About This Listing
Character home one mile from downtown Appleton, just a few minutes from the highway, in a quiet neighborhood with off street parking. Non smoking.
Your private bedroom has one queen bed (the Tempurpedic Cloud Luxe Breeze is UNBELIEVABLE!) and, our favorite for chilly weather: a heated mattress pad! Closet and dresser space will be made available for your stay. No private bathroom--shared with us, but we will be flexible and work around your schedule.
Shared spaces include:
- Formal dining room that seats six.
- Formal living room with no television.
- One bathroom with tub and shower and additional heating element in the ceiling fan/vent.
- Kitchen including a dishwasher and garbage disposal, but with no microwave (rather, a tea pot for heating water and a toaster oven for nearly everything else).
- Washer and dryer (detergent and dryer sheets available) in an unfinished basement.
- Covered (but not enclosed) front porch with furniture (when in season).
- Modest backyard with small patio area.
Password protected wireless high speed internet, but no cable television, and centrally located window air conditioning units (seasonal). We love to host and look forward to meeting you!
You'll have access to our whole house except for the spare bedroom (not shown), which is where we will be staying while you're with us.
Interaction with Guests
We will be living in the home during your stay, but also try to be respectful of your space and schedule while you're with us.
The level of interaction is up to you. We've had guests who spend their down time with us (we love to learn their stories) and others who prefer to be more on their own schedule--we're completely fine with either!
The neighborhood is near to downtown Appleton, Lawrence University, The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, as well as some of our favorite restaurants, Kat-su-ya (Sushi and Hibachi), Cena (Mediterranean food) and The Appleton Beer Factory (gourmet pub food).
Very near to our house are other favorites Basil Cafe (Vietnamese food), Happy Bellies (a gluten free bakery) and, for a nice little walk on hot summer nights...Dairy Queen.
Other favorites are just a short drive away: Gather (a farm-to-table Americana restaurant), All Seasons Coffee and The Stone Cellar (local brewery with gourmet pub food).
Also nearby is Erb park, with a public pool.
Other Things to Note
Our dog, Wrigley, is a Cockapoo Dachshund mix. He's full of personality and LOVES attention. Get your hearts ready for plenty of melting.
No smoking (including on the front porch), please respect our home and belongings.
Staying with Beth and Mark was truly like a home away from home. They were both so respectful of our time and space even though we were in their home. They let us arrive early even though they had to step out for the evening, and they had no complaints with us coming back late after a Sunday night Packers game. They gave us our space, but were also friendly, chatty, warm, and welcoming around the breakfast table. Beth even bought us milk and cinnamon rolls for breakfast on Sunday morning, which was *perfect* for a long day of tailgating and football.
Additionally, the room (and whole house) was exceptionally clean and comfortable. Everything was laid out for us just as if we were in a hotel. The Tempurpedic bed was amazing. We slept very well after a long weekend, which made our 12.5 hour drive back to Kansas much easier than expected.
We would gladly stay with Beth and Mark again.
Incredible spot in Appleton. If you are staying in Appleton you must stay with Beth and Mark. Very comfy and the room is great. Beth and Mark are amazing hosts.
Beth and Mark were awesome hosts and they both made us feel very comfortable! The house and room were spotlessly clean with some excellent vintage style. They had a puppy named Wrigley who was also super friendly. The shared bathroom was not an issue at all. Great experience all around.
When we looked at the other reviews the word delightful came up, and that perfectly describes our experience of Beth, Mark and their home. The home is lovely, very, very clean and welcoming. They have a wonderful mix of being respectful of our privacy and engaging with us. We were dropping off our daughter to Lawrence U. and their home was a very convenient distance away. They were great resources about Appleton. Our last morning there Beth made an incredible breakfast. We were very happy with our experience with them and their home.
We were there for a coupe days for ur son's wedding. It was a very nice place to stay, Mark and Beth are delightful and sharingpeople. For some reason we thought it had a private bath room, it didn't but it worked out just fine. Laurie
Beth and Mark have a beautifully restored 101 year old home. Tastefully furnished and decorated, and comfortable. No desk in bedroom, but plenty of space in living room for working on your laptop . Free wifi. Having to share the (very clean) bathroom was a concern, but ultimately not a problem. Hosts are both conscientious.

About the Host, Beth
My husband, Mark and I are both self-employed and love a simple life. We are active and we love the outdoors. Mark can't live without his bicycle, I can't live without my camera. Both readers and musicians, our house is full of books and musical instruments, instead of television.
We love our local community and try our best to support it wherever possible. Hosting is one of our favorite things to do: we regularly have friends over for dinner or games--we very highly value relationships and community. Each of us hold respect in high regard and actively aim to put love in action through serving.
