About This Listing
The Chestnuts is a traditional guest house with loads of warmth and charm. Offering all the modern comforts but still keeping the character of a Victorian home. It is located in a quiet corner, a short walk from either Windermere or Bowness village.
The Chestnuts has seven very comfortable double bedrooms which all have en suite bathrooms. Two rooms have standard 5ft double beds, four rooms have 5ft four-poster bed and one room has a bed which can either be two single beds or a 6ft bed.
All our rooms are en suite, some with a bath as well as a shower. We provide hairdryers, TV with dvd player and tea/coffee making facilities in all rooms. Our four-poster rooms also have bath robes.
We have a charming dining room which also has a small lounge area where guests are served complimentary tea/coffee on arrival.
Our breakfast is tailored to you, whether it be a full English, vegetarian or smoked salmon! Guests are given their own key so that they have access to the guest house and their room at all times.
Breakfast is served between 8.30 and 9.15am although earlier breakfasts can be arranged.
Interaction with Guests
We can provide advice on walks and any other activities which may be of interest. We can direct you to the best restaurants and pubs of which there are many to choose from in Windermere, Bowness and the surrounding area.
Many of our guests love that we are only a ten minute stroll to either Bowness village, which is by the lake, or Windermere village. Being located in the southern area of the Lake District National park we are only a short drive away from some of the most popular walks and attractions.
There is a good public transport system as well as very good guided tour operators.
Windermere railway station is a fifteen minute walk from the guest house.
We have our own, on site, car park.

Check out is no later than 10.30am.
There is no smoking throughout the guest house but guests are welcome to smoke in the garden.
Sorry, but we do not accept pets or children under 8 years old.
What a wonderful B and B. Heather and Nigel were such lovely hosts. Welcomed us with a cup of tea, which was needed after a long drive up from London. The breakfasts were delicious and so well presented (especially the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs). A lot of choice for breakfast both hot and cold. The room was large and warm and beautifully presented. Coffee and tea in the room, and the en suite was nice too. All in all a great stay. Location is good right in between Windermere and Bowness and close to bus stops. Parking on sight too.
My boyfriend and I enjoyed a lovely stay at Chestnuts B&B. We were given advice as to where was best to eat and where was best to spend our day. The room was immaculate and the B&B itself is in the most perfect location - walking distance to everything. The breakfast was great the next morning too. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend to others.
Very good view and shinny stars! Delicious breakfast!
The whole experience is great!!! Room is as expected, not very big, but warm and adorable. English breakfast is provided and good as well. Anyway, it is strongly recommended.

About the Host, Heather
I have lived in Windermere for over twenty years apart from a brief stay in London. Brief because I missed the colour green and clean air! We live in a beautiful part of the world and we try very hard not to take it for granted.
This is my third guest house and I have run The Chestnuts, with my partner Nigel, for over four years and we still enjoy it! The building was built in the late 1800's and we have tried to retain as many traditional features as possible.
I love walking my dogs, swimming and my new hobby - geocaching!
