Leuven is such a treasure! You'll love the views from the living room and balcony! St. Peter's Church is always breathtaking, but there is so much more!
From the balcony or strolling down the street you'll see musicians, summer ballroom dancing in the bike storage under the bus station (just below the balcony!), free concerts, festive decorations, carnivals and more!
And the location couldn't be better. You're literally in the very heart of Leuven, close to the best restaurants, shopping and attractions. We'll have a list of our favorite restaurants at the apartment, but you can't go wrong at any of the great spots close by. Muntstraat (the restaurant street) is lined with some of the best restaurants in Leuven, and the Oude Market is full of fun bars and great food!
Don't miss the Friday and Saturday market's where you can find everything from fresh veggies to the best cuts of meat to local arts and crafts.
Getting Around Leuven
This location could not be more convenient. The train station is just at the end of Bondgenotenlaan (about 8 city blocks) and the Leuven central bus station is right outside the apartment building entrance. When I travel with suitcases, I take a bus to and from the train station (2 Euro each way).
Leuven's train station is one of the busiest in Belgium and you can easily get a train to other Belgium cities or to nearby Germany, Netherlands, and France.
The airport is one quick train stop away, a 13 minute train ride.
You can catch a bus from the front of the apartment or head to the train/bus station and take a bus virtually anywhere you would like to go. I exclusively use the bus and train system when I am there.
If you are driving, there is a large underground parking garage two blocks from the apartment. it is in the Beetle Square. Drive carefully and watch out for bikes!
Other Things to Note
There is a linen fee of 50 Euro/week or you may bring your own sheets and towels. If you use your own linens you will need queen sheets for both the bed and the pull out sofa. If you use out linens you will be provided with two sets of sheets and 6 towels. There is a laundromat near by.
There are coffee filters and some basic condiments available. (Olive oil, salt, pepper, vinegar, etc.). There are markets close by for food shopping and essentials.
There are some small shampoo, conditioner and lotions bottles available.
Please be respectful of the neighbors (there is one apartment on each of the 5 floors) and keep noise to a respectful level.
No Smoking. There will be a $200 fine for any signs of guests smoking in the apartment.
Please leave everything as you found it so it will be ready for our next visit, as well.
Open Space: View of opposite side of kitchen and living room, kitchen table, desk, and island with cook-top.
I had the pleasure of staying in Vicki's flat in Leuven for one week in July and have only superlatives to say about both the flat and Vicki!
First, regarding the apartment, its location is perfect, right in the very centre of Leuven on the De Somerplein. Being on the fifth floor of the building, the flat has spectacular views from the two balconies: in front, there is a large balcony overlooking the square and across the square one looks across to the magnificent St. Pieters church and the Grote Markt and the city hall; in the back of the apartment is a small balcony off the bedroom with another great view, including the M-museum, the university library and the St. Michel's church.
The flat has a large front room, a combined living room (with comfortable sofa and tv), dining space and kitchen. In the back is a very good sized bedroom with a very confortable bed. Between the two main rooms is the bathroom with a seperate toilet chamber with sink and an outstanding shower (all, again, very spacious). The description of the flat in the write-up was all very accurate and yet I thought the place was overall even better than I had anticipated.
With regard to Vicki, she was really great. My travel plans had me arriving in Leuven at a time when, for very specific and unusual reasons, Vicki's usual representative in Leuven would not be available to help out with the key-hand-off and such. Vicki went to considerable lengths to make arrangements so that I could nonetheless stay in her place when I would be in Leuven. She was prompt in her responses, extremely generous with her time in working out practical details and answering questions, and took a genuine interest in making sure all would be perfect for my stay.
I used to live in Leuven, have still many friends there, and so visit the city regularly. In the future, I would be delighted to stay again in Vicki's place — both she and the flat were great!
Vicki makes it very easy to visit Leuven from anywhere in the world. The apartment has splendid views and is conveniently located. The apartment is accurately described in the post. I have stayed here twice and would visit again, given the opportunity.
This is a bright, nicely furnished and well equipped apartment that is centrally located in Leuven. We were glad we were able to stay here, and would stay here again. Vicki has a local person (her adult daughter) who welcomes you and helps you get settled; if you need any help, the response is quick. It is a comfortable, home-like place that works for either a short or longer stay (I stayed six weeks and felt at home). Recommended.
This is apartment was perfect for our trip to Leuven, and the location could not be any better. You are a short walk from the train station, near a bus station and right in the center of town. You have restaurants, cafes, and bars in every direction; along with grocery stores and markets for anything you might need. The amenities of the apartment were great, especially the air conditioning for some of those summer heat waves. The views are absolutely incredible, we felt like we were living in a postcard. The terrace was definitely the favorite hang out spot for morning coffee. Vicki and her daughter Rachael made everything super easy for our stay. They are both very friendly, answered all our questions/concerns and made our vacation very enjoyable.
Vicki's apartment is in a fantastic location, a short walk from anything you would want to see, eat or drink. The apartment is very clean, with tons of amenities, and the most wonderful view (check out the pictures provided by Vicki). My friends and I enjoyed cooking dinners and drinking wine while looking out onto the main plaza in Leuven.
This is a lovely apartment in the perfect spot. The views are gorgeous (there's another lovely one on the back too!) and you are right in the centre of Leuven. The terrace will be lovely in summer! The choice of bars and restaurants on the doorstep is amazing. There are lovely markets on Friday and Saturday and plenty of shops and places to enjoy a coffee! Vicki and her daughter Rachael made this a very smooth experience and helped with restaurant recommendations and local info.
About the Host, Vicki
Welcome to our wonderful Leuven apartment! We travel to Belgium often on business and to visit family, but when we are home in the US the apartment is vacant. AirBnB is a great way to share this gem with others traveling to Leuven for business or pleasure.
Enjoy! I hope you find the apartment and the area as perfect as I do!
