The Space

Perfect for couples, colleagues, or solo adventures, this entire 2BR flat with strong, reliable WiFi is available for your enjoyment while here in Chicago.

The unit is full of light and features a classic exposed brick look. It is on the border of Wicker Park and Ukrainian Village within 10-15 minutes walking distance to three Blue Line stops (Western, Damen, Division). The Division station is just three stops from downtown, and after a 10 minute train ride you can be enjoying the sights and sounds of Chicago's famous "Loop". You can also transfer to other Chicago train lines downtown and see the rest of the city easily. Bus line is just one block away from the unit, and you can track the bus times via internet so you know when a bus will be arriving. Transport map is included.

The local area has many restaurants, bars, clubs shopping and plenty of charm. Close to grocery stores also. The residence is in walking distance to historic Wicker Park and Humblodt Park, and there are many famous Ukrainian-American cathedrals nearby. Walk 15 minutes to Bucktown and enjoy some boutique shopping and dining, or simply walk 5 minutes down Division avenue and do the same.

Distances to other Chicago hot-spots, available via public transport or car/taxi: 3.7 Miles to the "Magnificent Mile" shopping district & Navy Pier. 4.8 Miles to Wrigley Field. 4.0 Miles to the Sears Tower. 3.2 Miles to Lincoln Park.

Front BR has closet, small dresser, and queen bed. Rear BR includes double bed, ceiling fan, 50-inch HDTV with DirecTV cable including international sports package and movie channels along with DVD player and WiFi access. There is a dresser for your clothes as well. APT comes complete with city map, transport map, Chicago tour guide book and set of keys.

Full kitchen and dining area with pots/pans/silverware/glassware etc. Front living room has comfy couch and 55" HDTV with DirecTV cable package and DVR. Hundreds of books for readers to sort through - feel free to exchange a paperback if you see something you'd like to take with you!

This is an old building, which means you will hear creaks and cracks when you walk on the old hardwood floors, and you'll see scrapes and scraps here and there. In my opinion this adds to the charm and part of the reason I live here and hosted so many wonderful guests. The unit is on the 3rd floor, and there is no elevator, so expect a little exercise while climbing the stairs.

This is a true international traveler's pad, guest list includes visitors from Australia, South Africa, Canada, Austria, Germany, The Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Switzerland, UK, and all over the USA. You will be supplied with towels and fresh soaps like you would be in a traveler's hostel or small hotel. I'm an experienced off-location host who has traveled the world and loves to help and host fellow travelers. I am particular about hosting reliable, interesting and safe, law-abiding guests. Interaction with Guests

I'm hands-on when it comes to helping you navigate your way here, but completely hands-off once you arrive and get settled. The place is all yours.

The Neighborhood

This little enclave here on the border of Ukrainian Village & Wicker Park is Chicago's best kept secret, in my opinion. You've got the up-and-coming Division & Damen area right outside your door, and booming Wicker Park just a few blocks away. Then you have Ukrainian Village, which has a unique charm. You're missing out if you don't walk through the neighborhood to see the beautiful St. Nicholas Cathedral - a structure like that in a residential neighborhood is stunning and it's a great representation of all of Chicago's hidden gems.

Getting around

Three blue line stops within 12 minutes walk, plus the 70 and 49 bus right outside the front door. Cabs are plentiful on Division. Overall we have exceptional public transport available 24 hours per day.

Other Things to Note

Take the 4-block walk down Oakley to see St. Nicholas Cathedral, it's worth the stroll! Do Division all the way down to Ashland, and make sure to hit all the action by the Damen Blue Line stop.

  • The flat is great (cool, warm, clean), located in a very nice neighbourhood, with the Division street far enough to enjoy the peace, but close enough to grab a beer and listen to some real Chicago blues. Free parking on the street was a nice surprise, too. Sam was a great host, very communicative, always willing to help, answer all my questions and doubts. It was my first time using Airbnb and definitely, it encouraged me to choose this kind of traveling next time. Overall, it was a pleasure for me and my sisters to by Sam's guests, thank you!:)

  • We had a wonderful stay at Sam's place. Though we only stayed a single night and didn't spend much time time there, the apartment was very clean, quiet, and comfortable.

Sam was also terrific to correspond with. He responded promptly and went out of his way to make sure we got a key and all the details about how to enter the building.

  • I found Sam's Chicago Traveler's pad when looking for a comfortable spot for me and my late 30s girlfriends to have a mom's escape weekend in Chicago. Having lived together in our early 20s we wanted a casual place with a good couch for catching up between our explorations of Bucktown and Wicker Park.

His apartment is clean and simple with Chicago charm. It's a third story walk up with good light. It is within walking or biking distance of Bucktown/lots of fun stuff but it's not in the heart of the activity. We thought this was nice but others might want something closer to stuff. For example, our massage appointments were a 20min walk away. Having gotten a late start and unable to find a taxi we rented Divvy bikes one block from the apartment and biked to the appointment. Divvy has so many kiosks that there was another one right next to our spa. It was a fun and efficient solution. Otherwise we road the blue line to/from Damen or caught taxi.

Sam is kind host. He wants the renter to be a match for the apartment so he is very clear with what he is offering and expectations and is quick responding to emails. Sam provides coffee, tea, juice soaps and clean towels and sheets. He was very accommodating with check in and out. We were able to leave our bags at 11am and come back at 2pm to pick them up on way to airport.

If you want a hotel experience, this is not the place for your. Look at the more high-end places. If you want all your basic needs met (couch/tv/internet, kitchen, bed, bath) and you want to explore the neighborhoods. This is a great spot and Sam is a wonderful host and captivating person.

  • Our stay at Sam's place was absolutely perfect. The apartment is lovely and Sam went above and beyond to make us feel like we were at a hotel. It was the little extras that really made us feel right at home. Thanks Sam! If we are in Chicago again we will definitely get in touch and try to stay again!
