Room in a beautiful apartment with a lot of light, plants and a lovely cat! Share kitchen/sitting area, bathroom. Family-oriented building. Looking for intern/fellow/resident for one to six months. Active classical pianist.

The space

Prewar building with high ceilings, large bedroom/living area for guest. Guest room next to bath. Family oriented building. Quite, safe.

Guest access

Laundry, bathroom. Kitchen access, sitting area with tv when available. Visitors may be considered but not guaranteed. No overnight guests.

Interaction with guests

Ok to socialize, share meals if there is a similar interest. Ok to be private, but because this is my home and not a hotel, it will be necessary to have periodic communications about schedules, upkeep of the house, etc.

Other things to note

I love living here. The beauty is incredible. It is peaceful here. I am a professional pianist and composer. This means that I will be using my studio in the house for practice. If you love beautiful music such as Chopin and Bach and don't mind hearing scales and repetitive practice you will love it. My neighbors love it and most guests like to have it in the background. The main space may be used while I am working as long as it does not interfere.

My stay with Chris was a memorable one. I stayed at her place for an extended duration. I was originally slated to stay for a couple months, but then when I needed more time she was gracious enough to let me extend my stay until the time came when I found an apartment. This is not the sort of accommodation you will find at most places, and says a great deal about how wonderful of a host she is. Her place itself is quiet, spacious, and welcoming. She was respectful of my privacy at the same time that a genuine effort was made to make me feel at home. She is also very knowledgeable about Brooklyn and New York City in general, so if you are new to the area she can be extremely helpful. Don’t forget about express buses! The room itself is incredibly spacious, larger than most rooms you will find in NYC and Brooklyn. Granted I did not bring a lot of stuff, but the room was amazing for professional and personal work. The area itself is quiet and peaceful. You are five minutes away from the river, and get a clear view of the Verrazano Bridge. The walkway along the water is beautiful, as is most of Bay Ridge itself, which feels more like a village than a city. The commute to Manhattan, while long, is also convenient. You will always get a seat (first stop on the R train) and for someone like me this provided an opportunity to get 45-50 min of sketching done prior to the start of the work day, something I could not have done if I had gotten on a train at a closer stop, already packed like a sardine can, and then been forced to stand. On a more personal level she is a welcoming and caring person, and also a very talented artist and musician. We had many great conversations about art, music and literature. Our shared appreciation for these topics made for not only a pleasant stay, but also one that I will remember and appreciate. This is not something you can say about all places, and it is something I myself value very much. I highly recommend her place, and would stay there again. Oh and her cat Thelma is awesome as well.

Response from Chris:
Thank you so much Justin. That is very kind of you. I forgot to mention the cat. She did know how to entertain, get things to lighten up after a frustrating day at work and be part of the conversation! Talk to you soon.

I would like to say that staying with Chris was absolutely amazing. I had such a great time living with someone with such an open heart. Chris is very knowledgeable about the city. We explored Brooklyn together on the weekends. She has the cutest cat named Thelma who is super nice and sweet. I would definitely say my Airbnb experience with Chris was phenomenal. The apartment room is so spacious and nicely decorated. The bathroom is super cute. The kitchen is well organized and nice. You will enjoy the free concerts with Chris on the piano at times. Airbnb has found a gem with Chris.

I loved my time in the city with Chris! She is a fantastic housemate for anyone who is unfamiliar with the city, as she will give you great advice on the best ways to travel, the best sites to see, and the best places to eat. She will help you make the most of your experience in New York. And the room is a wonderful space--exactly as depicted in the photographs, fully furnished, and spacious. The area is safe and beautiful, and it's only about an hour ride into downtown Manhattan on the subway. I would definitely recommend living with Chris!

I stayed with Chris for two months this summer, and she was fabulous! Everything listed in her description is exactly as expected, and she is so welcoming. I had such a wonderful stay, and cannot recommend her enough. The neighborhood is really beautiful, and the park across with street has a lovely view of the bay. Chris was a great roommate, and a forever friend! Thoughtful, with indispensable advice about the city, she offered an environment I was happy to come home to everyday after work. The room is large with a comfortable bed, and quiet with good airflow. Though some may view the listing as lacking due to no air conditioning, I always felt comfortable in the apartment, as the bay breeze would add circulation and the shady area offered no direct sunlight. I would not let the lack of air conditioning hold you back from staying here! The only appearance that differs in the photographs in the listing is that the plants are much larger now! I loved coming home to such a green space, it felt like a little secret garden. The apartment is about a ten minute walk from the last stop on the R train, which will take you into the city and other stations to transfer trains. There is also a grocery store along the way, so it was great to stop in to grab supplies for dinner after getting off the train in the evening. I loved my time staying with Chris in Bay Ridge, where I always felt safe at my home away from home. We shared wonderful meals together, and a fun weekend at Coney Island. If I come back to Brooklyn, I will definitely be staying with her again! Thank you so much Chris!

Staying with Chris over the summer was great! A large room with solid ventilation options to beat the summer heat. Additionally, Chris was very friendly and welcoming throughout my stay. Would highly recommend!

I recently stayed with Chris during a month long rotation at Lutheran Hospital. Chris is an excellent host! She is very welcoming and helped me become acclimated to living/working in Brooklyn. I was very pleased with the accommodations: spacious bedroom, nice bathroom, clean kitchen etc. The neighborhood is safe and has tons of great restaurants. Very close to bus and the R train. I was very pleased with my stay and would not hesitate to recommend this room to anyone. Thank you Chris!
