Description

The space

welcome to our coolio live / work loft space with extra room!

we're not just a hotel, we are an experience.

MUST HAVE: id pic, short bio and quick inquiry / interest note of the space before stay requests (of which should include that you like and / or LOVE dogs). sorry no exceptions. if you are automatically declined, that's why. thanks.

current occupants: a designer/cook, a coder, 3 canines and a variety of fish and giant mystery snails.

LiKE DOGS? the building is a dog building. many tenants have them and they come in all shapes, sizes, breeds and ages. plus... we have three of our own. PARKER POSEY (9 year old weimaraner, MADiSON 5 year old and TiNY MAiSEY (1.5 year old 4lb baby "wookie"). for pics / temperaments check out our pic tour and past guest reviews. if you like or LOVE dogs (you kind of need to), you'll get your fix here!

NOTE: since our space is intimate and we already have 3 canine tenants, unfortunately we can not do pet overnighters.

ROOM: with full size bed, (fresh / clean linens), lots of pillows, large mirror, mini skylight, abundant lighting options: reading, ambient and overall.

BATHROOM: spacious and super clean shower, sink and toilet area. fresh towels. plus a chance to meet full time bathroom resident OLiVE, our awesome gourami fish. sadly our amazing OLiVE passed away last spring after 5 long happy years with our family. now we just have regular old trout looking fish. but the tank is still quite lovely to space out too.

KiTCHEN: coffee / wine bar area large open kitchen with industrial steel counter top / sink, gas stove (open to the bar area), big fridge (guest shelves available), cook book library, etc.

BREAKFAST 7:00AM - 8:30AM fresh french press coffee and super-tasty lemon thyme scramble with toast upon request (available saturday / sunday).

self serve... the usual suspects: local scones, crumpets, fruit, oatmeal, juice, fresh ground french press coffee, a variety of teas, etc.

CHOW: large round wooden table. comfortable, modern seating. little open bar area; great for a cup of tea, coffee, beer, wine, etc. checkout our guidebook for all our favorite take out eats.

LiViNG: large bright (east wall of windows) lots of room to chill.

LAUNDRY / waste management: in loft trusty front loader washing machine, air dry rack (or coin dryer available in building), recycling, composting, trash.

GARDEN / parking lot: hang out in our beautiful parking lot garden that sports a meyer lemon tree, palm tree, various in season greens / veggies and a wide range of tasty herbs for the picking: lemon thyme, flat leaf parsley, tarragon, basil, mint, rosemary and sage. grill and personal fire pit ready for use. guests have access to garden harvesting.

PARKiNG: free gated off street parking.

FREE WiFi: indoor / outdoor high speed wifi for your streaming enjoyment!

NEiGHBORHOOD: authentic old school artist's live / work building. exactly on the border of berkeley, oakland and emeryville.

COMMUTE: a 5 minute straight shot to I-80 (sf). 15 minute walk to bart (sf and beyond). 5 minute walk (3 blocks) to a local super-tasty bakery. sweet adeline's. our favorites are the: tea cakes, apple turnovers, cherry corn scones, carrot / ginger breads, chocolate cream pie etc.

checkout our guidebook for all our local faves.

NEiGHBORHOOD: proximity to three great east bay cities: oakland, emeryville and berkeley... along with easy commute to the SF.

COMMUTE: we're right at the border of oakland, emeryville and berkeley. here's a few transit notes. we're about a 15 minute walk to BART (transbay transit), then a 20 minute ride that pops you up in downtown SF. billy does it everyday for work. not too long for a day's adventure in SF.

if not up for the walk to BART, there is a trans bay bus across the (website hidden): i love cooking and sharing. so you love food of any type: carnivore, vegetarian or vegan... you'll enjoy!

SPECiAL NOTE: our "super loft adventure" is only available for short term stays (2-4 day average ). we do longer term stays in our "secret attic hideout”, which you can checkout here: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/235160

This was my first airbnb experience and I couldn't have asked for a better host. The house was lovely and very modern with beautiful decorations and wonderful people, as soon as you walk in you feel like it's a home away from home very safe.Billy and Bren are exceptional hosts. They new when to engage in conversation with me and when I was tuckered out the gave me my space to nap and enjoy the space. And I can't forget our other house mates, the doggies they have are such a joy to be around i couldn't get enough of them. They are very friendly and loving dogs. Very well trained. I would love to go back and visit, if I plan another trip to San Francisco I'll definitely see if this space is available.

I highly recommend these guys! The area is very safe and their house is beautiful! If you love dogs, this is the perfect airbnb for you! Bren and Billy are amazing and made me feel very welcome. The room that I stayed in was bigger than I expected and very convenient. When I was talkative and full of energy they engaged me with conversation. When I was tired from exploring the area they gave me my space :) I will definitely be returning.

Bren & Billy are great hosts! They have a few wonderfully friendly, sweet and well-behaved dogs. My motorcycle stayed safely parked behind a locked fence in front of their unit. I had a very quiet night's sleep, and was offered coffee and a snack in the morning. The walk to/back from BART is abt 15 minutes. The neighborhood between Bren & Billy's place and the BART station could, perhaps for some folks, be a little intimidating late at night if you are not familiar with the area. I am very familiar with the area, so I knew what to expect late at night when I returned from a show in The City. I would certainly stay there again if I was in need of a place for a night or two and if I wanted to be close to The City. Thank you Bren & Billy.

This was my second time staying with Billy and Bren. Both are lovely hosts, our stay was comfortable, and the loft is the perfect place to stay if you want easy access to the bay area! The BART station is easy to get to if you want to go into the city, but there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the loft. Their pups are the sweetest and will keep you company while you drink your morning tea. Thank you again for your hospitality!

This is a true gem! Such an inspirational living environment. Amazing location as BART takes you to the city in no-time. The loft itself is a dream come true. Bren and Billy, such fantastic open creative people. The world would be a better place if there were more people like them! And the pups, what else can I say apart from that I left a piece of my heart there. Thank you!

hi. here are some personal details of us...

humans:
BiLLY: a coder. easy going.
BReN: a freelance designer/cook. worker bee.

canines:
PARKER POSEY: a sweet 8 year old weimaraner. slightly neurotic.
MADiSON: a bright 5 year old (non yappy) chihauhau. scary smart.

other:
NOAH: yellow bellied slider turtle. not affectionate. keeps to himself.
OLiVE: an awesome gourami fish. likes to swim.

CONNECTiViTY
we have fast (reliable) wifi to stream / download music, movies, television, etc.
we like all kinds of music and movie genres. love, love documentaries.

billy likes to stream all kinds of lectures (physics, mathematics, economics, etc).

my favorite shows i stream are: house of cards (netflix version), tons of BBC, indie films and just about any/all documentaries i can get my hands on.

my favorite music / news stream is KCRW (a killer public radio station out of santa monica).

FOOD
we love food. i love to cook. my dream someday is to have my own BnB and / or mini food truck.

the past few years we've been into urban gardening and growing our own herbs (and some vegetables / greens) to harvest. dream some day is to build a chicken coop and hopefully acquiring some happy little laying hens. nothing like hen to kitchen eggs.

guests have access to garden harvesting and kitchen which includes big fridge, industrial steel counter, gas stove, cook book library and mini breakfast bar.

first two nights of stay, we offer 7:00AM - 8:30AM fresh french press coffee and super-tasty lemon thyme scramble with toast upon request.

special note: although we eat meat from time to time, we can also be vegetarian / vegan friendly.

check out our local guidebook for our favorite food / wine places we like to hang out at.

GREEN
we have a laundry / waste management area.

laundry includes energy saving front loader washing machine. we line / rack dry (access to coin dryers in building).

waste management includes: recycling paper, metal, plastics and composting. we have an awesome two tier compost bin. our worms are high producing and are important household members. the abundant parking lot garden is evidence of their work.

ANiMALS
we love our animals. you don't have to love them, but you need to be dog friendly to stay here. part of the adventure is having access to our awesome loving dogs.

canine friends are welcome in our loft space, as long as they are potty trained and socialized.

we have easy potty access and poop bags. there are a number of great local off leash dog parks that we take our girls to daily.

(two notes on dogs: 1) we can only have dogs in our loft space, not in our attic space 2) we aren’t set up to do doggie day care. if you are here with your dog, you won’t be able to leave them here unattended. but there are several good dog-day care spots nearby.

we are kid friendly as long as they don't bite and are socialized -- he he he.

HUMOR
airbnb suggests sharing a life motto? we don't really have one. we do love a good sense of humor though.
