Come to visit us in beautiful Kerry! We are only 5 minutes from Cahersiveen, ideally located on the Ring of Kerry, the Skellig Ring and the brand-new Wild Atlantic Way long-distance driving route.
Welcome to our little piece of heaven!
Deceptively small and cute from the outside, our house is roomy and airy inside with an open plan layout. Many say it has a Spanish feel to it. It is tastefully decorated with a mix of Irish, German, French and Italian bits and pieces. They say a picture paints a thousand words, so please browse through the photos to get a feel for our place:)
This is the smaller of our two rooms (about 9 m²). It has a comfortable bed (4ft wide) and would suit either a single person or a couple. A hairdryer and bathrobes are provided in the room. Please check our other listing for the larger room ('Cute Country Cottage Skellig Ring', https://www.airbnb.ie/rooms/1930122).
Our guests have access to:
- a guest bathroom on the same level (please note that this bathroom may be shared with other guests in our second room)
- shared spaces: living room and conservatory
- garden and outdoor furniture
Ina serves her fabulous breakfast in the conservatory. It consists of tea and coffee, cereals, toast and bread, a selection of cheeses, cold meats, jam, marmalade, yoghurt, fruits and other goodies - more than enough to get you going for the day ahead! She will also cook eggs for you if you like.
Interaction with Guests
At least one of us will be here during your stay, and depending on work schedules, we are both present most of the time.
Ina is an Irish Dancing teacher and would be happy to give you an introduction to Irish Dancing in her studio, the "Rince Room". This is great fun - check the picture in the gallery!
Marcus will be delighted to show you around the grounds, our little woodland and his garden. He can also advise you on hiking in the McGillicuddy reeks, trips to the Skelligs and other highlights in the area. And if you are a Geocacher, Marcus is the man to talk to as he has hidden a good number in Southwest Kerry.
This is a great area, maybe less well-known as our neighbour Dingle, but we absolutely love it here. Sometimes, on a sunny day, we ask ourselves why we would want to go on holidays anywhere else when we have everything on our doorstep. On rainy days, we mostly change our minds again ;)
The new 2400 km long coastal driving route, The Wild Atlantic Way, passes very close to us. We are also on the famous Ring of Kerry (a drive around the Iveragh Peninsula).
We are located within the newly established Kerry International Dark-Sky Reserve with ideal conditions for skywatching and stargazing. The reserve has Gold-Tier status: this is only the 3rd of its kind globally and the first in the northern hemisphere.
We are surrounded by miles and miles of rugged coastline, fantastic beaches of all sizes, islands and fabulous mountain scenery. The photos will give you a little taste.
One of the highlights are the Skellig Rocks with the early Christian monastic settlement on one island and one of the largest Gannet colonies on the other. Trips can be arranged from the pretty village of Portmagee, just a very short drive away.
There are a number of recently established looped walks available in the area in addition to the long-distance Kerry Way walking route. Please ask us for details.
Derrynane House and National Park is about half an hour drive from here while Killarney National Park is just over 1 hour.
We also highly recommend an excursion into the interior of the Iveragh peninsula with its wild rivers, lakes and remote moors and mountains, including the McGillicuddy Reeks (Ireland's highest mountains). Someone commented and said this area looks like the "Highlands of Peru"; in fact is is signposted as Glencar, the "Highlands of Kerry".
Closer to home you'll find enchanting Valentia Island, the seaside villages of Portmagee, Ballinskelligs and Waterville, a magical stretch of coastline known as "The Glen", and not to forget ancient ringforts and castles near Cahersiveen, our busy local town.
Our house is not accessible by public transport. The nearest bus stop is in Cahersiveen and we would be delighted to meet you there. However, it would probably be best if you had your own transport to be able to explore the area. Bicycles can be rented locally.
Kerry Airport is 1 hour drive away while Cork and Shannon are about 2.5 hours each.
Other Things to Note
Please note that children come here for dancing lessons from September to April, Monday to Thursday in the afternoon and early evening. During these times it can get quite noisy.
We ask that you don't smoke inside and don't bring any pets.
Please take off your outdoor shoes when going upstairs. Slippers are provided.
Ina and Marcus's directions were very helpful in navigating through rural Ireland and finding their house. The house itself was beautiful and about five minutes from the town of Cahersiveen. I stayed in the smaller room, which was perfect for one person, the larger room looked as if it would be perfect for a couple. Ina and Marcus were fantastic hosts who really went above and beyond providing tea and delicious food.
Ina and Marcus could not of been more hospitable and friendly. They were great conversationalists as well, providing me with loads of information on the area that I would not of come along otherwise. On top of that, the breakfast they served me couldn't be matched by any 5-star hotel. I couldn't of been happier with my stay.
I highly recommend this Cute Country Cottage. When we arrived, the place felt very peaceful, beautiful and warm. We were greeted with hot tea and chocolates, and they made us feel like friends. even before we arrived, they had researched our requests, offering the Tomies for hiking and the waterfall of KIllearney, the stone forts 5 minutes away, the French bakery place in town, the Skelligs if you dare! Our favorite time was going over to Valentia; we found a path that brought us to the farthest reach of the entire Old World, and it was breath taking. Looking across the Skelligs protecting and praying for all of Ireland.
They also gave me some ideas for books to read, which I did before I came. I got caught in a downpour on a morning walk,so they found a heater to dry my shoes. Oh, but the best part was their sumptuous breakfasts-- gorgeous in presentation and better than a 5 star restaurant! (also most don't want to tell you about this place so I can keep it for myself !) They recommended a great reasonable restaurant in Portmagee, and took us to a small warm pub with trad music. They made us feel so at home.
They are situated in the crowning place of Ireland, the ring of kerry, and close to the Gap of Dunlough... if I were coming back, I would stay here for a week rather than going around Ireland, that's how good it felt. They are very kind, loving people. I can't recommend this place enough.
Ina and Marcus were very very good hosts. We enjoyed getting to know them. They are well located in Co Kerry. We stayed there while we were exploring the area. Breakfasts were amazing and sharing a little laughter and Bushmills in the evening was very memorable. We wouldn't stay anywhere else!
Ina and Marcus were amazing hosts! Warm and welcoming... We felt like part of the family. Their charming and immaculate home was just as described and was a most welcome stopover on our honeymoon as we explored the coast. The breakfasts were thoughtfully prepared and delicious. We also shared lots of laughs and stories. They were very accommodating, letting us stay an extra night when our accommodations fell through at the next stop. We said goodbye through tears and hugs. We wouldn't stay anywhere else on the Ring of Kerry.
My girlfriend and I had such an amazing time with Ina and Marcus! The hospitality they provided is simply un-matched. Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted with tea and baked goods, shown around the house, and given wonderful suggestions of things to see. The preparedness of our room was amazing (it even included tiny chocolates). It was clear to us that Ina and Marcus were excited to have guests and make them feel at home, in every way possible. In addition, Ina's breakf(e)asts were unbelievable. We were made to feel at home, and never felt like our presence was an intrusion. We enjoyed our stay so much, we decided to stay an extra night.
Between the warm welcome, hospitality, friendly conversation, delicious meals, and comfortable accommodation; If you're considering spending time near Cahersiveen, you owe it to yourself to stay with Ina and Marcus.

We are an Irish/German couple living in Kerry, Ireland. We think this is a very good combination:)
Ina was born and grew up here while Marcus is originally from East Germany and has been living in Ireland since 1993.
Ina is an Irish Dancing teacher and also loves painting. She likes to meet people and to stay connected and that's one of the reasons we are getting into this airbnb thing.
Marcus is an IT specialist and works mainly in Cork but also part-time from home. As if he doesn't get enough of computers during work hours, he also designs and maintains a couple of websites. In his spare time he is into Geocaching, photography and gardening (plenty scope for that around our house!)
We like to travel independently, make our own plans and find our own way. Usually we find it is the people we meet, along with the beauty of our destination, that make any holiday really special.
We discovered airbnb during our holidays in Sardinia in 2013. In fact, Italy is our favourite travel destination with France and Germany following not far behind. We like to bring our own car so that we can visit different wine regions and take some bottles home with us.
We have stayed with and want to especially recommend these airbnb hosts:
Ireland, North Tipperary:
France, Clisson (near Nantes):
Italy, Sardinia, Santa Maria Navarrese:
