About This Listing
With its own private entrance, a great Queen-sized loft bed, and plush papasan, this cozy room can fit up to three people but is perfect for a couple. Just 3 blocks from subway. Backyard patio and garden with fire pit are a lovely summer bonus!
LOCATION: Between lush, funky Fort Greene/Clinton Hill and super-hip Williamsburg, and right below DUMBO, Bed-Stuy is the heart of Brooklyn. Our apartment is very close to the subway and several classic "bodegas" (small deli or convenience stores with food and drinks) as well as many cool, newer dining & drinking establishments: Myrtle & Marcy Cafe, Project Parlor pub, Civil Service cafe, Beast of Bourbon Rock Bar and BBQ, Black Swan restaurant, Brooklyn Tap House and more. We are also close to Fort Greene park, Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) for the best in film, theater, and dance; and public sculpture garden and historic design school, Pratt Institute; car rental, and Duane Reade (pharmacy); and great new grocery stores nearby -- Kihm's Millenium Market (like Whole Foods, open 24 hours/day), Chestnut (Kosher, great produce, open late).
GUEST ROOM: This guest bedroom has its own private entrance from the outside. It includes a loft Queen-sized bed and a comfortable double papasan underneath.
APARTMENT: Two levels. On the top, street level is the kitchen, full bathroom, host bedroom, and small dining area/living room. On lower level is the larger living room, Olivier's music "studio", guest bedroom and half bathroom. Right off the stairs down to the lower level is the door out to the lower patio. From the lower patio there are stairs up to the garden (right across from the upper living room area). There is also access to the roof of the building with views of the NYC skyline.

Interaction with Guests
We are always happy to interact with travelers from all over the world, but our level of interaction truly depends on the will of the guests and our work schedules. We understand that some guests prefer more solitude while others enjoy more socializing and that perhaps everyone needs a little of both. Olivier is wonderful at directing guests to local hot-spots and events.
Do-or-Die, BED-STUY! The neighborhood is home to a diverse population (Hasidic Jews, Blacks, Latinos, Whites, Europeans, Arabs) and is quickly gentrifying. Some tree-lined blocks are gorgeous, clean and with classic brownstone buildings, while other blocks are dirtier, neglected and covered in graffiti. Guests should not have any problems, but it is never a bad idea in any big city to stay alert.
Subways: We are three blocks from the Myrtle-Willoughby station on the G subway line. G line connects to F, L, and A lines, which all travel into Manhattan. Around 20 minutes to Manhattan.
Buses: We are One block from three different bus routes: B54 down Myrtle past restaurants and Pratt towards downtown Brooklyn; B44 down Nostrand Avenue towards LIRR train; and B38 down DeKalb Avenue right to B/Q/R and 2/3/4/5 subway lines, past Pratt Institute, Fort Green restaurants, Downtown Brooklyn, Fulton Mall, BAM.
Bicycles: Also near a CitiBike station (great new public program where one can rent bicycles easily) and major bike routes.
Travel to/from Airport:
JFK: Air-Train is the train loop from the airport that connects to the subway lines. Take Air-Train to the A train. Get off at Hoyt-Schermerhorn station and switch to the G train traveling towards Court Sq. (up stairs and over to other platform). G train to Myrtle-Willoughby.
LGA - La Guardia Airport: Although it is accessible by some public transportation, we highly advise that guests arriving or leaving from this airport take a taxi cab. (Fifteen minutes by taxi VS. more than an hour and many buses/trains from Queens to Manhattan and then back down into Brooklyn). Trust us.
Parking: there is no parking in our building but it is not difficult to find parking on the street. Just be aware of parking rules -- cars must be moved on street-cleaning or garbage collection days.
Car services or Taxis: we have numbers for several private car services. About $12 to DUMBO, $18 to Lower Manhattan. Green and Yellow Taxis are available as well. (Guests might try UBER or HAILO apps to call for cars as well).
-Please allow a copy of your passport/drivers license to be made at check in.
-Smoking in yard/patio allowed
-Always lock outside doors when leaving
-Please do not leave dirty dishes or food in bedrooms
-Please recycle paper, bottles, cans.
-Please communicate with other guests, especially about use of bathrooms and kitchen (especially during work week)
-Please keep toiletries in lower bathroom
-Please let us know if you need anything!
From Jun 1 - Aug 31, 2015 the minimum stay is 3 nights.
The place is exactly how it is described. We liked it immensely. It's done up very artistically and tastefully. The stay was very comfortable. Though we didn't get to meet Vered much, Olivier was very helpful and always ready to answer even the most mundane question. He made us the most amazing coffee and very kindly offered us to take us as his guests to a carnival where he was playing. Too bad we were completely jet lagged and couldn't go. They have an amazing collection of books and a very cute backyard garden. We strongly recommend their place.
We had a good time staying with Vered and Olivier. They are both really friendly and always up for a chat. When we arrived, they gave us some tips and in the room there are a few tourist guides as well.
The room was clean, so was the bathroom right next to it. I loved the house, it had a nice atmosphere to it. In the room was an airconditioner, which was needed at some point, so very welcome. It also helps to block out the noise from the streets, which could be quite a lot at some times. But that's not something Vered and Olivier can do anything about :)
The house is situated in Brooklyn, so it takes you about 45 minutes to get to Manhattan centre (say Times Square for example). We were in New York for 7 days, so that wasn't really a problem for us.
We had a lovely time in New York, thanks for everything.
The bed was clean, the air conditioner in the bedroom worked and Vered & Olivier were gracious. However, I left the AC cord in the bedroom. I discovered this when I unpacked. When I called Olivier, he told me that he could not afford the fee to mail it back. This is odd since this rental was a transfer from another place that didn’t work out so this was unexpected money. If someone left something important to them in my place I would definitely return it. What a bummer!
Vered & Olivier were very nice and welcoming. They gave us some really useful advices and helped us when we had questions.
The flat and the room were really great and clean. The subway is at about five minutes (by walk) and you will find some good restaurants and shops around. The neighbourhood is safe, so really a nice place to stay few days !!
Thanks Vered & Olivier for the great experience !!
Great hosts! Vered and Olivier have been very considerate and helpful, and they gave us excellent hints. Their home was a perfect place to start exploring NYC, well connected to Manhattan by subway (2 stations at not even 5-min walking distance from home) and neighborhood is ok - never felt unsafe even coming back at night - with all basic facilities at walking distance - groceries, etc.. The room is not very big but just perfect for a short stay (we stayed 5 days and felt comfortable!) and we really loved the house! We warmly recommend Vered and Olivier's place and can't wait for visiting again.... sooner or later.
Thank you! Andrea & Giorgia
