About this listing
The Chestnuts is a traditional guest house with loads of warmth and charm. Offering all the modern comforts but still keeping the character of a Victorian home. It is located in a quiet corner, a short walk from either Windermere or Bowness village.
The Chestnuts has seven very comfortable double bedrooms which all have en suite bathrooms. Two rooms have standard 5ft double beds, four rooms have 5ft four-poster bed and one room has a bed which can either be two single beds or a 6ft bed.
All our rooms are en suite, some with a bath as well as a shower. We provide hairdryers, TV with dvd player and tea/coffee making facilities in all rooms. Our four-poster rooms also have bath robes.
We have a charming dining room which also has a small lounge area where guests are served complimentary tea/coffee on arrival.
Our breakfast is tailored to you, whether it be a full English, vegetarian or smoked salmon! Guests are given their own key so that they have access to the guest house and their room at all times.
Breakfast is served between 8.30 and 9.15am although earlier breakfasts can be arranged.
Interaction with Guests
We can provide advice on walks and any other activities which may be of interest. We can direct you to the best restaurants and pubs of which there are many to choose from in Windermere, Bowness and the surrounding area.
Many of our guests love that we are only a ten minute stroll to either Bowness village, which is by the lake, or Windermere village. Being located in the southern area of the Lake District National park we are only a short drive away from some of the most popular walks and attractions.
There is a good public transport system as well as very good guided tour operators.
Windermere railway station is a fifteen minute walk from the guest house.
We have our own, on site, car park.

There is no smoking throughout the guest house but guests are welcome to smoke in the garden.
Sorry, but we do not accept pets or children under 8 years old.
Heather was great. She responded to our last minute booking promptly and made us feel very welcome. The room was centrally located in Windermere and had all the everything we needed (comfy bed, clean towels, wifi, parking, a lovely ensuite set up and delicious breakfast). My boyfriend and I would definitely stay there again for future trips to the Lake District.
Heather was very pleasant and made us feel very welcome. The house was perfectly placed between Windermere and Bowess which made it very convenient. The rooms were clean and neat. Liked the little bear on the bed-a homey touch! Heather recommended a little pub called 'Hole in Wall' which was delightful!! We enjoyed watching 'Miss Potter' DVD when we returned from going to Hilltop Farm. Loved the whole experience!
Really loved this nice b&b in Windermere, we stayed in the top floor's triangle roof room, which is really nice and cosy, the scenery and sunshine just leaping in from the inclined window, made us just don't want to get out. Also, Heather's really nice and helpful, just explained to us everything and gave us a lot of guidance, so will definitely recommend to other guests!
Very cozy and welcoming house, good location, and every facility is organized. The traditional English breakfast is very nice as well. Even here's some DVDs available for people like me addict to movie. My girlfriend and I satisfy everything in Heather's place. It's really worth to stay if planning to hang around in lake district.
We stayed at Chestnuts B&B for 1 night as we were at a wedding in Bowness. The room was perfect for us and the breakfast in the morning was great too! Will be staying here again next time we are in Windermere!
What a wonderful B and B. Heather and Nigel were such lovely hosts. Welcomed us with a cup of tea, which was needed after a long drive up from London. The breakfasts were delicious and so well presented (especially the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs). A lot of choice for breakfast both hot and cold. The room was large and warm and beautifully presented. Coffee and tea in the room, and the en suite was nice too. All in all a great stay. Location is good right in between Windermere and Bowness and close to bus stops. Parking on sight too.

About the Host, Heather
I have lived in Windermere for over twenty years apart from a brief stay in London. Brief because I missed the colour green and clean air! We live in a beautiful part of the world and we try very hard not to take it for granted.
This is my third guest house and I have run The Chestnuts, with my partner Nigel, for over four years and we still enjoy it! The building was built in the late 1800's and we have tried to retain as many traditional features as possible.
I love walking my dogs, swimming and my new hobby - geocaching!
