We enjoyed our stay at Gusde's place very much, it contributed a lot to our Bali/Ubud experience. The house is authentic in its construction, the view from the room on the rice field is amazing, and in the morning you will wake up by the singing of birds which live, also typical of Bali, in the compound's court. Then, a stunning balinese breakfast is served -we tasted something different every morning, besides the plate of fresh fruit. The house is not very close to Ubud (10min by car), but the very friendly staff provides a daily shuttle service. Since we were the only guests we could even chose the hour. Gusde is a great host, very friendly, open for interesting talks and ready to explain his culture. He also has a very good restaurant ("Bali Pesto") in the center of Ubud. Everything was great, we really recommend Gusde's place!
It was such a great time to stay in Gusde's real bali style house. The room is just clean and perfect for its price. It has such a nice rice field view. The location is a bit away from Ubud center, but Gusde offered full free pickup services to the town. Since my flight was at midnight, Gusde kidnly allowed me to stay and leave our stuff in the room after check out time. I really appreciate that. He and his staffs' English was fluent enough to communicate. I can truly recommend Gusde and his friend to my friends who want to explore Ubud.
Gusde and his wonderful family and driver Wayan made my holiday so much richer. The guest room in their family compound is charming and cleaned every day. It is beautifully set against rice paddies at the rear with busy Balinese life in the front. It looks exactly like the photos.
I broke my wrist on day four of two weeks. Gusde arranged for quick access to a specialist in Denpasar who was brilliant and Wayan stayed with me during hours of procedures etc. their kindness was very welcome. If you need a bit of looking after in your holiday you will get it here. Gusde and family are willing to share Balinese culture and this was a highlight for me. Thank you everyone. I enjoyed your lovely home very much Gusde and Putri. :)
Due to a personal emergency after I had arrived on vacation in Bali, I had to cancel my stay at Gusde's home in Ubud the day I had intended to check in at this guest home. From the time I made my booking on Airbnb, Gusde was very responsive and prompt in our email communications. He was very understanding and gracious when I did have to cancel. I sadly regret that I was unable to visit Ubud during this trip to Bali, as I was so looking forward to experiencing a stay with Gusde's family.
We stayed at Gusde's home in the town of Mas for a full week in mid December 2013. Gusde and his family were very warm and friendly. The layout of a Balinese home is very special, with separate stand-alone structures at each of the 4 orientations, one of which was the guesthouse for me and my girlfriend. Everything was covered in intricate wood carvings, from the doors to the windows and the furniture-- which makes sense since Mas seems to be home to artisan wood and glass workers. We had fresh fruit and smoothies served every morning for breakfast, with a variety of Balinese and Western cuisines.
Gusde also introduced us to Wayan, who gave us the complimentary rides into Ubud (tourist center), and who we ended up hiring to take us to nearby towns and temples. Wayan was quite knowledgeable about Balinese culture and very accommodating with our whims.
We highly recommend staying at Gusde's home! And check out his restaurant too!
During my Bali trip I stayed two nights at the Balinese House new Ubud. It was a great pleasure getting to know Gusde and his family and staying in the original balinese house which is beautiful! Because of the offered shuttle the short distance to Ubud is no problem. Wayan, who was taking care about the shuttle service, is a very friendly person, who knew the culture and the country very good. I learned a lot from him about Bali and Balinese people and saw many beautiful places of Bali with him. The breakfast was very nice and the room as well. the rice field is directly behind the house, what makes it even more special. It was a very special and wonderful time.
We spent 2 nights at Gusde's house during our stay in Ubud. The house is very comfortable inside a real Balinese compound with a bed overlooking the rice fields. Gusde is a very good host sharing insights about his culture with you, I really enjoyed our breakfast chats with him.
The house is like 15 minutes drive from center of Ubud but theres a free shuttle taking you in downtown and back so you never feel away from the center.
We loved our stay at Gusde's place and highly reccommend it!
I chose the new and clean balinese house because my friend and I wanted to experience real balinese lifestyles. We wanted to immerse ourselves within the culture, the people, the customs and Gusde and his family of hospitable hosts did not disappoint. In fact, they're efforts to make our stay the most memorable was far beyond our expectations. Many had said Ubud is a place to visit, not a place to stay. My friend and I will strongly deny that claim. Ubud/Mas is absolutely necessary in your visit to Bali, it is the most tranquil and the most cultural amongst all places in Bali. Most families in Mas come from artist backgrounds and our family were woodcarvers. The streets of Mas are lined with various galleries from woodcarving, to painting, to basket weeves to glass blowing. We entered our home through a woodcarving gallery to get to our room, which beautifully overlooked a vast rice paddy field. Speaking of rice paddies, Gusde took us on an unforgettable cycling adventure through some of the most beautiful rice paddies in the areas. I can't say I didn't get my feet dirty, there was a surprise route that led us through a narrow path permitting nothing more than the width of your bicycle tire. Gusde warned us not to fall in, and of course i'm the first to do so.. story of my life. But a great adventure nevertheless. Gusde and his family also welcomed us to one of thier ceremonies. We got sarongs and his wife taught us how to wear them before introducing us to one of the most rewarding experiences of our trip in Bali. The family was so hospitable and had no complaints about our presence, they were very nice and allowed us to share with them the culture they have so much pride in . It was truly enlightening and beautiful in so many ways. I can go on and on about how amazing a trip Bali was, but ultimately if there was one place i'd go back to, it would be Mas, Ubud to stay with Gusde and his family. If you're looking for a different type of experience, they have other options of housing for you to chose from as well. But take advantage of everything they have to offer if you can, there's so much you can learn from this wonderful family.
Thank you again Gusde and family!
Gusde house is an authentic Balinese family compound, and one of the most beautiful I've seen during my stay in the Island. The room is clean and quiet, and we had total privacy during our stay. Breakfast was really good, and our room was cleaned and the bed made every morning after we left to go explore the island. Better and warmer service than many of the hotels I've stayed worldwide. Mr. Ida and his wife are a lovely couple. Very attentive and respecting our space and pace. Gusde gave us great tips on places to visit, and made our stay even better by telling local stories and teaching us more about the local culture. He and his wife promptly helped us to arrange bicycle and motorbike rental, among other things. The helpers and drivers where extremely helpful and courteous. Central Ubud is just overcrowded. This is the place to stay!
In the map they showed a house in the center of ubud but actuallly it is located in the vilage of mas... They say it was a mistake and they were not able to change it... I refused to stay there and the owner gave me back all the money...
