We had the privilege of staying at The Most Beautiful Balinese house in the village of Mas, Ubud in June 2014 for a period of one week. Believe me when I say that this place is magical, for the beautiful sculptures and Balinese artwork are all over the place and you will feel like you are in a palace with the king as your host. Tune into the sound of the birds (caged though/and I did not have the guts to let set them free/ and if you can ignore this omission) you can have a hint of what paradise feels like.
Gusde and his family made us feel very welcome and part of their family. He is a humble host who is actively involved in his community's welfare. Don't be afraid to strike an intellectual conversation with this gentleman for he has seen a thing or two.
This place will charge your batteries and make you feel completely decompressed. It is a few kilometres away from Ubud but it would take the host only a few minutes to arrange a free transport every time we needed one.
If you want to experience a true Balinese atmosphere look no where else.
Thank you Dear Gusde and your family.
Our host Gusde and family are very hospitable. I really enjoyed the conversation with Gusde and to understand more about the Balinese culture. The experience was amazing when we actually lived in a Balinese Compound together with the host and his family. The house is beautifully crafted and clean. The helpers really showed us the warmth spirit of Balinese. Transportation is provided to Ubud Centre which is about 10 minutes away and we can also catch transport back from Gusde's restaurant. Myself and my fiancee really enjoyed the whole experience and we will definitely come back to stay in Ubud again.
We stayed at Gusde's house for 3 nights and had a very pleasant time. Gusde and his team were very attentive and considerate about our well-being. The breakfast offered was simply great and so was the room. We can definitely recommend Gusde's home for a authentic experience in a traditional Balinese compound.
The stay with Gusde was pleasant. He and his family are courteous hosts and the staff were very helpful. He also suggested to us some amazing non-touristy places (which is what I was interested in) and the Bali experience was so much better because of his suggestions.
The location of the house is pretty good. When we stayed there, there was a hospital, a mart, snack houses and other utility places at walking distance from the house. It is close to Ubud which is an emblematic cultural center of Bali, and is also very green with rivers/forests/paddy fields all over.
The house itself is quite beautiful - with ornate carvings all over amidst trees and shrubs and a paddy field at its back. A good number of birds visit the house/fields all day long.
All in all, a great stay in a balinese house. I would recommend it to anybody interested in an authentic Bali experience.
This little guesthouse is tucked away behind a wood carving shop. The room is clean and basic. The bathroom a little tired but functional. Lovely breakfast in ornate surrounds. We thought we were staying in Ubud, and this guest house is about 10 mins out of town. If you want to go anywhere though, Gusde can organise it for you. Interesting to stay in a genuine balinese compound/home.
We enjoyed our stay at Gusde's place very much, it contributed a lot to our Bali/Ubud experience. The house is authentic in its construction, the view from the room on the rice field is amazing, and in the morning you will wake up by the singing of birds which live, also typical of Bali, in the compound's court. Then, a stunning balinese breakfast is served -we tasted something different every morning, besides the plate of fresh fruit. The house is not very close to Ubud (10min by car), but the very friendly staff provides a daily shuttle service. Since we were the only guests we could even chose the hour. Gusde is a great host, very friendly, open for interesting talks and ready to explain his culture. He also has a very good restaurant ("Bali Pesto") in the center of Ubud. Everything was great, we really recommend Gusde's place!
It was such a great time to stay in Gusde's real bali style house. The room is just clean and perfect for its price. It has such a nice rice field view. The location is a bit away from Ubud center, but Gusde offered full free pickup services to the town. Since my flight was at midnight, Gusde kidnly allowed me to stay and leave our stuff in the room after check out time. I really appreciate that. He and his staffs' English was fluent enough to communicate. I can truly recommend Gusde and his friend to my friends who want to explore Ubud.
Gusde and his wonderful family and driver Wayan made my holiday so much richer. The guest room in their family compound is charming and cleaned every day. It is beautifully set against rice paddies at the rear with busy Balinese life in the front. It looks exactly like the photos.
I broke my wrist on day four of two weeks. Gusde arranged for quick access to a specialist in Denpasar who was brilliant and Wayan stayed with me during hours of procedures etc. their kindness was very welcome. If you need a bit of looking after in your holiday you will get it here. Gusde and family are willing to share Balinese culture and this was a highlight for me. Thank you everyone. I enjoyed your lovely home very much Gusde and Putri. :)
Due to a personal emergency after I had arrived on vacation in Bali, I had to cancel my stay at Gusde's home in Ubud the day I had intended to check in at this guest home. From the time I made my booking on Airbnb, Gusde was very responsive and prompt in our email communications. He was very understanding and gracious when I did have to cancel. I sadly regret that I was unable to visit Ubud during this trip to Bali, as I was so looking forward to experiencing a stay with Gusde's family.
We stayed at Gusde's home in the town of Mas for a full week in mid December 2013. Gusde and his family were very warm and friendly. The layout of a Balinese home is very special, with separate stand-alone structures at each of the 4 orientations, one of which was the guesthouse for me and my girlfriend. Everything was covered in intricate wood carvings, from the doors to the windows and the furniture-- which makes sense since Mas seems to be home to artisan wood and glass workers. We had fresh fruit and smoothies served every morning for breakfast, with a variety of Balinese and Western cuisines.
Gusde also introduced us to Wayan, who gave us the complimentary rides into Ubud (tourist center), and who we ended up hiring to take us to nearby towns and temples. Wayan was quite knowledgeable about Balinese culture and very accommodating with our whims.
We highly recommend staying at Gusde's home! And check out his restaurant too!
