Cosy room for 1 in grand 5br apartment with beautiful decor in city center. Overlooking a green square, the place is a few steps to the hotspot Rosenthaler Platz and trendy Kastanienallee. Flea market Mauerpark is 5min by foot.
The apartment is really extraordinary. It is a renovated old building with many beautiful historic details, like stucco, decorated double wing doors and high ceilings. Just have a look at the photos! Our house is located very central and in one of the most desired neighbourhoods of central Berlin, with many small restaurants, small independent shops and boutiques just around the corner. You will sleep in our guest room which is equipped with a single bed, a writing desk, a commode and some shelfs.
We will also be in the apartment during your stay. We are a family of four: Maike, 36, author for audiovisual media, Andreas, 42, bar owner and sound designer, Sophia, our 6 year old girl and Maria, two years old. The children are normally quiet and won't disturb you. They go to bed at 8 pm.
The location couldn't be better -- to hotspot Rosenthaler Platz it takes you five minutes by foot and to trendy Kastanienallee one minute, and on Sundays you walk five minutes to the famous Mauerpark flea market. It takes you 15 min by foot to the main tourist sites Hackescher Markt and Museumsinsel (5 min by metrotram).
Kastanienallee around the corner is the trendy street of Prenzlauer Berg with its lovely independent boutiques, bakeries, cafes and bars. Our neighbourhood is liked by young people with academic backgrounds and young families -- it is lively, quiet and green at the same time, there are many trees and very few traffic.
The apartment has a direct view on the Zionskirche, a beautiful (and historically interesting) church, surrounded by high chestnut and linden trees. A wonderful quiet, green oasis inmidst the lively city.
Your guest room has a window on the green yard. It is very quiet - no noise at all.
Many guests said the room is actually bigger than it looks on the photos.
You will share our bathroom, but don't worry: we get up around 7 and need only minutes in the bathroom, so that you can use the bathroom anytime when you need it.
You can also use our kitchen to prepare a breakfast, however, most guests we have go to one of the many cafés or bakeries nearby to have breakfast. We appreciate if you don't cook hot meals.
We will be happy to advise you about your discoveries in Berlin. We know the city very well. The atmosphere in our home is warm and welcoming and we love to have guests!
Smoking is not possible in the apartment.
You have the guest room completely to yourself. We will share the bathroom. This has never been complicated, as we don't need the bathroom much in the morning. You are welcome to make yourself a coffee or tea in our kitchen or a small cold meal. We appreciate if you don't cook hot meals for yourself, and not after 20.00h.
If we are not at home, you are welcome to sit down in our beautiful livingroom. When we are at home, we appreciate our privacy in the livingroom, as the children use it for playing and Maike for working.
Interaction with Guests
We will also stay at the apartment during your stay. You are welcome to ask us questions anytime when you feel the situation allows it (maybe not when we put the children to bed :-)
We are open for longer conversations in the evening, but this is not a must at all. As we are a very busy working parents family, we need some of the few hours when the children are sleeping for family administration and airbnb messages :-)
Our neighbourhood is one of the most desired central neighbourhoods of Berlin -- it is lively, quiet and green at the same time. No wonder that many young people with academic backgrounds, media professionals, creative people and young families live here and enjoy very much being outside, sit in the cafés and restaurants or on the green playgrounds with their children.
The neighbourhood is so in demand, because it is urban yet at the same time quiet and safe. The population is young, educated, "green" and trendy. For young families it's just the paradise - many children live here, there are beautiful playgrounds, many trees and hardly any traffic. Monuments/sightseeing like Hackescher Markt, the wall memorial and museum in Bernauer Str or Museums Island are in walking distance.
Kastanienallee is only one minute by foot - this is the trendy street of Prenzlauer Berg with its lovely independent boutiques, bakeries/patisseries, cafes and bars.
Next U-Bahn stations: Rosenthaler Platz (U8) or Bernauer Str. (U8), or tram station Zionskirchplatz (lines M1 and 12 take you in 5 min to Hackescher Markt and Museumsinsel, or in 10-15 min to Friedrichstr./Unter den Linden/Brandenburg gate.
The location couldn't be better -- Hotspot Rosenthaler Platz is five minutes by foot and trendy Kastanienallee one minute, and on Sundays you walk five minutes to the famous Mauerpark flea market. It takes you 15 min by foot to Hackescher Markt and Museumsinsel (5 min by metrotram).
Other Things to Note
The photos were taken two years ago, right now there is a little more clutter around (we can't avoid this due to the kids ;-) We try to keep it tidy, but with two kids you can't help it sometimes.
For people with allergies: We do NOT have animals.
Our apartment is in the first floor, and there is no elevator. Around 20 stairsteps lead you to the "bel etage" where our apartment is.
No smoking is allowed in our apartment.
Check-in should be from 15 to 19.45. Exceptions can be made upon early request. I appreciate when you let me know already at the booking process.
If you check in after 20.45, you should not ring the doorbell, but call me on my mobile phone (number will be available as soon as you have booked).
Check-in is possible after 15.30h. If possible, not later than 19.45h. Check-out at the day of your departure should be at 11.00h.
Baggage drop-off: You can drop off your luggage earlier than the check-in and leave it here after check-out UPON REQUEST. This is dependent on our schedules. Please let me know as soon as possible.
It is strictly forbidden to download illegal material and media with our WiFi connection (this includes songs from "share" platforms!). We never download illegally (also because we are convinced that payment for media content is justified), so we will bill you for that.
Please help us to save hot water, for environmental and financial reasons. You should not take a shower more than once a day and keep it as short as possible.
However, we have made great experiences with our airbnb guests and we will make sure that you feel welcome and comfortable at our home -- we love to have guests and will care for you :-)
Maike and her family were Super kind & helpful. The room is comfortable and clean, the neighbourhood extremely convenient. Would come back to stay any time!
The listing and description were dead-on accurate.
The hosts were very welcoming, went out of their way to make me feel well.
The place is in ideal position for walking and getting to know Berlin.
It was a pleasure staying at Maikes place. It was I'm a great area and on the first floor which was great since I did have a large luggage. The room was nice and clean and I loved the fact there they also provide a mini fridge in the room. I had no problems at all with the bathroom situation in the morning and evening at night. Maike and her family were very kind and helpful with all my questions made sure I had everything I needed. They also provide a booklet with recommendations for places to visit in Berlin. Highly recommend staying here when Berlin.
Everything as described. Host was friendly and accommodating--very helpful in helping me get around.

I work as an author/dramaturg and creative producer for audiovisual media (video games, film) and in transmedia storytelling. Recently, I have started a small second business: doll making (Waldorf dolls).
With airbnb, I offer two different places: my sweet 1-bedroom working apartment in Lychener Str. (for 2 people) and a single room in our apartment at Zionskirchplatz, both in Berlin.
Travelling, diving into other cultures and exploring new places in a particular way I have always loved. I am a true airbnb fan and wished there would have been airbnb when I had more time to travel!
I have a crunch for dramatic landscapes and for National Parks all over the world. I also love the countryside in Italy and South France.
I enjoy very much quirky stories and people. Tell me some funny stories you experienced and I am your fan :-)
I also like cooking, hiking (mountains) and visiting museums, castles and rustic restaurants.
Regarding the single room in Zionskirchstr.:
I live in the apartment together with my husband Andreas and our two little daughters (born in 2009 and 2012). Andreas runs a club and bar and also is a sound designer and musician for electronic music.
