We are at the southern tip of the world-famous Big Sur Coast, with Carmel-by-the-Sea about three hours to the north along Highway one.
The StudioLoft is surrounded by trees in a quiet residential neighborhood with a newly renovated swimming pool, slide, and travertine patio. There is a grass lined seasonal creek in the rear of the property under sycamore and pepper trees.
When you arrive you will be greeted with a complimentary bottle of chardonnay or cold beer in the fridge. We provide plenty of food for your breakfast (often including homemade coffee cake) and you can "french press" freshly ground SLO-roasted coffee in the morning to start your day off right!
The StudioLoft has been recently renovated providing you and your guests all the amenities you may need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The high ceiling and loft provide a feeling of spaciousness; our guests enjoy the kitchenette, bar, dining area, flat screen satellite TV, and beautifully tuned piano without ever feeling "cramped".
The kitchenette (see photos) includes a 2-burner gas stove, mini fridge, counter-top convection oven, and a microwave. It is well stocked with everything you need to prepare a meal including dishes, glassware, silverware, pots and pans, bowls, spices and cooking utensils. Enjoy dining indoors or outdoors on the beautiful stone patio. Seating for 4-6 (++). The outdoor propane grill is great for pool-side, summer-time, or any-time BBQ's.
The loft above (w/ ladder access) sleeps 4 guests in 2 queen/double -size beds (each with 4" memory foam), and down below the couch sleeps 2 more comfortably and converts to a queen-size bed (also with 4" memory foam, see photos).
***We also have a very comfortable queen-sized floor pad with linen, pillows, comforters, and additional towels, all available for your extra guests and/or children.
The newly redesigned and upgraded bathroom, shower & laundry room are accessed through a doorway for your private use. (We sometimes share the laundry, accessed by an outer locked door for your privacy.) Our travertine stone patio winds around the pool and opens out through a gated lawn-banked seasonal creek. All outdoor area is available to you during your stay. Our friendly, family golden retriever "Sadie" may want to play with you, but just close the blinds. She'll get the hint.
Airbnb rate does not yet include 11% San Luis Obispo Bed and new County Tourism Tax. We ask that you pay the tax upon arrival. Thank you for your compliance with this new San Luis Obispo City and County ordinance.
The SLOStudioLoft is easily accessed through the redwood gate on the right side of the residence driveway. Our guests enjoy the private sun-warmed pool & slide in the summer (May-September), and also love sunbathing on the secluded patio lounge furniture throughout the year. The gated and fenced seasonal creek-side lawn area is a safe place for your non-barking dog to roam if you choose to bring along your pup. Laundry facilities available for a small fee; please be conscious of our SLO water shortage and California drought. We are available to make your stay as comfortable as possible; please let us know in advance if you have any special needs or requests.
Interaction with Guests
We want you to feel as though you belong right at home here in the SLOStudioLoft. Therefore we will message you easy check-in instructions. Please review carefully prior to your arrival! Your privacy is important to us during your stay, although we are always available if you need anything. We will provide you with a "pre-visit" email list of "what-to-do" and "where-to-go" in SLO that may be helpful in planning your activities and making reservations. When you arrive you'll find a "Concierge Binder" describing some of our favorite Bars, Beaches, Restaurants, Galleries and Wineries, and Trips and Trails, as a resource for your convenience during your stay, including brochures to review.
Our quiet neighborhood is on a cul-de-sac, therefore minimal car traffic is rarely heard. In the mornings you can hear the birds singing in the trees surrounding the property. Our neighbors are out walking their pets at all hours, and there is never a concern for safety. This is an exceptionally quiet, secluded, upscale residential neighborhood including young families with children, as well as older, retired couples who built their own homes 30+ years ago.
We're near Southwood Drive and Johnson Avenue. Uber came to town recently and our guests love the local safe and friendly drivers for quick trips downtown for dinner or "bar-hopping."
Our local city bus transit is a 4 minute walk 3 blocks to the corner #1 Bus Stop- SLO City Transit, which takes you to the Downtown City Center, approximately a 10 minute bus-ride. Bus transfers are available to the Amtrak Station, all over SLO, Cal Poly, and San Luis Obispo County, including Hearst Castle if desired. SLO Airport is a 7 minute Cab/Uber ride.

Other Things to Note
NOTE: SLO 11% Bed and County Tourism Tax is not yet collected by Airbnb for San Luis Obispo. Therefore we will collect the tax (USD) upon your arrival, avoiding additional fees due to Airbnb.
We have recently spent a lot of love-filled energy and time remodeling and renovating our home to improve the comfort and beauty we have come to enjoy. After booking we will send you an email including a Prop. Agreement for your review and signature upon your arrival. We are happy to include this in the listing message thread prior to your booking if you are interested; there isn't a way to attach it to the listing at this time with Airbnb. If, after reading the agreement, you decide that you do NOT want to agree to the terms of rental, contact us immediately to terminate the lease. No Problem. We will refund 100%.
We hope you will "holiday" here in SLO for a day or more so that you too can appreciate some of the beauty that surrounds us here on the Central Coast. Beaches, hiking trails, biking trails, downtown boutique shopping, concerts in the plaza, wine-tasting, music festivals, film festivals, jazz festivals, and much more are only minutes away! Our rates are lower in the winter, and as the summer sun warms our new pool & slide we hope you'll enjoy using it during your stay! So come and swim in front of your secluded StudioLoft during the warm summer months. We will provide simple instructions on removing the Solar Blanket before swimming. Have fun, but please, keep your pets out of the pool for their safety. And remember- NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY, unless of course you are one!
We do NOT allow smokers inside our home, and greatly appreciate your compliance with this request (only on grassy area, NOT patio). General courtesy is the "unwritten rule," as is pretty much true for anytime our lives impact others. Our neighbors welcome our Airbnb international and USA guests, as you are respectful of their privacy and property, and honor the rules and safety requirements stated in the SLOStudioLoft Property Agreement. Thanks! Ryan & Family
We would love to meet your pup, if you decide to bring her along with you, but please keep pets off of the furniture. *There is a one-time $25 cleaning fee for pets. When booking, please include your pet as an extra guest as well ($15/night) or pay upon arrival to avoid additional taxable Airbnb fees (honor system; we trust you).
The loft and space is beautiful. Carla was our contact for the trip and was very helpful. The space is more for families, as it is in a quiet neighborhood with noise ordinance. If I had known I would have picked a different space for my group of girls. The space is listed as entire home, but the studio loft is attached to house where family lives. Carla and family do a good job at giving you privacy. Carla also let my friend bring her dog last minute who had a lot of fun hanging out with her dogs by the pool! Thank you!
Thank you Sarah for your kind review! Glad you all felt like you had a lot of privacy. San Luis Obispo now has a new HomeStay Ordinance in affect which includes (1) Homestay must be attached to permanent residence, it can NOT be a separate dwelling away from the main house, and, (2) a strict noise policy in place to prevent guests from possibly disrespecting the neighbors. Being a responsible Airbnb Guest includes consideration of others (surrounding neighbors); it is just the polite thing to do wherever you are. Thoughtfulness allows Hosts to welcome you, and make you feel as though you "belong anywhere." We know our listing and many photos accurately describe the neighborhood, as well as our property and StudioLoft. Airbnb has three different options for hosts to list their property: Entire home/Apartment, Shared Room, or Private Room. Studios and Lofts fall into the category of "Entire home/Apartment." We are very sorry if you felt in any way disappointed by a misinterpretation of our listing. Thank you for your comments and for complying with the "no loud parties outdoors after 10 PM" request; our neighbors thank you too;-) Ryan and family
Very good- breakfast supplies were at the loft upon arrival
Carla was very helpful during our stay- San Luis Obispo is stunning
One of the best places to stay. Carla/Ryan knows how to host. The accommodation was beautiful, kids loved the loft, piano, board games. Unfortunately we were staying only overnight and could'nt enjoy the pool and the slide. Place was clean and cozy. Instructions for various things were placed at the right places. Would love to come back and enjoy the slide and the pool.
The apartment is lovely, with nice additional touches, fresh organic milk, coffee, spring water. Overall a very nice stay.
This has been our best airbnb experience to date! Our host was super accommodating and was very communicative throughout our stay. The host is listed as Ryan (and family) and I believe "and family" refers to Carla, his mom, because she was our primary contact throughout our trip. To begin, our group consisted of my husband, myself, and another couple, which at the last minute, became the four of us AND our two kids (due to babysitter cancellation). Prior to arrival, we received an email with several attachments including things to do both in SLO and on the way there from both directions, which was awesome. She also sent is her cell phone number so we could keep touch via text. The day before our trip, after our babysitter cancelled, we notified our hosts right away and they were nice enough to accommodate; just let us know we could pay the extra guest fee via airbnb or in cash upon arrival. I had also asked about early check in, which also, Carla was willing to accommodate, despite having house guests immediately prior to our stay. After back and firths via text, she notified us we would be able to check in about an hourish early, which was perfect for us. Upon arrival, we walked into our studio for the weekend and it was set up just as pictured. There was even beer in the fridge and breakfast for the next morning on the counter, including local organic eggs, freshly squeezed oj, AND locally sourced coffee complete with a French press (which we enjoyed before departure and was all delicious). The pool was warm, as described, and everything was labels for our convenience. Carla even came out to check on us a few times to make sure we didn't need anything. She even prepared some ice for us for our cooler (because she knew we would be doing some camping after our stay with her). If we are in SLO, we will definitely be looking to stay here again. Ryan/Carla's loft is highly recommended :)
Carla was a very attentive host who went to extra lengths to make sure we had everything we needed. The neighborhood was very quiet and nice and we all loved the pool! That being said, I think this listing is best suited for families because there is a very strict noise ordinance in the neighborhood. Had I known that beforehand, I would have chosen a different property for the Bachelorette party I was hosting.
We had a great experience at the SLOStudioLoft. The neighborhood was beautiful and the house was tastefully furnished. Only a short drive away to downtown.
Carla welcomed us as we arrived and even Sadie (the dog) came out to say hi.
The house is just as described. Our family of 4 felt very comfortable and really at home. The pool was nice and we even had a chance to grill outside.
The kitchen was stocked with all basic condiments, coffee, tea, oatmeal, pancake mix, eggs and everything you could need to have breakfast and cook a nice dinner.
We'll definitely try to stay there again if we return to SLO.
About the Host, Ryan (And Family)
I am a recent Cinematography Grad of SFSU and plan on traveling throughout the US and possibly Europe, utilizing Airbnb when possible, while developing my film career. Our permanent address is SLO where my sister and I were born and grew up. My mom lives in our family home with our Golden, Sadie, and cat, and she enjoys traveling abroad. We offer our guest "Studio Loft," which was designed as a private studio apartment with kitchen and bathroom, and includes all the amenities you'll need to assure your visit to SLO is a memorable one. Hopefully, you too will discover why San Luis Obispo is called the "Happiest Place in America."
We've put together a list of our favorite things to do for all ages and abilities, from "the Best Wineries for locally grown Cabernet, Pinot, Zins, and Chardonnay," to various hiking trails, beaches, state parks, places and events you'll want to see, and our favorite restaurants, bars, music, and much more. All of the information you might need is available to you on the iMac (including a nice selection of music on iTunes). Upon your arrival, we invite you to enjoy a complimentary bottle of wine or a few beers, and in the morning you'll start your day with breakfast provided for you in the fridge, including delicious SLO brewed coffee. If my mom's around, she'll make sure your stay is great. So if I miss you when you come to town, enjoy yourselves and "We'll leave the light on for you."
