First of all the "hill" everyone refers to is a mountain, not a hill. It is almost a half a mile straight up to the top. Get a four x four vehicle! I am not in terrible shape but had to stop so many times the one day we had to walk it. I can't imagine anyone hauling luggage up that mountain. Ok, the rest is amazing! The view, the relaxation, the hospitality was more than we could have asked for of any vacation. Sebastian was very helpful in getting us hooked up with several very reasonable tours. I really appreciated that help. Loved the zip line and Tortuga Island tours. This is not a luxury stay so expect a cabin type experience. That being said our room was beautiful and comfortable. I would recommend this to anyone. Santa Teresa on the other hand is very third world country. The roads are worse than Berlin after the invasion. It is quaint but a little scary at first when you aren't used to this type of environment. By the time we left it was fine, we adjusted. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful. The food is amazing!!! I miss it very much! Casa Del Mar and Bali's were great places to eat. Pura Vida!

You stay at Surf Vistas Villas for the vista! I would sit outside every morning to just look at the ocean and listen to the surf. It was zen. Andrew's place is paradise in the jungle. You look down from the deck on the verdant plant life, manicured garden and of course the Pacific Ocean. The only negative of staying here is the Monster Hill. It took me about 12 minutes to walk this steep hill from the main road. It is a STEEP incline. We found walking diagonally (rather than straight up) helped when you were carrying heavy grocery bags from the Suoer Hacienda. Andrew does rent an ATV but I was nervous about getting in an accident on that hill. It is usually slick and wet in the mornings after the big afternoon rains in July. You have a good 20 minute walk from the villas to the beach. Playa Santa Teresa is pristine. There are great beachside restaurants such as Haberno to sit in shade and get a drink or eat lunch. I loved this place so much that I already booked a return stay in January. The best things: resident pets (we love the cat Teresa who visited us) and the dog is sweet too; firm mattress; swimming pool; hammock; rocking chair; air conditioner (it gets very muggy at night); beach towels; and of course Sebastian the concierge (so nice!) I wish Andrew had lounge chairs at the pool. The chairs were not comfortable to sunbathe so you had to lay on ground and you couldn't see the ocean. The major negative? The vacation ended too quickly! Thank you Andrew and all the staff for a lovely time.

Andy's place is PARADISE. I came with a group of 5 and we loved its gorgeous sunsets, close proximity to the beach, and Sebastian's assistance with booking activities/restaurant recommendations. We hope to come back soon! Thank you Andy and Sebastian!

Andrews home is nothing short of amazing. About 1000 ft. above the Pacific in the jungle of Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. The sunsets were spectacular, and the surf pounding the shore sounded like it was in the back yard. Our suite was 25 feet above the jungle floor; spacious, clean, and views you have to see to believe. When we return to Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, we need not look any further than a return trip to this amazing. Thanks for having us- Pura Vida!

If we ever find ourselves in Santa Teresa again, there is no need to search for another place to stay. It doesn't get better than the Sunset Reef Suite in the Surf Vista Villa. The view from our lanai was unbeatable and the town of Sant Teresa itself was awesome. The sunsets from both the beach and the balcony were absolutely stunning. Andy and Cota were gracious hosts and made us feel comfortable right from the get go. Loved every minute of the stay.

I've lived in lake tahoe since 1991 and have since grown quite attached to the outdoors . after many years in the snow my desire to be near the ocean grew stronger . after many trips to maui , kauai , and costa rica I found mal pais/santa teresa and never left . it's such a special place . the people , beaches , restaurants , culture and waves are very hard to beat .
