Description

The Space

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION FIRST. I TRIED TO ANSWER AS MANY QUESTIONS AS POSSIBLE HERE.

The apt. is spacious, bright and clean, and lovingly renovated in a modern style with classic details. The subway (G-line) is only 2 min. away and connects to many major lines that quickly bring you to Manhattan or other areas in Brooklyn or Queens.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
Manhattan and other areas in Brooklyn and Queens are easy to reach by subway, bus or bicycle.
The apartment is located a short block (2 minute walk) from the G -line (Bedford - Nostrand Ave. Metro Station) away, which takes you in 20 minutes to Union Square in Manhattan via connection to the L-line, and in 30 Min. connecting to the A-line to the Chelsea Market and the West Village. The G line brings you in 10 min. directly to Williamsburg with its vibrant nightlife, bars, restaurants and shops, the Williamsburg Flea Market and Smorgasburg. You can reach Midtown and the MoMA e.g. in about 30 minutes by subway via the G and the M or E line.
To get to the Barkley Center / Atlantic Mall and the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) it takes about 15 minutes.

The B48 bus takes you directly in about 15 min. to beautiful Prospect Park, a park bigger than Central Park, and near the Brooklyn Museum and the Botanical Garden.
Brooklyn is great to explore by bike. A new Citi Bike Station is right outside the front door. There Bicycles can be rented on a daily basis for only $10.
I'm happy to give information on questions about transportation etc. A metro and bus schedule is available in your room.
There is also ample free parking in the street if desired.

THE APARTMENT:
The apartment is on a 2nd floor (3rd floor in the US) walk-up in a classic Brooklyn brownstone. It has been lovingly renovated and furnished. Many of the original details are still intact and give the apartment a special charm. The street is very quiet with the bedroom to the rear. Perfect to relax and unwind after a busy day in the city.
The Appt. is comfortably warm in the winter and cooled with air conditioning on hot days, if desired, in the summer.
The guest bedroom has a queen size bed with a very comfortable mattress and a closet. Privacy is guaranteed. It can also be locked from the inside if you want.

The kitchen is available for your use. There is a bar where you can have your breakfast in the morning. You're welcome to help yourself with condiments. For everything else please make your own arrangements. A supermarket is 5 min. away. You can use the fridge for your groceries.
Bathroom has a tub/shower, sink, toilet.
- fresh towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash
- hair dryer, curling iron and straightening iron
- Fresh linens
- Dining room can be shared, if you make your own food or order from one of the many restaurants that deliver. Let me know if you want to use the dining room - I sometimes use it for my work.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD:
BedSty (Bedford Stuyvesant) is a lively multicultural neighborhood with many amenities, restaurants, bars and grocery stores. It is just one of the coolest neighborhoods in New York right now! It shows a real, authentic New York and it's fun to explore it! Just around the corner there are some beautiful blocks of beautiful old classic brownstone buildings that are so typical of Brooklyn. The adjoining BedSty, Clinton Hill, Fort Greene neighborhoods can be easily explored walking or by bike. In the south-east you reach the historic Stuyvesant Heights, where the first Dutch settlers settled mid-17th century. Many blocks are landmarked. Across the street to the west lies Clinton Hill, home of the prestigious Pratt Institute, a renown design and art school, where you will encounter a community of creative professionals, students and academics, and a growing number of good restaurants and small boutiques. Many streets are lined with trees and beautiful old town houses or mansions that were once inhabited by families like the Vanderbilts.
We have excellent food here! New ambitious restaurants open up around on a regular basis. My apartment is only a few blocks from the "Restaurant Row" located on Bedford Avenue, so that Do or Dine, Stone Fruit, Fancy Nancy, Dough or Black Swan are only a short walk away. Various restaurants offer a good breakfast or brunch on weekends. Just steps away you find good pastries (also gluten free and vegan) and a great cappuccino or espresso.
Laundromats are around the corner.

Bicycles:
Across the street is a new Citibike bike sharing station, where you can rent a bike for the day for only $10 to explore the area! It is a short bike ride to Fort Greene and Williamsburg and only 20 min. to Prospect Park. You can ride across the Williamsburg Bridge to the Lower East Side in Manhattan by bike in 30 min. and enjoy the wide range of restaurants and bars this lively area has to offer.

TRANSPORTATION FROM THE AIRPORT:
From JFK, you can take a taxi to the apartment, it will cost about $45.00 (tip 15-20% is extra) and takes about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. Please tell the driver to take Atlantic Avenue. (Please only take yellow or green taxis, which are at the airport at the taxi stand and have an official taxi sign and emblem! Otherwise the drive can be very expensive.) Or you can take the JFK Airtrain with connection to the A line (blue) to Nostrand Avenue. When you come out of the station, you will find yourself on Nostrand Avenue and Fulton Street. From there you walk north on Nostrand Avenue (against the traffic), about 12 blocks (15 minutes). Or, if you'd rather walk less take the metro until Hoyt Schermerhorn and switch to the G line (green) towards Queens (overpass take the other track, underground towards Queens Court Square) The stop is Bedford-Nostrand. From there it's a block on foot. Take the Nostrand Avenue exit and the stairs to the left, walk straight ahead on Nostrand against the traffic to the next corner, turn right. Overall, it takes about 1hr. by public transport.
From Newark it is best to take a taxi, even though it may cost $100 +. By public transport it can otherwise take a long time. There is a train to Penn Station or a bus to the Port Authority in Manhattan. From there you can take the subway to the apartment.
From LaGuardia, it costs about $35.00 for a taxi and takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Unfortunately there is no alternative public transport.
I would be very happy to welcome you as my guest and introduce you to New York and Brooklyn with its vibrant sites.
