About this listing
We are located in the beautiful Mare Island in Vallejo, CA. This safe and quiet neighborhood is about 20 minutes from the Wine Country (Napa/Sonoma) and 40 minutes from SF. We have two guest bedrooms and can comfortably accommodate up to three people (or four a bit snugly).
This listing is unique because the neighborhood is just gorgeous and peaceful. In addition, we are located close to Napa, several golf courses, Six Flags, several Outlets, Sonoma (Sears Point) Race Track, and San Francisco. A truly sweet location.
We also have free parking!
Guests have access to the private bedrooms, bathroom, half bath, kitchen, living room, laundry area, and garage (where we keep the bicycles, elliptical, yoga mat, weights, etc). In sum, pretty much the whole house. We also have a grill outside and guests can barbecue - if desired.
If we are receiving more than 2 guests, the additional guests (up to 2 more, total of 4 people) can use a second guest bedroom which has a futon (as pictured) and an optional airbed.
Interaction with Guests
We love to chat and to make new friends, but will respect your space and privacy.
What I love about the neighborhood is how friendly the neighbors are. This place is very pretty, safe and quiet. Mare Island is an old naval base, so there's a lot of history to it. We also have the Mare Island Golf Club, the oldest course west of the Mississippi.
We are located across the Bay from San Francisco.
There is a Ferry and a bus that connect Vallejo to SF. You can catch them at the Ferry Terminal, less than 5 minutes from our location.
Napa is just a short drive away (about 20 minutes). Driving to The City takes about 40 minutes without traffic.
IMPORTANT: Please note that we do not have public transportation on the island, so we highly recommend that you have a vehicle available.
You can park for free at my job in Oakland and take Bart to SF (a 10-minute walk to the West Oakland station). This way you'll save on the Bay Bridge toll and won't have to worry about parking in SF (it can be pricey and difficult to find a spot). Just ask us about it.

Very prompt reply and very helpful instructions. The house is very charming, located in a quite safe and quiet neighborhood. George and Thais are great hosts. The house and the family are so organized that everyone will easily get familiar with.
It is well worth recommending!
Thais and George are great couple, we are very happy to stay with them! Thais is like a big sister, take care of everyone and provide everything we need. The house is also neat, great location to visit Bay area, everything is handy. Btw, George's coffee is great! Hope we could stay longer.
This was a great place to stay. Our hosts were very nice and helpful. The rooms were very clean and the bathroom was well stocked with towels. The neighborhood was quiet and scenic. Overall a great experience!
Thais and George were amazing hosts. They were helpful with suggesting local wineries, restaurants, etc. Their home was beautiful. It couldn't have been cleaner and was very comfortable.
Vallejo is a little further away from the city than I would normally think of as a convenient location, but with a little careful planning, the drive is very manageable. George and Thais were very accommodating, and we felt immediately welcome in their well-appointed space. We even ran into some problems with our car, that without Thai and George, would have left us in a very inconvenient position. Thais whipped up some pancakes for our last breakfast before hitting the road, provided wonderful company, and great conversation. Both George and Thais were a tremendous source of information, and I'd be quite happy to use their space again as a base for forays into the Napa Valley, or as a stopover point between camping sites on the north side of San Francisco.
My boyfriend and I stayed with Thais & George after a long day in the Napa Valley. They were extremely hospitable from providing additional traveler amenities (toothbrushes, shower caps, etc.) to preparing us a delicious breakfast! If you are looking for a cute, clean, comfortable place I would highly recommend staying at their home.
Thais and George were wonderful hosts. They opened their home to us as if it were our own. We enjoyed a comfortable night stay and learned from them several area attractions which helped us plan another wonderful day in the area. The home is clean, well set up for guests, and they went out of their way to make us feel comfortable.
About the Host, Thais
I'm Brazilian, pretty easygoing and will do my best to have our guests feel welcome. I am a Sociology major, and Global Poverty and Practice minor at UC Berkeley. I work as an Administrative Manager at MaestroConference in Oakland.
It may be biased of me, but my hometown (Florianopolis) is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and I recommend a trip there.
Five things that I cannot live without are my books, leave-in conditioner, sunscreen, work, and going to church (not exactly in this order). George, my husband, is not listed here because he's not a thing (but he is the most amazing guy I know and I couldn't live without him either).
Here are a few other things that I recommend:
BOOKS: "100 Years Of Solitude", and "Slavery by Another Name"
MOVIES: "District 9", and "Miss Ever's Boys"
TV SHOWS: "The Big Bang Theory", and "The X Files"
MUSIC: "Tamela Mann", and "Amy Winehouse"
FOOD: Indian, Mexican, and Thai - yum!
Having me as host means that you have someone you can count on. I will make sure that you feel as comfortable in our home as if it was your own.
I don't have a set life motto but I am a firm believer of doing what's right.
As Dr. King once said, "I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear."

Enjoy your trip!
