The Space

Tastefully decorated apartment with one big room, corridor, kitchen, and bathroom in one of the loveliest streets in Prenzlauer Berg, Lychener Str. You rent the whole apartment, no-one except you will be there.

The furnishing and decoration is done in the colours white and greyish blue with a few red spots. The beautiful photos on the walls were taken by a dear friend of mine in Morocco. The wooden floor (timber piling) is beautifully restored.

The apartment is equipped with everything you might need. It is very quiet and light, as it is situated in the rear building of the house, with a view into the green yard.

There is no personal stuff from me in the apartment, except a few DVDs (different genres - from Hollywood Action to European Indies) and books (mostly novels in German, but also some English literature).

WiFi internet, bills, bed linen and towels are included.
There is a washing machine and a laundry rack, also a hairdryer.

There is a vast armchair for two people and a comfortable double bed. Also, there are cupboards and commodes for your stuff.
The kitchen is fully equipped, and so is the bathroom.

The apartment has a wonderful atmosphere and is very cosy! The perfect place to come home to after a long day under the sky of Berlin!

Guest Access

Guests certainly have access to all the rooms of the apartment.
Of course, I won't be present during your stay at my apartment -- it's all yours for the time of your stay.

Interaction with Guests

I will deposit the keys at a shop down in the street (max. 1 min by foot), so that you can check in independently from my schedule. You will also receive a sketch of how to find the apartment. So it is possible that we don't meet at all, however, you can anytime reach me on my cell phone and/or in the airbnb message system. I check my messages there often.
I put together some personal recommendations (restaurants, breakfast cafés etc.) in the information you will receive as soon as you have booked.

The Neighborhood

The neighbourhood is just the best you can get: many lovely small shops and boutiques (no chains, only independent, unique, owner-led places!), nice restaurants and bars just in the street. And at the same time, it is very quiet - it is not a crowded street, but a residential area. The quarter is one of the most desired in central Berlin, as it breathes a unique laid-back laissez-faire and savoir-de-vivre feeling.

In the shops nearby you can get everything a trendy mind and heart might desire - from self-made high quality chocolate to young Berlin fashion design, but also used books and records, beautiful stationaries, small and affordable design objects or bags with exchangeable covers, to name a few. You can stroll in the shops of the neighbourhood for days and won't have seen it all!

A few minutes by foot there is the beautiful square Helmholtzplatz, the heart of the quarter. Everyone living in the quarter meets here - the numerous young families, the students, and many creative freelancers, and also the very special characters of the quarter.

Within 10 minutes by foot, you reach Mauerpark with its famous Sunday flea market and open-air Karaoke show (a must!). To "Kulturbrauerei", a former beer brewery, now used as a event location for cool indie concerts, clubbing and other cultural events, you walk three minutes.

Lychener Str. belongs to the so-called "LSD quarter" ("LSD-Viertel") - but don't worry, this has nothing to do with drugs :-) The name comes from the capitals of the streets Lychener, Schliemann- und Dunckerstr, which are the streets surrounding Helmholtzplatz. Already before the fall of the wall, the neighbourhood was known for its unique flair, because many artists and creative people lived here who didn't want to adapt too much to the ideas of the GDR system. The quarter still breathes this independent feeling, although many higher-income earners with academic backgrounds have been attracted in the past 15 years. Also, the former students just stayed and got good jobs and children. You will hardly see old people - 95% of the quarter's inhabitants are between 20 and 50 years old. You can see many, many, many children here! Many people of the quarter are media professionals or creative freelancers, or people who lead their own small businesses. There are also quite some celebrities like actors or film directors (who estimate Berlin's laid-back attitude towards them - no-one would actually stare at them or ask for an autograph or photo).

In short, it's a quarter with a very high quality of life - it is unconventional, casual, creative, stylish and lively, and at the same time, quiet and green!

Getting Around

You walk three minutes to the U-Bahn (metro) station Eberswalder Str. (U2), which connects you directly to Alexanderplatz (7 min ride). The S-Bahn station Prenzlauer Allee (Ring) is a 10 min walk (direct connection to low-cost airport Schoenefeld).
Also, within three minutes, you find the trams M1 and 12, which bring you directly to Hackescher Markt in 7 minutes and to Friedrichstraße/Unter den Linden (Brandenburg Gate) in 15 minutes. Also, there is the tram M10, which brings you to Friedrichshain and Nordbahnhof.

I recommend using the trams because it's so beautiful to ride overground in the cosy pace of the cablecars - if you take the M1 or 12, you will ride along Kastanienallee, Weinbergsweg and Rosenthaler Str., all of them really cool streets for strolling, dining and shopping!

5 min by foot to Mauerpark, 2 min to metro station Eberswalder Straße (U2), 10 min to Alexanderplatz.

Other Things to Note

In certain time periods, I look for people who stay for exact amount of days (in order to fill the "gaps" between bookings), or for somone who stays for longer than the default minimum stay. So this might be the reason why I decline your inquiry -- however, just send the inquiry and I'll try my best to make your stay possible! (The system doesn't allow to preset these exceptions in the calendar.)

Please let me know the (first) name of your partner/friend who is staying with you in the apartment -- this makes it easier for me to write a personal welcome message!

House Rules

I do my best to make your stay at my apartment as perfect as possible and our communication smooth and effective. I appreciate when we continue communicating in the airbnb system.

Check-in and check-out
Check in is possible after 15.00h and check-out must be before 11.00h. Exceptions can be made UPON REQUEST in the booking process, and only if there is no other guest directly before or after you.

Please let me know your exact/desired check-in time at least 3-4 days prior to your arrival. I also need to know your planned check-out time 3-4 days prior to your departure. By this, I can arrange early or late arrivals or departures of follow-up guests.

If you want to check in after 20.00 (8 pm), please contact me in this matter early, because this is a little difficult.

If you don't contact me regarding special wishes for check-in and check-out at least 4 days in advance, your check-in must be after 3 pm and your check-out until 11 am.

As I have a very tight schedule, I deposit the keys in a shop nearby. So you are independent and can check in without my help. If you need advice or information, you can anytime reach me on my mobile phone and in the airbnb system - I use airbnb mobile on my smartphone.
Normally, I can come to the apartment within 15-20 minutes, if anything is wrong.

SMOKING IS NOT ALLOWED in the apartment! I want to offer the flat also to strict non-smokers.

Another important rule: It is strictly forbidden to download or stream forbidden/unlicensed material/media with the WiFi connection in the apartment. It has happened to other hosts that they had to pay high penalties for guests downloading material. If this happens in my apartment, I underline that I will bill you for this.

You should make sure that you leave the apartment tidy when you leave. I keep the price of the apartment low and thus do the final cleaning often by myself.

You should avoid noise which could disturb the neighbours.

You might have heard of the complicated German rubbish separating system ;-) The rubbish must be separated according to the garbage bins in the yard –paper must be thrown into the paper container, „Grüner Punkt“ packages (plastic package) into the yellow container and only the rest into the „normal“ black containers.

The washing machine is actually there for washing the bedlinen and the towels when you have left.

Whenever leaving the apartment, and be it only for 2 minutes, you must turn the key in the lock TWICE (insurance reasons).

No empty bottles must be left in the apartment.

I appreciate if you remove the sheets from the bed when you leave and put the sheets into the blue laundry bag in the corridor.

Whenever you observe a problem in the apartment, you must immediately inform me about it by phone (text message) or email.

If you have food left which might be good for other guests, you are welcome to leave it in the kitchen and/or in the fridge. The guests after you will be thankful!

There are some spots at the bottom of the shower tiles, which don't get removed even with the most effective detergent available. I suppose it's scale from the water which darkened. It looks worse than it really is.

I appreciate if you mention your favourite places (restaurants, bars, shops,...) in the neighbourhood in the feedback!
