, quiet, and more than what the pictures show. The host was very friendly and accomodating with many little extras like fresh eggs, english muffins, little vases with fresh flowers. To top it off, Morgan is a wood worker as is my husband and he was kind enough to show him his shop and some of the things he was working on. The yards is beautiful, the weather was beautiful and we couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.
My husband and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary at Morgan and Viv's cottage. This cottage was absolutely adorable. Very homey and had everything we needed stocked in the kitchen. The garden was amazing to sit in and eat breakfast or enjoy a glass of wine. Morgan and Viv seemed were very friendly and even let us enjoy their bikes and recommended a beautiful ride close to the cottage. I would spend every weekend here if I could. A special Thanks to our hosts for sharing this beautiful cottage with us.
Morgan was great. The cottage is very nice - extremely comfortable for two people and you feel like you have your own space. Short commute to the village of Mendocino, and Morgan was generous in offering to let me borrow bikes or kayaks to explore.
Re: Mendocino Country Cabin.
This is a fabulous place to stay while visiting Mendocino! Morgan and Viv are the perfect hosts. I was welcomed with a bottle of local red wine, fresh chicken eggs, cozy warm surroundings, beautiful garden. Morgan and Viv are friendly and provide so many amenities, such as bikes, beach chairs, towels...just about anything I needed.
I would recommend this "Zen Den" to anyone who wants a relaxing stay with a country feel yet close to town and activities.
Thank you Morgan and Viv for providing such a wonderful place to stay during my vacation. I want to come back soon!

What a wonderful place! We look for cozy, out of the way spots when we travel and have stayed in a lot of places, but Morgan's cabin has to be on the top of our list. The yard and surroundings were spectacular with the rhododendrons in bloom and the gorgeous landscaping. And the amenities were everything we could possibly have needed. Morgan was the perfect host, asking how he could make us more comfortable. It was nice to see Morgan and Vivian across the way watering their garden and gathering eggs from the hen house. We would love to visit again soon.
What a delightful stay. Morgan arrived to greet us at a prearranged time (communication was excellent) and thoroughly familiarized us with the cabin, which was comfortable and situated in a beautiful setting just outside of town. Oh, and as other reviewers have mentioned, he left a complimentary bottle of wine and some fresh eggs. What a nice touch. My wife and I stayed for three days and found the space to be ideal. We enjoyed warm nights by the 'fireplace', a comfortable bed, bathroom and unique living space, complete with kitchen and all the amenities, and spent some time out on the patio as well, which is framed by Morgan's backyard, garden and some old-growth trees. I highly recommend Morgan's cabin for your Mendocino getaway!
Our whole experience was what we were hoping for - easy going, relaxing and a very nice location close to town in a quiet neighborhood very close to town. Morgan & Viv checked in on us to make sure we had what we needed, and told us to stop by if we needed anything (we didn't - everything was great). We will definitely consider staying here again on our next trip to Mendocino.
About the Host, Morgan
My Wife, Vivian, and I live in Mendocino, CA. We are healthcare professionals (Vivian is a RN; I am a paramedic). We love the outdoors, music, and gardening. We have 3 children, ages 10, 17, and 22.
We have done a lot of traveling. Every year we put a lot of work into making sure we're getting our fix! We've traveled extensively in Latin America. We've also been to Europe and China. Vivian went to Haiti as part of the medical relief effort after the earthquake in 2010. We love getting into the mountains for both summer and winter activities. This year we are traveling to France and Italy.
It is a pleasure to now have a space of our own that we can offer to travelers. We look forward to meeting you and providing you with a peaceful retreat.
The trail head for access to Big River Beach is at the parking lot behind this iconic church on Main St. Talk to us about other beach access.
This is the only grocery store in town and it's really quite nice for it's size. If you need more you'll have to go to Fort Bragg.
Good pizza and ice cream.
Lot's of good beer on tap and good food in the tradition of an Irish Pub.
Good bakery fare. Great coffee and espresso drinks.
Our favorite breakfast in town (but you have to get there before 9:45 am). Also a nice bar which sometimes features acoustic music.
Rent bikes and canoes here.
A traditional bar. Open later than Patterson's Pub. A little rougher around the edges.
Walk around Heeser Drive or the trails on the Headlands for beautiful views of the Ocean and access to beaches and tide pools. Careful on the trails that get close to the edge!
This is a great trail for biking and hiking. It's relatively level with views of Big River the whole way.
This is the closest emergency room. It's 10 miles away.
