The five of us had a great stay at the apartment. The pictures represent the apartment quite well. It is located in a lovely neighborhood with a supermarket just around the corner. For four persons the apartment is ideal. More is possible, but then it gets a little crowed. We didn't really mind because we were out exploring the city most of the time.
Conclusion: Overall good value for money and I can recommend the place.
I can't say enough about the 13th Street NW beautiful home! I know I'm only echoing others, but this place is beautiful. Where do I start…? This property was exactly what we (meaning I) had searched months for! I am very specific, and thankfully I had a wide range of options so that I could be as specific as I wanted. The fact that I chose this place says a lot about the property. Here's what I was looking for… Spacious, great decor, well-furnished, CLEAN, safe and of course that WOW factor for my guest I was hosting. First and most importantly, I would rate my experience with the host and the property "10 out of 10" rate the property itself as "5 Stars.” I rented all four levels of this enormous brownstone to celebrate my 30th Birthday and host 16 of my closest friends and family. As I mentioned, I am extremely particular as I mentioned, so it was very important to find a place that was comfortable and spacious enough for 16 adults. After all we would be living under one roof for 5 days. The 13th Street property exceeded my expectations… The house itself is gorgeous and unique in size to especially for Washington DC. Moreover, this house had all the trappings to make my 30th Birthday extravaganza amazing. The property well-furnished has four (4) full kitchens, (4) washer/dryers, and (5) full bathrooms throughout the house. Which means a bathroom, kitchen and washer dryer on each floor!!!? Yes, the house has 4 kitchens, 5 bathrooms, 4 washer/ dryers, total including the basement which I rented as well. Halloween night, (my birthday) I hosted a dinner party for 30 of my friends and we had a spectacular time in the main dining area, which has a table that seat 20! Each level has a different setup and allows you to lock the door and get alone time if needed. Side note: I believe, each floor can be rented separately if you do not need the entire house. The house is a beautiful brownstone building in a brilliant location (Columbia Heights); the house was very clean with light and amazing decor. The beds were very comfortable and made with white linen on each level. Besides the great accommodations, Lois and her partners are great communicator and a wonderful host. Just to note, There are so many personal touches, I feel like I'm blabbering on, but I can't even describe it well enough with words. It was simply amazing!! I never met Lois, I got the keys from the box and put it back when we left. The neighborhood is amazing a well. The street is charming and the neighborhood quiet which was a great way to escape the chaos of the city. One block away you have Giant (a local grocery store) Target, Chipotle, Bed Bath and Beyond, Starbucks, Sticky Fingers Bakery and a host of other shops and restaurants. There is no need to worry about safety, we...
The lower apt was perfect, everything that we expected and more, 5 minutes walks to the metro, giant and a whole lot of restaurants makes the place a really nice vacation spot for tourist that want to get to know the city and then relax when they get home. You can tell by the little details in the place that they're always taking care of you ( body wash in the shower, there's tea and coffe on the kitchen so you dont have to buy one for a few days stay). Overall a great experience, would definitely recommend it!
We had some difficulties communicating with Lois and booking an apartment at first, but everything finally fell into place and we enjoyed staying at the apartment. It was clean, comfortable and conveniently located.
My families experience staying at Lois's Dazzling lower Level Apt. Home was Wonderful! The apartment was lovely, convenient and a perfect fit for my family of five. The neighborhood Columbia Heights was safe and incredibly close to the metro, which is perfect for not having a car. I would recommend this apartment to everyone. Lois was very helpful and patient with all my questions about dc. I always received a prompt response from her. Thanks you again Lois:)
The space is large and tidy with a great location, relative to the metro. Wireless and television worked. I do think six might be a stretch for the space but 5 would work fine.
Lois was always prompt in returning emails with any questions we had and was accommodating on our departure day and let us leave our suitcases in the unit after check out time since we didn't leave until 1 PM. The unit is advertised for 6 adults (we had 6 adults and 2 toddlers), but my family agreed 4 adults would be more comfortable in the unit. The 5th and 6th members of your group will have to use the queen size aero bed and twin size air mattress for sleeping (unfortunately we had to request additional linens for the air mattresses, which were requested before we arrived, AND our request was taken care of that day). A sleeper sofa was advertised, but we could never figure out how to use it as a sleeper and a small adult or child could have used. It was difficult to comfortably accommodate 6 adults in the living room in the evenings (not enough places to sit) and it was difficult to accommodate 6 adults for meals (we could not fit 6 barstools comfortably round the kitchen counter for mealtime). There was not enough dinner ware, flatware and glasses to serve 6 for each meal (could do 6 per meal with what was there, but had to wash dishes every meal). We did purchase disposable glasses, plates and flatware to accommodate our mealtimes. This was our first house rental, so we were unprepared to purchase laundry soap (washer and dryer were great!), dish soap and toilet paper for our stay..once we understood that, we purchased what we needed at the Giant Supermarket. The beds in the two bedrooms were very, very good and very, very comfortable. The temperature was comfortable and we had no issues with that (two fans available for bedrooms, which can get warm with doors shut at night) The one bathroom was not a problem for our group..there was ALWAYS hot water available for showers. Mr. C, the maintenance man was very prompt in returning any texts and answering any questions. The neighborhood amenities were very convenient (about 1/4 mile walk to store and cart is available) as were the Target, Starbucks, Best Buy and Metro Stations and several restaurants. The area is "up and coming" and we always felt safe, but we didn't venture out after dark alone. All in all, for our first rental experience, it was good. We learned a lot for our next adventure!
Everything was o.k. as described in an offer. The metro connection from the city is very good. We were 5 person (one slept on air mattress) but I am wondering where could sleep another person as it was offered as for 4-6 persons. It is not possible, the maximum is 5 according to my opinion. But for better comfort I reccomend this appartment for 4 people. There are 2 rooms with king size beds and one person sleeps in "living room" between the sofa and TV. The appartement is in lower basement.
The communication with the owner was without problems. As we were 5, we have asked for other set of the keys which we have obtained at the same day.
We are a family of five and were very satisfied with the apartment. It was roomy, comfortable, and had all the facilities we needed (although no wi-fi). Staying in December, we appreciated the hot water and central heating (no controls in the apartment, but turns on automatically). The check-in was easy and Lois was quick to respond to our request for more linen and was accommodating in allowing us to leave our luggage on our day of departure - much appreciated as we had an evening train. We felt safe in the neighbourhood, and grocery shopping and Metro were less than five minutes walk away. We recommend both the apartment and Lois as host, and would happily stay again.
