Interaction with Guests
Although busy with jobs and local activities, we love to interact with guests each day to see how you have enjoyed yourselves and to check if you need anything! Please always say hello when you see us and stop for a chat if you can!
We love the proximity to our local Shelly beach (5 min walk), coastal walks, the rainforest and year round temperate climate.
For the adventurous, the area is a stepping off point for surfing, boating, fishing, hang-gliding, biking and scenic walks, both south and north encompassing many local beaches. In addition, the hinterland and coastal region hosts many local art & food markets, wineries and an array of cultural events at the Glasshouse, with its productions affiliated with the Sydney Opera House.
Bikes are available on request. In addition, there are local buses and 5-min cab ride into town centre. Street parking is available for those with a car.
Other Things to Note
The Rainforest Haven has lots of fliers of local activities and site seeing locations- please let us know what you like to do, so we can make recommendations!
We have a strict non-smoking policy and pets are not allowed (due to the abundance of natural fauna! e.g. lizards, birds, and occasionally a koala!) This is child free accommodation.
Host was (from the outset) great at making contact with me and making changes to the booking due to changes in my plan. Directions to the place were good and Betsey has a tour guide online which is quite good. Betsey welcomed me into the place on the first day, gave me a bit of a background about the place and how they started using AIRBNB. The place looked very much like the photos, and is somewhat a Granny Flat. It is attached to the house and the entrance is the laundry, however the hosts do not enter the laundry at all without pre organising and not for short stays. The place was clean and had a huge collection of DVDs for quiet nights in. The place has obviously been taken care of well. The place is entirely self contained so there isn't really any need for anything else, apart from cooking, due to a there not being any real cooking facilities inside the place, however there is access to a BBQ and several other cooking utensils in the common areas. The fantastic care they have for their guests is amazing, I was provided with what was called a 'breakfast starter pack' however included milk, juice, yoghurt, bread, several assortments of spreads and many other things, which is good for travellers not carrying much food. The common area also includes a pool, and within the region there's a few nice things to do. I was quite happy with the stay and checkout was a breeze. Would suit singles or couples travelling. Overall I would definitely stay here again.
What a great stay! Couldn't ask for more, best sleep ever, wake up to kookaburras in the koala reserve behind the accomodation and delicious morning goodies supplied. Perfect stay with great communication and wonderful hosts to match. Can not rave about this place anymore! Will definitely come back next time we are in port Mac! Thanks heaps for our stay!
The "Haven" was a 'home away from home". Very comfortable & clean with a well stocked kitchenette for a healthy breakfast.
The house is in a very quiet & peaceful area and is only a short walk to Shelly Beach.
Betsey & Liz were lovely & provided recommendations on things to do & see as well as places to eat.
They have thought of everything for an enjoyable & comfortable stay (even down to the use of a bike) and I would highly recommend the Haven.
Our stay with Betsey and Liz was nice ! Good location and all we needed for breakfast in the fridge, special the homemade cereals. Thanks a lot for your care for us ! Rudy and Ria
Betsey was very welcoming and the accommodation was spotlessly clean and as described. The house backs onto some bush which made for a quiet nights sleep without street light in your window. The breakfast provisions were generous and Betsey catered to my preferences for milk and bread. Even though I was only in Port Macquarie to work ,Betsey was interseted in helping me explore where to eat and what to do (if I had had the time).Overall my frst experience of Airbnb was a very positive experience and I would recommend Betsey's accommodation in Port Macquarie. John
Betsey was amazing! Our accommodation elsewhere had fallen through and Betsey saved our skins by accepting our request at almost 8pm at night. The place smashed all our expectations and the touches were amazing - from home made banana bread to excellent chats in the morning. If I'm back in Port, I'll be back here for sure!
We absolutely loved 'Rainforest Haven'. Betsey and Liz were fantastic hosts and the apartment was perfect for us with everything we needed provided for, including breakfast. We enjoyed the short walk to the beach, and the fantastic walks further along the coast, but sitting in the back yard by the pool listening to all the rainforest noises was sublime.
About the Host, Betsey
Betsey and Liz
“Port Perfect”, as we like to call it, has been our home for nearly four years. Originally here with teenagers and Liz’s elderly mother, we have found ourselves rattling around in our newly renovated home and have decided to open it up for the enjoyment of others! AirBnB is a new venue; however hosting has been something we have done for years! When living in Sydney, in addition to our 5 children, we have always had 2-3 ‘others’ share our home – students from China, Japan, Colombia, Brazil, Norway, etc; or teachers, parents and friends. Having ourselves lived in a number of different countries, we are well-accustomed to sharing diverse cultures and experiences. In Port Macquarie, we have busy lives with work and social commitments and want to share our home by providing a self-contained, private area for your short or longer term pleasure.
Port provides so much to explore and enjoy! It is certainly an ‘outdoor enthusiasts’ dream location! Every morning you will find us taking a walk and dip at our ‘local’ Shelly Beach. Some mornings (like today, in fact) you will find us making breakfast at the beach in ‘Harry’s Hut’ (see the photos). Spending time outside is a huge highlight for us!
With five daughters, some overseas, two grandchildren in Sydney and many friends locally and around the world, we are especially interested in travel, cultural exchange and meeting a variety of people.
We want you to feel comfortable whilst making the ‘Beach House’ your home and we are available for chats, queries, suggested activities or directions whenever you like. Drop us a line and we will endeavour to reply within a day to queries about bookings, etc.
