About this listing
Welcome to our beautiful post and beam barnhouse, farm and gardens! Your room with vaulted ceiling and private bath. Rural setting, yet near the Five Colleges and outdoor adventure or retreat.
Our home centers around a stunning Great Room with a 2 story gable-end window and 2 story fireplace and chimney. We are decorated with an eclectic collection of family art, primitive antiques and international crafts. Each window provides views of the woods, the open pasture or grazing farm animals. Ours is casual home with cozy places for relaxing and restoring.
You will have access to the entire upstairs. This includes a room with double bed, a full bath and the sitting/TV area. There is a second bedroom with a 3/4 antique bed, for a 3rd or 4th person in your party. We rent to only one group at a time. There is an extra charge for this room of $65. You will dine in our Great Room and are welcome to use our kitchen. We will supply a simple country vegetarian breakfast. You are welcome to enjoy our outdoor space as well, visiting with our friendly goats, pony and mini-donkey.
Interaction with Guests
We will be home during your stay, available to answer any questions about your stay and/or area attractions. We tend to stay downstairs in our back rooms. We will ask you about your morning schedule and breakfast time. We tend to be nearby with our guests for breakfast, but that is optional.
Ours is a neighborhood with no neighbors in sight. Ah... We look out over our pasture and a small mountain nearby or back into the woods. The sky is open and lovely.
There is no public transportation, but you might see bikers, joggers and horseback riders passing by. There is ample parking. It's a long, sloped driveway, so good snowtires are recommended for winter travel. There is also a parking space at the bottom and we are happy to taxi you up, if there is a problem.
Other Things to Note
We like children and they are always welcome, but we would prefer children 3 years old and up. We have two cats but they aren't very fond of dogs. If you have to travel with a polite one, we'd contain our felines in our room. We prefer that guests arrive no earlier than 4:00 and depart by 11:00am, but exceptions can be made.
We expect civility and courtesy, and have only experienced that from every guest. Oh yes, please no smoking.
Pixie and John are inviting and generous hosts, and their home is a cozy retreat. There was snow on the ground while we were there, and the view from the house is just magical. Thanks to John and Pixie's suggestion, we even caught a holiday festival in nearby Shelburne Falls.
We arrived at Goat Meadows Farm a little later than we had hoped, and it was already dark as we pulled up the drive, but we were welcomed by the light and warmth of the both wood stove and John's smile as we entered the house. After chatting for a few minutes John showed us our room, a cozy, yet roomy space on the second floor, which also included a comfortable sitting area outside of the bedroom. Pixie and John's home is gorgeous. You could spend hours just looking at the beautifully displayed photos and art collected during their travels. Our room was clean and comfortable and after a fabulous dinner in nearby Shelburne Falls we tucked in for a great night's sleep. The next morning we enjoyed chatting with Pixie over a simple, but delicious, breakfast of eggs, toast, fruit, and coffee. We felt like we were with friends we'd known forever. I'm so glad we found Goat Meadows Farm, as we return to Conway fairly often. Thank you Pixie and John! We look forward to seeing you again soon!
We had a wonderful stay at Pixie's and John's farm. Our twenty month old son had an amazing time petting the goats, donkey and cat. The shelves and walls of the house are beautifully decorated and the house is gorgeous. Pixie and John were very warm and welcoming people.
We had a wonderful time staying with Pixie and John! They were very accommodating and kind hosts and we very much enjoyed talking to them and getting to know them over breakfast during our 2 day stay. Their home is very beautiful and the guest area is very comfortable. We also enjoyed meeting all of their wonderful animals! Thank you Pixie and John for a wonderful stay!
My boyfriend and I had a lovely two days staying with Pixie and John. They were warm, accommodating, interesting, communicative and helpful. They gave us some tips on what to see in the area and were generously flexible on arrival and departure time. They were also just lovely people: kind, funny, creative passionate people with many interesting experiences and projects to talk about. We had a great time exploring the fall foliage, Shelburne Falls, the flower bridge, and walking by the Deerfield. Their home is a great base to explore much of western MA and their house is very comfortable and absolutely beautiful-a virtual musuem of art and artifacts. You can have a lot of privacy if you like, or you can be more interactive. Was nice to see the goats and pony and donkey grazing in the field below when we awoke. Highly recommended!
All was accurate with the description - the place is gorgeous. I was there with my 3 grown daughters, so we had the entire upstairs which was great.
Pixie is an attentive and casual host. Her knowledge of the area is worth asking her about.
I had a chance to chat with both Pixie & John in the early morning - they are such solid citizens and caring people. Might go back sometime with just my husband.
Pixie and John's home was so beautiful and cozy! We had a great night's sleep in our room, and it was wonderful having the upstairs to ourselves. Everything was set up for us before we arrived, and we felt right at home.
Pixie was great at communicating with us and was very accommodating when we were arriving late. She left us water glasses and also allowed us to pick a time for breakfast the next morning.
Unfortunately, we never got to meet Pixie, but John was there to greet us in the morning. He made us a wonderful breakfast! John also showed us all around the house and the yards. We even got to meet their wonderful animals! John was so great to talk with!
We would HIGHLY recommend staying here!

About the Host, Pixie
My husband and I are retired public school teachers, who have raised 9 children and a lot of goats! Seven stepchildren are sprinkled across the country, but our two are nearby. Our daughter and son-in-law have given us two wonderful grandkids, and our adult son is a fine musician. Such blessings!
We have restored and built houses locally, and cabins in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. John is a self-taught carpenter/plumber/electrician and he has made many of my dreams come true! I come up with the building/decorating ideas and he makes them happen. I also love to garden, both perennials and veggies. We are vegetarians, so that means our freezer is full of our harvest.
We started B&B'ing as an overflow location for a friend's B&B down the road. We have met such great people, and so enjoy our breakfast parties together. It's a joy to share our beautiful space with others, and to learn from each guest.
We love our darling hilltown and are active community members here. We have the ability to be in the country all seasons, yet are close to many fine cultural activities brought to the Five Colleges. If we can travel, we head up to our cabin in VT. There we kayak in the summer and snowshoe in the winter. The Canadian border is 20 minutes away, and we know where the best French bakeries are!
