Lucignano, one of the most outstanding examples of a fortified Tuscan mediaeval village. Casa Terrazza, is just a few steps away from restaurants and cafes.. Featuring a large terrace opening off main living area with views of the Val di Chiana.
Main terrace, great for alfresco dining, or that aperitivo before dinner! Terrazza principale, ideale per cenare all'aperto, o che aperitivo prima di cena!
Casa Terrazza is a 900 year old mediaeval terra tetto (an independent town house) that has just been completely restored using traditional materials and techniques. Much of the furniture is antique Tuscan pieces, other than things one wants to be modern - such as beds, bathrooms, kitchen, central airconditioning and heating!
Interaction with Guests
All guests will be met by a Lucignese local bilingual speaker (English and Italian). Apart from providing you with information about Lucignano and the surrounding attractions, she will also be you point of contact during your stay should any issues arise.
Lucignano, known as the "Pearl of the Val di Chiana" (Valley of Chiana) retains its complete mediaeval town plan. Viewed from the air, Lucignano is perfectly oval in shape. Casa Terrazza is located in the heart of centro storico, the historic centre. Lucignano is incredibly well located in central Tuscany, exploring all the major historic centres is very straightforward. Florence and Siena are less than an hour away by road, and Cortona and Arezzo are less than 1/2 and hour away. Whilst Lucignano is a very beautiful town, it is not overrun with tourists and for those who wish to try out their Italian language skills, you will find the locals patient and friendly.
Casa Terrazza is located in the outer ring in the town in via Roma. Everything is in walking distance (just metres away from the front door!), whether you want to get morning caffe and cornetti, or have a meal in its many restuarants, or get supplies from the supermercato.

I would like to thank you so much for sharing your home with us. There were many highlights during our trip to Italy but I have to say that Lucignano found a place in our hearts. This truly has to be the friendliest little town 'under the Tuscan sun'. It was easy to make ourselves at home during our 6 night stay in your apartment, from our many meals cooked in the well-appointed kitchen to beer and paninis (purchased from the friendly grocer) on the balcony. The locals made us very welcome from our daily visits and chats with Alessio and Sarah at Caffe del Borgo, Ezio at Snoopy Gelataria, Crina and Ezio at Babyland Lucignano, Andrea and Marguerite from Enoteca Merenda Toscana and Gioielleria Etruria and of course our friendly grocer whose name I failed to get. I cannot overstate the appeal of this medieval village. It is so centrally located for day trips but we were always very happy to come home to this peaceful little haven! We will be telling everyone about Lucignano and your apartment. Thanks again for the wonderful memories. Thank you also to Lolita who was very helpful!
If you are considering spending some time in Tuscany then do yourself a favour and stay at Casa Terrazza in Lucignano. What a perfect place to stay and what a perfect village to use as your base to explore this wonderful region of Italy. Casa Terrazza is a dream accommodation for up to 7 people, with a smaller apartment underneath as an addition or alternative. Stuart has renovated and equipped the terrace to a remarkable level with a wonderful lounge and dining area, the most fantastic terrace to enjoy both the mornings, afternoons and meals in between. The kitchen is extremely functional with a wonderful stove and loads of crockery and cutlery whilst the bedrooms and bathrooms are also a dream. Best of all is a laundry area so that clean clothes become a reality again!
Lucignano itself was an exceptional place to experience. It is a small village in Central Tuscany but also close enough to Umbria that day trips to the surrounding towns and villages are easily made. The village itself has free and safe parking outside the walls. The people are welcoming and delightful with a range of restaurants and shops that will amaze you. My daily trips to the supermarket and gelataria were something to be savoured and so much fun with an italian lesson thrown in and delivered with such patience. Ensio from Snoopy - the local gelataria was fantastic and a great source of local information but
most importantly kept us in supply of the best gelato in the region. We had some remarkable meals in the local restaurants and by the end of our week were greeted with great warmth.
Stuart is certainly a wonderful host who communicated swiftly by email with any of our queries. We were met by Lolita at the property who proved to be extremely helpful throughout our stay and such a delightful person.
I have spent some time since leaving Lucignano planning ways I can return and stay at Cassa Terrazza. It is certainly bella and has left my family and me with such incredible memories.
I had an Enchanted April at Casa Terrazza. The property is a wonderful base to use when exploring Tuscany. But it's more than that, Lucignano is a delightful surprise. When you see it from the approach road it appears on top of the hill like the mythical Brigadoon. Upon approach you find an active close community living a modern life in ancient surroundings.
The house is a gorgeous remodel - leaving elements of the old like exposed brick and beamed ceilings and adding modern plumbing, electricity, and excellent internet. It is also very well fitted with everything one needs to be comfortable like dinnerware for 12 and lots of pots and pans.
Friends and family came to stay during the month I spent at Casa Terrazza. They all really liked the house. One person said it was a wonderful place to get away from the crowds in other hill towns. Lucignano also has good restaurants, banks and good grocery stores so you might be tempted to never leave. My teenage grandchildren were happy to be have a little freedom in a 'safe' town - especially to get gelato at Snoopy's.
I highly recommend the house and the hosts. Stuart and Catherine were very helpful in orienting me to the house and location. When they're absent, their property manager also makes things easy.
Book early - this is going to be a popular property.

I am a designer based in Sydney, Australia who has just completed the extensive restoration and furnishing of this beautiful property in Lucignano, which is now available for holiday rental.
Lucignano is a very friendly town of about 1000 inhabitants situated in central Tuscany with easy access to many of the attractions of the region. I am sure you will find Lucignano as enchanting as my wife, Catherine and I have found it.
We also have a beach holiday house call Panorama, located in a charming and remote village in northern New South Wales called Hat Head. Panorama is located in bushland high on Connors Ridge on the edge of Hat Head National Park. It has extensive ocean views and is an ideal place to get away from it all and to have a true Australian beach house experience.
(web search "Panorama, Hat Head" + "Inform Projects" and "Lucignano" for more information)
I look forward to hearing from you.
