If you have special dietary needs (e.g. gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, etc.) we will serve appropriately prepared foods; please provide dietary information at least two days prior to your arrival.
Steve and Shari are actively involved in their pursuits but one will likely be home during the day and will be available should you have a need or questions.
We will happily provide in-depth knowledge regarding great places to play and wonderful events to attend during your stay in Bend/Central Oregon.
Sun Crane Bungalow NW is located in the highly desirable Northwest Crossing neighborhood ("NWX"). The neighborhood offers views of the snow-capped Cascades to the west and Bend's iconic cinder cone, Pilot Butte, to the east.
Great food, beer and wine are available throughout Bend. Along with Bend's locals' "favorites" Portello Winecafe and La Rosa Mexican Kitchen, you will find Little Bite coffee cafe and Tooliani's Pizzeria just a short block away. During the summer, NWX hosts a Saturday market.
Within minutes, you can be in the popular Downtown, Galveston, Newport, and Old Mill districts.
We are centrally located to Central Oregon's exceptional outdoor sports activities. We are 20-25 minutes from Mt Bachelor and just minutes from snow shoeing and mountain bike trails. In summer, the lakes and rivers are home to recreational floating of all types. Hiking is available year-round in the high desert areas near Bend. When the snow melts, the Cascades attract hikers and climbers of all skill levels. Fishing and golfing are available year round.

Shari and Steve (and their sweet dog) were great! Shari was quick to respond to any questions before the stay, and was willing to be flexible in case we had to cancel our trip. They have a lovely home that is about a 3 minute walk to a great frozen custard/yogurt place (I'd recommend it). We were pretty tired and mostly just relaxed in the room, but we had all we needed (internet, a comfortable bed, warm blankets, shower and toiletries, etc.). I was also able to dry my wet snowboarding gear, which was much appreciated. Thanks so much!
Shari and Steve were very welcoming and accommodating (so was their dog, Kelso)! Their home was new and elegant - the perfect bungalow in the snow. When we arrived, Shari and Steve upgraded us for free to an even more spacious and luxurious room than we had originally anticipated. They provided us with recommendations on places to eat, drink, and visit in Bend. The two were easy-going and low key - they were nice to talk to without making us feel obligated to do so. A perfect mix of friendliness and privacy. Shari even served us delicious homemade granola in the morning before we departed. I would highly recommend staying here as it is a great place, nice people (and dog), and an excellent price.
We loved staying with Shari and Steve so much that we added another night at there place. Best stay in bend !!
First off, Shari and Steve are wonderful people. Charming and engaging. Our privacy was never an issue and when we wanted to chat with them about this or that, they were always engaging and never hesitated to give us directions or talk about their town. The bungalow room was nice and clean and we had easy access to our own bathroom that was nicely furnished with quality products. These two are a great couple and we couldn't of asked for a better situation or better hosts. 5 out of 5 stars. I would definitely stay with them again as I felt like they were friends by the time we left.
Great experience! Shari was incredible warm and welcoming, the house was beautiful and the room was perfect. Breakfast in the morning was a wonderful bonus, not to mention a great time to get to know a bit about more our hosts. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!
Shari's home was inviting and most of all COMFORTABLE. Bend is beautiful and this neighborhood had a gorgeous little park and neighborhood restaurants. Shari and Steve have great suggestions about places to visit and made me feel like I was in my own home. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it of you are in Bend.
My wife and I had a wonderful time, great bed and a comfortable quiet room. We slept great and woke up to good coffee. Would love to stay here again!

Three years ago, Shari Crandall, husband Steve Larson, and family returned to Oregon after living in the Metro-DC area for many years, where Steve was in the administration for the Arlington Public Schools and Shari was the executive director for Metro-DC's premier contemporary dance company.
Steve currently volunteers at Visit Bend and serves as starter/marshal at Brasada Canyons Golf Course. He enjoys fly-fishing, golfing, working on the house and yard. Shari loves exploring the high desert, mountains, mountain lakes and rivers. She is actively involved in the arts: she serves on the board for Art in the High Desert, the Art Committee for the Friends of the Redmond Library, and is a member of Sagebrushers Art Society.
Now empty-nesters, we have two delightful and sunny upstairs bedrooms, and a loft that are calling out to be filled with guests. (We have three listings for this space: Sunset Room that sleeps 2 with queen bed; Sun Room that sleeps 2 with double bed; and the combination of rooms with loft that sleep 2-6.)
Our greatest desire is that you have an exceptional experience while visiting Central Oregon, beginning with your stay at our home.
We, along with our very friendly bichon frise Kelso, look forward to meeting you and sharing our home with you.
