  • Our stay was great- Andrew gave us some ideas of things to do and his place is just as pretty as the pictures!

  • Everything looked nearly exactly as the pictures showed, just some different furniture here and there. The view is stunning, I feel no words can do this country justice. Getting up the mountain is a bit difficult, so have a vehicle ready. There's a small parking area just off the driveway. Andy rents his ATVs and boards out. There's two quads to rent, and a 10 to 15 boards to choose from, long and short ones. He's also very informative about the area, even other towns. He has a couple dogs, Dexter and Hamoa, both friendly and curious.

In conclusion, this is well worth the money, a veritable oasis among an idyllic vacation spot, or abode. Definitely will go back, great surf at both Playa Santa Teresa and Playa Hermosa by the way.

  • This place is magical! Monkeys, parrots and the most amazing sunsets ever. Andy and his crew provided top notch accommodations along with personal touches like arranging tours and making suggestions for how best to get the most from our time in CR. The road up to the Villa does require a quad or 4-wheel drive vehicle but it is totally worth the effort. I look forward to coming back again next winter.

Thanks Andy and Crystal for making it a vacation to remember :)

  • Andy's place was just amazing. He did such a nice job putting creating a very special and beautiful place. The view was magnificent. Outside my door there was a well equipped kitchen and a very pretty sitting area which is shared with other guests. A bit more private (sort of) was a hammock and sitting area for my suite overlooking the pacific which is where I view the sun set each night. This area, even though I think was designated for me, was a walk through area for other guests to get to their room so,it wasn't actually as private as I would have liked. The living space was very roomy, clean and nicely decorated. There were 3 queen sized beds and a futon couch and sitting area, as well as a private bath. It had a very warm and cozy yet spacious feel to it. On 2 sides of this room there were large windows or sliding glass doors which made it so light and wonderfully exposed to the elements. Absolutely delightful if it weren't for the fact that the other guests were so close by and so I felt the need to keep the curtains drawn much of the time at night. I choose the bed right in the corner of two very large window so, when I woke I had only to lift my head and see out to the ocean below. Again this was very nice but that meant that when I was in bed at night there were people walking by my window looking (maybe) directly into my bed. The place has a fantastic view but of course to get that view you need to drive very far up this mountainside on an extremely rutted and scary road. I did get used to it a bit, as Andy said I would, but it ain't for sissy'(website hidden) may have been less daunting if I had a 4 wheel drive car. I would highly recommend Andy's place to anyone wanting to find a rare and comfy place in Santa Teresa. His staff, Crystal and Juan were great. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Thanks to you all for a really nice stay. I would recommend the Sunset Reef Suite instead of the Roca Mar Suite, if privacy is an issue to you, as it was for me.

  • This place was amazing... I'd stay again in a heartbeat. The view is phenomenal. The wildlife is right outside your window and you're away from the dusty street. The host can help you set up tours and has done a great job keeping the place maintained.

  • I highly recommend Surf Vista Villas! It was everything that we had hoped for and more. We stayed in the Roca Mar Suite and it was spacious, comfortable, and exactly as portrayed in the photos. Andy is an amazing host and he was crucial in helping us to plan our fun outings. He even had an ATV that we were able to rent and get around town with. The view from deck is priceless and the sunsets are out of this world. We will definitely be staying here again in the future.

Thanks Andy you are the BEST!!!

  • If you go to Santa Teresa/Mal Pais you'll wanna stay at Surf Vista Villas! So many good reasons! For one Andy is cool as hell, you'll get the best view in town plus you're outta the dust from the main road and outta the extreme heat cuz of the ocean breeze. Monkeys hangin in trees right off the deck. It's conveniently located just up the hill from a grocery store and across from the beach. My wife and I stayed in the Roca Mar suite and it was huge and spacious with AC which you'll want after a long day if surfing and chillin at the beach.

  • Surf Vista Villas is the best place to stay in Santa Teresa bar none. Having traveled extensively throughout the world, I don’t think I’ve seen a view that rivals the one on the upper deck of the Surf Vista Villas. Andy is a total gem- friendly, professional and armed with a ton of recommendations on anything you might be interested in doing from horseback riding to sailing. The rooms are ideal for one to three adults and it’s a total hoot living in the trees amongst the howler monkeys. Andy was kind enough to allow us to pick fresh herbs from his garden; we were particularly keen on the lemongrass and cilantro. Juan, the grounds keeper brought us fresh plantains and some of the women next door shared some star fruit they picked near the villas. My friends and I are healthy and into athletics and enjoyed walking up and down the hill each day, sometimes twice a day- it is a full on cardio experience. If you are less athletically inclined I recommend hitting Andy up for an ATV or renting a car/motorcycle. Having said that, if you’re fit you might enjoy the workout as much as we did. We did not find a car necessary. If you’re traveling during the dry season, bring ski goggles and a bandana or surgical mask (all the locals wear them) as the roads are pretty dusty and you can probably order the stuff cheap on ebay or get them in your hometown. Thank you Andy for providing the space for the trip of a lifetime, look forward to staying there again.

LTCC , south lake tahoe , ca
I've lived in lake tahoe since 1991 and have since grown quite attached to the outdoors . after many years in the snow my desire to be near the ocean grew stronger . after many trips to maui , kauai , and costa rica I found mal pais/santa teresa and never left . it's such a special place . the people , beaches , restaurants , culture and waves are very hard to beat .
