enjoy yourself, enjoy the house and enjoy our beautiful city
Although our stay at Alan's lovely log home was short, we really enjoyed the experience. Alan was always quick to respond to texts and was very flexible about our arrival time changing on short notice. The home is beautiful and unique, full of storied family antiques and classic log cabin decor. The bedroom and bathroom were immaculate and as pictured. We felt right at home, with Alan offering the right balance of interaction and alone time. A great place to stay while visiting Charleston - we would not hesitate to stay again.
Wonderful place to stay! just like the photos on four acres, mostly wooded, so you see trees outside from all the windows, yet only 20 minutes from Charleston, and on the way to Savannah. Alan and his wife were very welcoming, energetic, and happy. My daughter and I felt very much at home. The house has some enormous logs supporting the high cieling, really unusual, and is super clean. Highly recommended and easy to find. Alan answers texts right away, too!
We had a wonderful stay with Alan and his wife, one of the friendliest couples you'll ever meet. Alan and his wife actually built their house themselves -- as in, with their own hands -- and it is an absolutely beautiful place to spend a night, full of antiques from their families and still smelling of fresh-cut wood! A particular treat from the evening we arrived was that Alan fired up the hot tub for us -- we spent a particularly pleasant hour soaking in the tub and taking in the night air. Alan also very kindly made us lattes in the morning, which is all we had time for before we slipped out the door. The neighborhood is rustic and really feels like an escape. This is a very unique Airbnb with extremely kind and gracious hosts -- we recommend a stay here without reservation.
I had actually made this reservation back in November while I was overseas! Alan was great in getting back to me each time I sent a message with questions...he even graciously let me change the date when I had booked the wrong day!
I had a British couple visiting with me so we stopped at the Angel Oak Tree first, just 10 minutes away. I called Alan to let him know we were nearby and he said to meet him in a half hour so he could lead us down his drive and to open his gate. He was right there waiting for us and, once we had our introductions and met his sweet dog Spanky, he took inside his amazing house he had built and furnished with family antiques. It was such a unique lodging experience and he made us feel right at home. My friends had their own bedroom and I had the single bed in the loft. I was a bit concerned about the privacy, but there are lovely quilts hanging over the railings to break up the view. Alan and his wife watched TV downstairs until 9 when they very considerately turned it off and retired to their own area of the house.
We were able to fix our own coffee in the morning and, although both Alan and his wife had already left for work, we sat in the living room enjoying our coffee and the wonderful surroundings. It couldn't have been nicer and I want to bring I husband back to see it sometime soon!!
Gorgeous house! Great host! Though a bit far away from downtown, the environment is very quiet.
Upstairs bedroom in owner's home with adjoining bathroom. Alan and Elizabeth were extremely nice and friendly, and Spanky the dog was a treat. The residence is outside of Charleston and very private with a locked drive/gate. Mattress is firm. We spent most of our time the city and very little time at the house, so am not really able to comment on any amenities. Only item missing was a TV in the bedroom, just to catch up on the news, etc., in private. Only regret is not using the hot tub after a long day of sightseeing! We did find a friendly gecko in the bathroom!
Alan and his wife were amazing hosts.
Their home is absolutely gorgeous. It is nestled in the middle of a 4 acre property with beautiful trees surrounding it. Their is an electronic gate outside that Alan quickly opened for us when we got there. He gave us a tour of the property, including his classic cars which my boyfriend loved. Our room was better than expected, and the shower was great.
I would highly recommend staying here. It was a short 20 minute drive into the city, and about 20 minutes from the beach. I'll definitely be coming back here if I return to charleston.
