I'm a consultant and yoga teacher looking to host friendly travelers coming through Chicago. Here's what I have to offer you:
Hablo espanol perfectamente bien!
NEIGHBORHOOD: Located just off Chicago Avenue and Wood Street, the neighborhood is at the heart of the culture, arts, and entertainment in Wicker Park/Ukrainian Village/Division Street corridor, described as "the vanguard of music, nightlife, and fashion in Chicago". The neighborhood offers nightlife, bars, historic buildings, vintage shops, great restaurants (Mexican, Thai, Vegetarian, American, Indian, Middle Eastern, etc. etc.) coffee shops, bakeries, art galleries, and parks to enjoy all within 5-10 min walking distance.
Just a 20-min bus ride to Magnificent Mile/Water Tower Place and the lakefront, or a 30-min bus/train ride to Millennium Park and downtown hotels, tourism, and conference venues in the loop.
TRANSPORTATION: I'm a quick 30-45 min ride from O'Hare/MidwayMegabus/Union Station on the 'el' train for $2.50. One ride is $2.25 and a transfer is $0.50, though an additional $2.00 surcharge from O'Hare. It is better to buy a 1, 3 or 7 day pass if you are going to be traveling around. CTA Full Fare Ventra Passes for bus/train can be purchased at the airports upon arrival or via (website hidden):
PARKING: Ample free and metered parking is available right outside my doorstep.
LIVING SPACE: Simple accommodations include the basics you'll need for a restful place to relax and unwind on your travels. I have a TV with cable and a DVD player in the living room, and access is limited to guests depending on when I use that space for yoga or working from home. WIFI is free in the home, and also cool cafes and bars with wifi are within one block walk are open early and late.
Yoga mats are available if you want to practice here, or I can direct you to studios within walking distance. You can also relax with a quiet book on the garden patio while sipping some fresh brewed tea or coffee.
I believe in mutual respect of host-guest, and as an equal opportunity host, I am welcoming of all cultures, races, ages, religious/spiritual beliefs, sexual/gender identity/expressions (LGBT-FRIENDLY), and disability status. However, because my home is on the second floor with stairs and no elevator, the unit is not ADA accessible.
MEALS & KITCHEN: Breakfast is self-serve, including such items as Starbucks coffee, assortment of looseleaf and pre-packaged teas, fruit, oatmeal, and cereal with almond milk, rice milk, or cow's milk, your choice.
BEDROOM(S): I can offer you a private bedroom in a cozy 2 bedroom apartment. The single bed in the private room is an IKEA LYCKSELE futon (a few inches narrower than a twin size mattress) that sleeps one and has an extra mattress on top for ideal comfort. I have slept on this bed many times and it's very comfortable. Fresh sheets, pillows, and towels are provided. The closet in this room is shared with the host (the only closet in the apartment is in this room). An additional room with a queen size bed may be available - please inquire if wanting accommodation for more than one person.
During warm months, central A/C is available. Central heat is provided during cold months.
Hope to host you soon! :)
Greg's place was great! He was very accommodating and the location was perfect.
Greg is a great host! Helpful and very friendly! You feel the warmness and spirituality in his place.
His location is 15 to 20 minutes from lakefront by bus #66. If you like running, get up at 7 and run all the way down from his location to lakefront in less than an hour, another amazing way to explore Chicago!
Great breakfast, comfy bed, easy to find location, and Greg is very friendly!
Greg is the friendliest and most helpful host you could hope for. The flat is very cosy, and the location is convenient for getting into town or to the airport. The only reservation would be for people with housedust allergies (there is carpet in the little bedroom) and for people with very light sleep (the heating system is not the quietest I have ever heard, but okay). Overall I certainly recommend Greg's welcoming home.
Second week with Greg was still good! Once we talked about artist in Chicago. And he even wrote an Email to one of his friend who also is an artist. I am really happy that airbnb connect us . This is a very nice experience . And Greg , he is the most friendly and wonderful landlord ! Thanks !
Greg probably is one of the most kindness landlord I ever met. He is really nice. He noticed I like eating banana and almond milk in the morning for breakfast . So he got them for me , he even prepared my favorite flavor -chocolate !!
I learned a lot of new food from him . He shared his hand made chicken soup with me witch really delicious !!
One day I was in illness . He even refilled the water of humidifier for me . I am so appreciate ..
The information of art events that he prepared for me are also very nice. Every time when I have any question about this new city. He always give me a very satisfying answer .
And the bus stop is in front of the door..guess it's the best part , right ?
I like his little X'mas lights in house , too. Very cute.
And if I can get a bigger space of closet , that will be wonderful :)
All for all is really good , I like my time staying with Greg^^
I went to Chicago for Riot Fest 2013. The Lone Traveler's Delight was just the right place for my trip. The bus line was steps from the door. The neighbourhood felt safe. The apartment was cozy. The bed was comfy. But best of all, the host, Greg, was warm and friendly and made me feel comfortable in his home. I would certainly try to stay there again on a future trip to Chicago.
Chicago showed me a friendly face, and one of them was Greg. He was easy-going and very helpful host, and not much around on those two days when I was there.Greg had some friends over at times, but they were very quiet.
Everything was clean, and everything worked well: good shower, good quality bed, excellent wifi. Enough locks on outer doors to keep feeling safe.
This place is an old house, so it is not for those looking for sterile hotel feel. Apartment is quite charming, but the room is very small. It has well working air conditioning and a huge mirror.
I especially liked the possibility to have rice milk for breakfast and the nearby Dominiks was excellent place to get good groceries.
Greg was very kind and open with his space - he provided cereal for breakfast, and was really helpful and flexible in meeting me to let me in. The location is really good and convenient to the loop, too.
Greg is a great host! He is very kind and peaceful, and very helpful too with suggestions about things to do around, etc. His place looks exactly like the pictures. I stayed in the room with the single bed and although it was a small room it was pretty comfortable, and I had two suitcases with me. The best thing is that the bus stop is really right in front of the entrance to his place. I came in late every night and felt very safe because of that. Altogether a good experience and I am very happy to have met Greg.
