Bolungarvik is a small and quiet fishers village next to the Arctic circle with 930 inhabitants. It lies 15 km next to Isafjördur with its domestic airport.
You will enjoy your stay in Bolungarvik if you like: northern lights, snow, fishing, calmness, adventure, creativity, hot pots, heavy storms, hiking, swimming, skiing and good fish.
Our comfortable house (118 sqm) is full of natural light, the rooms are all on the ground level. It is a two bedroom house, under floor heating, modern furniture, a bathroom, an open kitchen with living room and Internet included. Behind the house there is a garden and a little terrace. Up to 5 people can stay there. There is an extra folding bed for kids available.
Out from the kitchen you see the fjord and Hornstrandir. You go 150 meters to the sea. There is a supermarket in the village and in walking distance to our house. The capital Reykjavik is 560 km away (flying time 40 minutes). There is always the opportunity to take the shuttle bus to and from Isafjödur. Very comfortable house, in a quiet, beautifull and interesting environment. Great view from both - the front and back - windows!! Nice place to relax after a long walk through the country side.
We arrived later than expected in Bolungarvik but getting the keys was very easy and Iris' family was extremely helpful and friendly. The house is very nice and we were very comfortable there with another couple and two young babies. We had a little trouble figuring out the washer/dryer and stove, but I think it's just a bit different from American style appliances - I would recommend leaving an instruction sheet for guests. Over all, we would stay here again in this beautiful part of Iceland and the whole experience was friendly, smooth, and easy.
This is definitely the best cottage at the end of the world! Everything you need for a real home away from home. Sleeps 3-4. The view is spectacular and there's lots of space. I had a horrible cold when I arrived and I was able to camp out for a day and make homemade soup which helped a lot. Basically the home is perfect and it was super easy to communicate with Iris and get into and out of the cottage.
Bolungarvik the town is tiny. Isafjordur is also tiny. Don't expect anything to be open when you want it to...with our schedule of being out on tours we were literally unable to spend money at most places because of limited hours. We took the bus back and forth between the towns but recommend having a car...the bus runs infrequently and is fairly expensive.
We loved it, but we love really remote and tiny places.
What an amazing house in the Westfjords! Iris was super at communicating with us and even helped us find the most wonderful fishing excursion. We loved the layout and the view from the kitchen window was fabulous. We loved the hiking and the NATO communication center was the most breathtaking view during our whole stay in Iceland. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Sehr empfehlenswert!
Very lovely and comfortable house with a wonderful view at the fjord. Friendly and uncomplicated host. Great kitchen and big living room, where you can look at the mountains. we would like to come back.
Tipp: take a boat trip to Hesteyri
The house is just fantastic, everything was perfect! It is just near the shore, close to the mountains, maybe the most beautiful place we stayed in during our trip!
