The House & Its Location:
Our house is located at the intersection of the Historic Districts of Bedford-Stuyvesant and Clinton Hill, in vibrant, artistic, and diverse Brooklyn, famous for its history and architecture. Our charming rooms are located on the fourth floor of our 19th century Victorian home with all its original detail. A lovely accommodation, it features two comfortable, spacious, furnished private rooms -- one of which is listed here. (If you wish to book the two rooms at once, please find "Charming Rooms in Victorian Home" on Airbnb.)
Each room has a full-sized bed, dresser, bedside tables, large closet, original detail, and abundant light. Fresh towels and bed linens will welcome you. The bath and kitchenette (microwave oven, refrigerator, coffeemaker, and dishware), located on the same floor, are shared with guests from the other room.
A quick subway ride will put you in downtown or midtown Manhattan in fifteen-to-thirty minutes. We are only a twenty-minute walk to Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Museum, the Botanic Garden, the main branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, the trendy Park Slope neighborhood, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music; and less than two miles away from downtown Brooklyn and Brooklyn Heights. We are also close to Fort Greene and Williamsburg, and a few blocks away from the Pratt Institute and St Joseph's College. We are easily accessible to either the JFK or LaGuardia airports. The G, A, and C subway lines, and a number of local buses are readily available. Restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, and the Atlantic Terminal Mall are also nearby.
Free Wi-fi. Breakfast is not provided, though you are welcome to use the kitchenette to fix something yourself. Also, given the age and size of our house, corridors and bathrooms can be drafty during the winter months. Close the door to your room, however, and you can create as toasty of an environment as you wish, using the energy-efficient space heaters provided. One other thing: This is a no-shoe house. We leave our shoes at the entrance. So, especially in the winter, you may want to bring a nice pair of slippers or thick socks. There is AC available during summer months. Last but not least: Laundry service (wash, dry, and fold) is available for $10 per load. Just ask. :-)
Update: We now have 2 kittens at home.
No smoking. No pets. Rooms on top floor of a family-owned Victorian house. Please be considerate. You are asked to kindly take off your shoes and leave them at the entrance. We also ask all our guests to be reasonable in the use of water and energy. Unplug all appliances when not at home. No open flames, such as candles.
It was our first trip to New York City and our very first experience with airbnb and it couldn't be better!
Mary had been a great host: kind, friendly and always helpful. She gave us lots of useful advices about Manhattan, Brooklyn and how to move or what to do in this Big City.
The room was exactly like the one of the pictures, very clean and comfortable.
Great position! Far from Manhattan confusion but so close to the metro station with which you can reach downtown Manhattan within 10-15 minutes!
Very safe and typical neighborhood, with a lot of good and pretty places. No better way to see the real New York and how the Newyorkers really live!
Great experience, all in all! We will surely come back to Mary's place if we will come back to the Big Apple! :)
Mary is a friendly and pleasant host. Although we spontaneously had rebook our flights and postpone our stay by 2 days, Mary was very cooperative since it was no problem to come later and stay longer. The room is quite large and comfortable.
However, although Mary's house-rules stated "no pets", we were continously beeing greeted by two cats, what was a problem for me since I am allergic to cats - and in fact, it was very hard to get them out of our room during the whole stay. That was annoying.
The way to Manhatten is manageable within 30 min but the neighbourhood appeard quite spooky to us, especially during the nights, to we oftentimes catched a cap.
We received a hearty welcome. me and my gf arrived the thanksgiving day and Mary gave us a dish with some nice food she prepared for the lunch and a piece of cake. that was very kind and everything was very good, as well as the (other) piece of cake we received the second day.
The room was cleaned and warm. The bathroom also, as well as the kitchenette, very useful when we decided to have dinner home.
the subway is about 5 mins walk and the neighborought was quite and nice. We didn't have either any problem in reentering at 2 a.m.
Strongly recommended for cleanliness, discretion and welcoming
Great host! Super nice family in friendly neighborhood. I would always go back there.
Mary was the best host we could imagine !!
It was our first trip to New York City and our first experience with airbnb! Mary and her lovely family welcomed us very friendly when we arrived in Brooklyn. We felt directly like home and Mary told us a lot about New York as well as about some nice places in Brooklyn!
The room was exactly like you can see it on the pictures! The bedroom as well as the bathroom and the little kitchen were very clean and very comfortable !! At the end of the day we were always looking forward to sleep in this cosy bed :) !!
The metro station at Franklin Ave. is only a few blocks away from the house and your are in downtown Manhattan within 10-15 minutes, so the connection was great :) ! The neighborhood was very safe so there is no need to worry about 24/7 !
All in all it was a great time to stay with Mary and her family and we will be sure to come back one day :) !
Thanks for all!
I had a great time at Mary's place. It was really a home away from home. Mary and her husband were very welcoming and took care of things immediately. The room was spacious and nicely furnished, the 'kitchen' and bathroom were comfortable and clean and the pumpkin bread on the first day was delicious! The neighborhood is nice, with a subway station and some cosy cafes and bars nearby.

Here's Mary with her son, Erik. Mary lives in the house with her son, her husband, Julio, her step-daughter, Alejandra, and her mother-in-law, Aida. In addition, there are both short and longer-term guests that stay periodically. YOU could be one of our guests!
