Great experience with Secrets. We arrived very late but that was no problem. They arranged for transport from Entebbe and were there to greet us when we arrived.
It's a cute little hotel with a common eating area and banda-type rooms. Everything was clean and nicely done. Breakfast was good. Classic choice of eggs and toast or pancakes, etc. at the time of your choosing.
We didn't really take advantage of the location at all. I know it is near the lake and not far from a swimmable beach but we didn't see it ourselves. For us it was more a warm place to stay the night before heading into Kampala the next morning. The owners are very nice. Note they have more rooms than it appears on Airbnb, so don't be shy about asking to stay there if you are a larger group.
From the moment they helped me arrange transportation from the airport to the time I left, Angella and Derek were perfect hosts. Even though I arrived after midnight, their greetings were warm and charming. Secrets Guest House is a peaceful, lovely place from which to explore Entebbe. Rooms were spacious and immaculate. Shower pressure strong and the water warm. A mosquito net surrounded the bed. Wi-fi available in the comfortable living and dining area. Worry-free security. Beautiful landscaping. All of the amenities make it easy to roam around town and come to a comfortable place for dinner, conversation, and drinks if you like.
Our hosts, Derek and Angela did everything in their power to make our stay enjoyable. The theme of the site is very authentic and quaint. Full services are available including housekeeping, laundry and wifi. There is a full menu available for breakfast, lunch and dinner and Angela is a great chef. Secrets is clean, safe and very serene. I highly recommend this as a very comfortable accommodation.
We had a late flight into Entebbe and so got to the guest house almost close to 2am. Derek and Angela were there and opened the door for us. And then they welcomed us in the main lobby both at that hour happily. Derek assisted us even with carrying our suitcases to the apartment/room, then showed us around the apartment/room. From that time both Derek and Angela made us feel welcome, almost as part of their family. We enjoyed the delicious breakfasts that the great Chef Angela made for us, plus enjoyed Jayden their darling 2 year old's company with us at breakfast most times. Jayden trully brings out the child in us, thanks Jayden.
We really appreciated the fact that we had many long days, where we visited family in different cities and got back later at night, and Derek and Angie always opened the door for us without showing us that we were being a 'pain'.
We had family in a different part of Entebbe, and could have chosen afterwards to stay closer to them (since they picked us up everyday and dropped us off at the guest house at end of day), however because we really felt home away from home, and the GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE of Derek and Angie we decided to stay here for our entire stay of 10 nights. It trully gave us a break, from our fast pace of life, and their property had a serene environment, clean, quiet, and all Green!! The neighboring sounds of children, Calls to prayer, and occasional cows, pigs, and chickens was a nice reminder of Life and being surrounded by nature - which I personally love!
The site has the feel of authenic quaint Uganda -African theme, but with modern interiors - great designs!
We appreciated and enjoyed conversations with Angie and Derek. We appreciated tips you shared and provided us, and making us feel like family. Hope we made new friends in Uganda. THANK YOU!!!!
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Secrets Guest House to anyone looking for a good retreat hotel experience while in Uganda.
We had a lovely 5 night stay at Secrets. After a month in a deep village in Uganda our time there was pure luxury. Our rooms were very well appointed and the beds were extremely comfortable. Angela and Derek were very friendly, approachable and helpful. They were able to arrange transport for us when required and were very knowledgeable about the local area and services. We enjoyed many meals prepared be Angela and they were all delicious. We can recommend Secrets without hesitation.
Derek, Angela, and their young son, Jayden, were all warm and welcoming hosts. They made sure that I had everything I needed during my brief stay at Secrets Guest House en route to the airport. The food was delicious, there was good wifi, the bed was comfortable, and the hot shower had the best water pressure I've experienced yet in East Africa. I would highly recommend it to anyone passing through Entebbe.
Secrets Guest House should not be a secret! A warm welcome and a home away from home atmosphere made my stay. Angella, Derrick and Jayden were wonderful hosts ensuring we had everything we needed or wanted.
The room was spacious, extremely clean, light and airy with a fabulously large bed.
I was sorry to leave and will most definitely be back (next week maybe)
Many thanks for a great stay.
The welcome from Derek and Angie was excellent.... the room was lovely with the high vaulted ceiling keeping the room cool. Everyday the room was cleaned and breakfast offered... lots of hot water in a great shower room with lovely beds and pillows. The house is slightly out of the way but easy to find.... the compound is delightful with a seating area and a bar with TV .... great four night stay and delightful hosts. I have stayed in a number of overpriced Entebbe hotels and the Secret Guesthouse is great value and just as good or even better on service and rooms. Thank you!!!
About the Host, Secrets
Hi my name is Derek. I am a West Indian from heritage born in London UK and lived there for 40 years. I worked as a mechanic for then " Rover Group " for 7 years and as an engineer for the Fire service for 9 years before retraining to become a telecommunications engineer up until 2006 when I left for Uganda.
I met my wife in 1990 and we now have 4 children together. Family is very important to me which is why I left the UK. I needed to spend more time with my children but with long working hours between my wife and I that wasn't possible. We both love travelling and have been in many countries across the world. My wife is Ugandan by birth and speaks Luganda (one of the more popular languages here)
so we decided on building our guest house here in Uganda
We are very sociable people we love to smile / laugh and also love learning from other peoples experiences.
Having you as our guest you would feel like you are part of our family. We are very approachable so if you have any needs we will bend over backwards to meet them. We also have many friends within the tourism industry here so we can tailor make safaris and many other places of interest within Uganda to suit your budget.
My life moto is "never give up" !
