Room in a beautiful apartment with a lot of light, plants. Share kitchen/sitting area, bathroom. Family-oriented building. Looking for intern/fellow/resident for one to six months. Active classical pianist.
Prewar building with high ceilings, large bedroom/living area for guest. Guest room next to bath. Family oriented building. Quite, safe.
Laundry, bathroom. Kitchen access, sitting area with tv when available. Visitors may be considered but not guaranteed. No overnight guests.
Interaction with Guests
Ok to socialize, share meals if there is a similar interest. Ok to be private, but because this is my home and not a hotel, it will be necessary to have periodic communications about schedules, upkeep of the house, etc.
Clean, quiet and safe. It is right by a park and the water with a long path for walking, biking or jogging. The air is fresh. This is a nice place to get away from the noise, pollution and crowds. Easy travel to Brooklyn arts areas and Manhattan. There are multi-ethnic groceries and restaurants within walking distance.
Groceries, shopping, restaurants within walking distance. Trains and buses lead to all parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan. Xpress bus to Manhattan right at building. Closer to Park Slope, Gowanus, lower Manhattan, Union Square. Furthest from Queens, Bronx, Harlem, Upper East Side, Bushwick. Since New York is so big, most people commute an hour or more in New York. Commute is easiest if you are on the same train line or near an express train.
Other Things to Note
I love living here. The beauty is incredible. It is peaceful here. I am a professional pianist and composer. This means that I will be using my studio in the house for practice. If you love beautiful music such as Chopin and Bach and don't mind hearing scales and repetitive practice you will love it. My neighbors love it and most guests like to have it in the background. The main space may be used while I am working as long as it does not interfere.
Only one person may rent the room.
No pets, drugs, excessive drinking, smoking or loud noise late at night or when I am working.
Mail service is not included, however may be considered on an “as needed basis."
It is requested that the guest remove shoes upon entering the apartment.
Shower may be used at any time, but may need to be coordinated on occasion. The guest may use any supplies available in the bathroom as needed.
A laundry card and hypo-allergenic laundry supplies will be provided. Supplies will need to be replaced with extensive use.
Linens and towels are provided. Whites will be washed by tenant upon request as a courtesy.
Basic food supplies such as condiments, teas and spices may be used by the guest, and must be replaced if used frequently.
It is requested that all food in spaces provided be completely sealed. A separate area, pots and utensils will be provided for meat.
It is requested that all food remain in the kitchen and dining room in an effort to reduce the potential for infestations of bugs or rodents.
All other belongings must remain in bathroom or guest's bedroom except shoes.
The cleaning fee is for preparations prior to rental. The guest is responsible for cleaning up after himself during his stay in their room and in all common areas.
Additional cleaning and laundry fees may be required if deemed necessary.
It is requested that the guest restrain from loud sounds in any areas of the apartment or public areas or the building that may interfere with the peace or well-being of the tenant or neighbors.
It is requested that the guest must be especially mindful of loud activities such as walking with shoes, moving furniture, slamming doors or loud talking in the bedroom late at night or early in the morning.
The guest may not knock on the walls of neighbors or intentionally disturb neighbors in any way, as this is legally considered harassment.
If there are any complaints the guest may have regarding neighbors or the apartment, the guest may bring these complaints to the attention of the tenant, but may not contact others in the building, the landlord or their representatives to address the complaint.
It is requested that the guest watch for leaks in the apartment while the tenant is away.
All windows and the main door of the apartment must be locked when nobody is in the apartment for safety purposes.
Measures to avoid damage to any furniture or floor must be taken. Coasters and covers will be provided as needed.
No additional furniture may be brought into the apartment by guest.
The tenant reserves the right to enter the guest bedroom for any reason. Prior notice will be given unless there is a reason such as turning off a fan or in the event of an emergency.
All areas used by the guest must be broom clean and arranged to its original state at the end of stay unless otherwise agreed upon. Bedding must be removed and washed prior to departure unless otherwise agreed upon.
Keys must be handed directly to the tenant at the end of stay.
Certain violations of this agreement may result in forfeiture of the security deposit. Violations may include, but are not limited to violence of any sort, threat or disturbance toward the tenant or any person in the apartment or building, destruction or negligence of any property in the apartment or building, or any actions that may put the tenant's health, safety, wellbeing or tenancy at risk.
Proof of identity and signed agreement with all terms and house rules are required upon entering the apartment. A copy of guest's I.D. will be kept on file for the landlord and tenant.
One set of keys will be provided and may not be copied.
