Alison's home was the first Airbnb place I stayed in with my 2 sons. She and her brother welcomed us and seemed to be understanding for us being very tired as our flight from Canada streached from 2 to 3 days. Her home is arund 100m away from the beach and arund 70m from the convinience store, which is on the way to the beach. To do bigger shoping Alison drove with me (10-15 min) to Warkworth. They went with us for walks along the beach and we all shared some of our life stories during supper time. I am very greatful to Alison for helping my younger child with his problems with formating and emailing his homework to his teacher. She helped me emailing some documents to Australian visa office which took a big weight of my sholders.
About the Host, Alison
I first came to live in the Matakana area in 1980, so I consider myself a local. I spent the last decade in Northern California, operatng my own Travel consultancy business selling New Zealand & Australia, so I also have a depth of knowledge about the attractions of New Zealand.
I am involved in my local Church community, working part-time as the Receptionist at Mahurangi Presbyterian & facilitate a GriefShare support group. I enjoy making jewelry and sewing for my nine grandchildren, creating craft items and more recently I have started to paint. I take an interest in International Sailing, Rugby and Motor Sports (Bruce McLaren was a cousin and I grew up listening to how to drive quick, cornering & fuel consumption)
I returned to New Zealand after my husband died following an accident in 2009 and my brother Graeme, who came from Canada to work on refurbishing & renovating, now also lives in the house. He has spent forty years living in Canada. Is a keen Birder and is involved in the Omaha Spit Shorebird Protection of the NZ Dotterel.
Both my brother and I are friendly, easy going and like to get to know our guests and listen to their stories but I also want OmahaHouse to be a place of retreat where you can enjoy the quiet and the beach or take yourselves off to the many attractions in the area.
