our comfy and super well-located apartment will make your stay enjoyable. Just 1 block from the sea and only 5 mins to the city center, with easy access to all local transport.
Nice, Spacious and Sunny apartment in a great location, Barrio Sur, just 1 block from the seaside.
On the upper floor, one big spacious bedroom with a double bed, and a smaller room with a single bed, both with AC and big windows overlooking the patio (both with black out curtains in case it's too sunny in the morning time). Brand new beds and mattresses, which is essential after a long day sightseeing. Clean sheets and towels are provided. Both rooms have wardrobes and dressers so you don't have to keep your clothes inside your backpack :)
The bathroom has a shower and washing machine, and hot water all day long.
On the ground floor, big living area with a sofa bed. Integrated kitchen with a real oven and stove, and a big fridge and freezer.
It also has a private patio which provides loads of sunlight, with comfy beach chairs to sunbathe and table to have a lovely brunch al fresco. There's loads of plants and clothesline to hang everything under the sun.
The house has air conditioning in every room, Internet with wifi, and all appliances and furniture to have a great stay, including oven, stove, juicer, microwave, freezer, fridge, toaster, iron, coffeemaker, and all cooking utensils so you can prepare your own meals, hairdryer, washing machine, etc. There´s deliberately no TV but we do have a nice collection of DVDs and vinyls
Food is not included but tea and instant coffee are available at any time of day, and there's space in the cupboard and fridge for our guests' stuff.
It’s located in very quiet building in the downtown area, 1 block from the sea (great for sunset watching). It’s close to universities, museums, cinemas, just minutes from the Old City, surrounded by restaurants, theaters, street markets, drugstores, laundromats, stores, etc.
Easy transportation to and from anywhere (bus tickets are 1 dollar). Parking at the door is free.
The apartment is cleaned once a week (no cost) and the towels/sheets/linens will be changed. Extra cleaning service can be arranged for a small fee.
I’ve been hosting for over 10 years now and I truly enjoy it. I will be happy to give you loads of tips for your stay, recommendations on events, shows, football games, places to eat, etc. You’ll also have a map, a local mobile phone and a guide for you on arrival.
We have AC in all rooms, we use it a lot in summer and winter. But we want to keep our house as energy-efficient as possible, so we would like you to turn it on only when you're there. We will check the meter on your arrival, and then again when you leave. If you turn the AC off when you're not in the room, there won't be any problem.

Interaction with Guests
as much as they wish
Barrio Sur is super unique, you can find plenty of cultural stuff to do (Candombe every day), places to dance tango, and very friendly neighbours. It's one of the few places in Montevideo where children still play football in the street. Plus, it's just metres from the sea!
Barrio Sur has been through a lot of change lately! Famous for being the cradle of Candombe, our national music, it used to have a really bad rep until around 5 years ago where it became the new up-and-coming area for young people to live. It's full of life, charm, and things to do, but it keeps the "old neighborhood" vibe still. Meaning, I know all my neighbors by name :)
loads of buses to go anywhere. Not that you need them, it's close to everything. And you can always get a bike for free :)
Other Things to Note
We have two very well behaved (actually trained!) pups who will have as much contact with you as you feel confortable with. They are not allowed in the rooms nor the kitchen.
Sharing is caring
exercise common sense. If in doubt, ask yourself how you would act if it were your house.
Don't invite people over without asking first.
and don't smoke inside
Electricity Charges: be Eco-friendly!
We charge for too much electricity use at cost to encourage our guests to use the air conditioning and electricity responsibly. We normally use between $1 US to $3US per day in summer, and most of our guests do the same. Upon check in and check out an electric reading is taken. If you have used too much, the cost of 5.5 pesos per each extra kW will then be charged and paid at check-out in Uruguayan Pesos. We would like our guests to be energy conscious and responsible for their energy use. We have LED lights and energy efficient appliances. The less you use, the better for the environment and your pocket!
I had a wonderful time with Lucia and Manuel in Montevideo. They treated me like family, made me feel at home, and went out of their way to help me make the most of my visit - even helping me book transportation to/from Uruguay weeks before my arrival! I loved their apartment, the dogs, and the location was very convenient. I would highly recommend them to future guests!
Lucia and Manuel were some of the best hosts I've had on AirBnB to date. Warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly hospitable they worked with me weeks before my arrival to ensure I was comfortable settling into Montevideo on my own. As a bilingual traveler, it was fun communicating with them, hanging out at the house, and getting to know their way of life. I highly recommend them to future guests!
Lucia & Manuel are an amazingly nice couple. They made me feel welcome, and helped me with everything they could. Lucia even went with me to the Antel store so I could buy a local sim. There is a nice feeling of sharing and calm. Their dogs are also quiet and polite despite being still very young. I highly recommend staying with them!
I really enjoyed my staying in Lucia's apartment. Lucia is a wonderful host and very nice, friendly person! She has helped me a lot with giving ideas where to go and what to do in Montevideo. The apartment is really lovely and clean, the location is perfect, close to the downtown, you can find everything within a walking distance. I also made friendship with her cute puppies :) I would highly recommend her place for staying and spending some unforgettable pleasant time in Montevideo!
i was warmly welcomed at Lucia&Manu's place and it felt like 'coming home'. They were very helpful and giving me lots of tips & tricks around Montevideo. The room was exactly as on the picture. She left me lots of info material about the city and also gave me a phone with a local number so that people could call me on the phone instead of my international one! Living with Lucia&Manu was very easy and i felt at ease. I would absolutely loved to stay at this place and would always go back there if i return to MTV.
Thanks a lot Lucia & Manu for making me feel home!
Lucia was a very good hostes. The apartment was very clean and organized, and in a very good location. We had a wonderful trip.

I like simple things in life: walking my dog along the seashore, having lunch with my family, meeting new people, having a laugh with my friends or cozying up with a book in front of the fireplace... best things in life are free.
I'm a sociable person who likes talking to anyone about anything, drinking wine in winter and beer in summer, meeting new people, movies, backpacking/camping trips, cooking vegan food to nonvegan people, and my job.
I'm originally from Uruguay (and yeah, the u r gay joke is kinda tiring now!), a most beautiful country with lovely people. When I turned 23 I decided to do what I always wanted to do: travelling around the world. I lived in Ireland for over three years, exploring Europe with friends and having the time of my life with the Dublin gang. I started a LONG backpacking trip at the beginning of 2009 and ended up living in China for over a year, trying my best to learn mandarin and teaching lovely kids. I was LOVING China, the food, the smells, the smiles, the Tai CHi, their crazy culture... but decided to take a break and settle down for a while in my home country, so here I am.
Right now I'm all about yoga, eco-building, recycling, downsizing, composting, suistainability, organic farming, permaculture, and a long etc. My dream is to some day have my own organic farm :)
In the meantime I'm working as a language teacher in Montevideo, and since I miss travelling a little bit I decided to rent my spare room to travellers :)
