About this listing
Two bedroom flat ideally located near the city centre and both Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University, and the vibrant London Road and Ecclesall Road areas. Within touching distance of the Peak District for the nature lovers out there too!
The living and dining room. Sofa with fold-down arms that becomes a bed. Inflatable mattress also available. Complete with awesome rocking chair!
TEMPORARY NOTE: The photos on this listing are being updated to reflect my new accommodation: the furniture and facilities are identical but the layout of the flat is slightly different.
The flat comprises two bedrooms and a spacious reception room which functions as the primary living area. The main bathroom is accessed via the hallway (I have an en-suite in my bedroom), as is the reception room.
The second bedroom (your room) has a pine framed single bed. For an additional guest, I have a choice of two inflatable mattresses with a mains-electric pump: a double height single and a normal height double mattress. There is a further sofa-bed in the living room - see below. Sheets, bedding and towels available.
The living room has a comfy 2 seater sofa with fold-down arms and removable back cushion, that becomes a single bed if needed (which is very comfortable!). The flat has electric heaters and the stove is electric as well, so there is no smoke or CO detector installed.
The flat has a fully functioning kitchen with electric hobs, a decent over-bath shower and a washer/dryer which you may use. There is a dishwasher although I tend to wash everything by hand. Feel free to use amenities and utensils (do clean after yourself) and help yourself to tea, coffee, milk, cereals, butter, jams etc. I have lots of normal and Oriental cooking sauces and spices and you're welcome to use these. I like baking my own bread so this may be available if you come to visit.
I don't have an actual TV but I have a 27 inch iMac computer which I use as a media centre, for watching DVDs, films, TV series or just the odd Youtube video! You're very welcome to use this as you wish.
Interaction with Guests
I live by myself, have travelled a lot and enjoy meeting new people from around the world; I am happy to share my experiences of Sheffield and its surroundings, although I have only been here a year or so (I lived in London for 9 years before moving here). I am somewhat of a foodie and enjoy cooking for friends and guests, and also open to new cuisines from guests.
I am out most evenings doing extracurricular music and activities and like being active at the weekends; am more than happy if guests would like to join in on social activities if I'm out with friends.
The flat is on the SW side of Sheffield just outside the city centre ring road; the centre is immediately across the ring road roundabout; the Crucible theatre, City Hall, Town Hall, Winter Gardens and Peace Gardens are about a 15-20 minute walk. The Edge, a large indoor climbing centre is nearby, as well as the Botanical Gardens. Sheffield Hallam University Collegiate campus is a few hundred metres away, and Sheffield University is about a 15 minute walk up alongside the ring road.
There are several large supermarkets nearby with plenty of options - Waitrose, Aldi, M&S Simply Food and a large Oriental grocery store. There are some excellent ethnic restaurants on London Road, as well as many of the bars and restaurants on Ecclesall Road.
The Peak District National Park is very easily accessible via Ecclesall Road and there are regular buses running to the Peaks including hotspots such as Chatsworth House. Many people cycle out to the Peaks and there is secure bike parking in the development where the flat is, should you wish to bring your bike.
The main Sheffield train and bus station are in the town centre around a 20 minute walk away; I may be able pick you up if I have a car with me when you visit.
It is a very short walk to the city centre, although there are plenty of buses going towards the city centre and out along London Road and Ecclesall Road. More information on request.
The flat has an allocated parking space for permit holders, so do let me know if you will need to use the permit, as I sometimes use the permit when I have access to the family car. Otherwise, it is possible to purchase daily parking from the Waitrose supermarket next door for £2/day.
Other Things to Note
Medium-long term lets also considered (e.g. 2-8 week visits to Sheffield for studies/research) purposes. Drop me a message to discuss details.
No additional guests permitted without permission.
No smoking inside the flat (there is a balcony which you may smoke on).
Eugene is a very nice person and the apartment is very nice, convenient located near city center and very clean. I do not imagine staying elsewhere if I will visit Sheffield again.
The flat is nice and lovely. It makes me feeling home. I really enjoy to stay in this lovely flat. The bedroom is pretty large. Everything is good with a really reasonable price.
I really enjoyed staying at the flat. Eugene was welcoming and I felt at home in the flat - and loved the yummy bread he had baked :) It's a 15-20 minute walk or so from the centre but there are supermarkets / restaurants nearby. Would definitely go back.
Eugene was a perfect host, very friendly, very welcoming and went out of his way to help. I gave him very little notice but he was still more than happy to accommodate me. The flat is as pictured and in a great location for restaurants etc. He happily pointed out a great place to eat. I highly recommend staying with Eugene, I immediately felt very welcome and at home. Most importantly I had a very good night sleep too. Eugene is a top bloke!
Eugene was extremely welcoming and made every effort to make us feel at home. An information sheet was provided too so that we could refer to that during our stay. A great location with an allocated parking space too. A balcony in the flat is a bonus as well. Would definitely stay again.
Eugene has a lot of great reviews, and that's because he has earned it! He has a very comfortable flat and we had everything we needed. His pre-arrival communication was top notch: I felt like I knew everything before I arrived! Eugene is very friendly and we ended up having a great visit about our recent travels.
About the Host, Eugene
I completed my undergraduate and PhD studies in London. Grew up partly in Asia. Currently working as a PostDoctoral Research Associate at the University of Sheffield doing in-silico modelling. Enjoy travelling, cooking, playing violin, singing (a cappella), inline skating, cycling, baking, and whatever else takes my fancy at the time.
I have travelled to lots of countries with amateur music tours (sometimes organising them) and enjoy meeting new people and find out about other cultures. At the same time, I love many things about the UK (including the food!!) and want to share my perspective and interpretation on why English food isn't as bad as everyone makes out.
I had a great first experience of AirBnB when I was looking around at research positions in the USA and that prompted me to want to meet and host people in my local area.
