/Sharon Heights neighborhood of West Menlo Park, on a triangle bound by Sharon Rd, Santa Cruz Ave and the Alameda de las Pulgas. Easy biking distance to Stanford, SLAC, downtown Menlo Park, Sand Hill Rd and U.S. Highway 280.
We are less than 20 minutes walking distance from the northwest corner of the Stanford campus and about 35 minutes' walking distance from the center of campus. We are also walking or easy biking distance to downtown Menlo Park, Palo Alto, and the Stanford Shopping Center.
West Menlo Park is full of bike paths and nice, easy walks. And we’re less than 3 miles from the Alpine Rd entrance to the famous Stanford "Dish walk", a paved path through the foothills with spectacular views. And there’s lots of other great hiking in the area too. We love hiking; let us know if you'd like some area recommendations.
We’re empty nesters, have lived in the area most of our lives, and are happy to answer any questions you may have about the area or provide recommendations. This is an ideal set-up for a visiting student, scholar or professor. Many of our guests are also in town visiting friends or family in the area.
You can get from SFO to the downtown Menlo Park Caltrain station via public transportation, then walk or take a taxi from the train station to the studio. We recommend this over SuperShuttle--cost is much less, and it's takes just about the same amount of time. A private limo is at least $65 plus tip each way.
We are walking distance to the Avy Avenue/Alameda de las Pulgas shopping area, which includes a Starbucks, U.S. Post Office, gas station, the highly acclaimed Flea Street Café restaurant, and a favorite Stanford beer-and-burger hangout, the Dutch Goose. We are also walking distance to Sharon Heights Shopping Center, which includes another Starbucks, a Shell gas (petrol) station, a 24-hour Safeway, a CVS pharmacy, yogurt shop, European deli, shoe repair, travel agency, a Mexican restaurant, and the highly rated Mitsunobu Japanese restaurant.
Off-street parking for one vehicle is available, just outside the gate to your studio entrance. Overnight parking is also allowed on your side of the street without limit. Overnight parking in the City of Menlo Park (other side of the street) is restricted, but courtesy warnings are issued before any citations.
Many of our guests are international scholars coming to teach, research or study at Stanford. Many of them prefer not to rent a car and have been happy to be walking or biking distance from campus. If you'd like to bike, we have a spare bike we can let you use at a nominal cost: $5 a day, $25 a week or $75 a month plus $75 refundable deposit. This is about half the cost of rentals on campus.
HOUSE RULES - NO SMOKING, no exceptions. No shoes (to keep the cottage extra-clean). Recycling actively encouraged.

• SHOE-FREE please (to keep our studio extra clean).
• RECYCLING encouraged--we meet our city's goal of recycling over 50%.

Private, convenient, very clean, great host, many amenities, recommend.
As my first experience with Airbnb (and the Bay Area), I could have not of asked for a better setup.
It was conveniently located with good clean space fully equipped with everything needed. Our hosts were both helpful and thoughtful, responding to any question/concern very quickly.
I would definitely consider this location for any future visits!
I had my visiting in-laws staying at the studio for 3 weeks, and it was exactly what they needed. The room is neat and well equipped.
Laurel is a great host, she and her family were very welcoming and responsive.
Definitely considering renting their place for future family/friend visits (as it's within walking distance to our home), and would recommend to anyone.
Great room. Just like the pictures. Very clean and comfortable. Great location. It was a beautiful area to walk around and a 10 minute walk to Safeway.
Laurel was very receptive to feedback and acted on suggestions quickly. For example, the internet speed was slow on the first day and it turned out I was connected to the slower network. After they set me up everything was great and the speed was 20 mb/s.
There was an issue with the guests staying at the house next door being quite loud for a couple nights. They had a couple parties. Laurel contacted them and it was quiet after that. She also went out of her way to suggest other alternatives but I enjoyed the place so much that I didn't want to move unless absolutely necessary.
Overall a great place and I would stay there again if I'm in the area.
We loved having Matt as a guest. This was the first noise issue we've experienced in the year since building this studio, and we hope the last! Most of our guests are Stanford or Silicon Valley affiliated and follow a schedule similar to ours--early to bed, early to rise, and work most of the day! Thank you Matt for your understanding, and we've very glad you decided to stay and that the features and location worked out well for you!
We stayed a week there and was wonderful. Laurel was always very kind and available.
The ap is good for 2 people (I went with my son), very clean and comfortable. Good shower. Good Wi-Fi connection. We just miss a TV - but, anyway, was great to be without it for a week.
The neighborhood is really quiet and calm.
I recommend for everyone!
Laurel is easily the best Airbnb host I have come across. I stayed at her place in Menlo Park for three months, and she was very responsive to any requests I had.
*The studio itself was very clean, and was fully stocked with toiletries
*The bed was actually really comfortable
*The location is very hard to beat
*The kitchen was small, but fully functional
*The dedicated washer and dryer were always available, and came stocked with detergent and dryer sheets
*During the summer months, it can get really warm in the studio. Laurel was, of course, amazing and brought over a portable AC unit that solved the problem
*The studio shares a wall with another unit, which can sometimes mean noise at off hours. Again, Laurel came to the rescue and straightened things out right away.
Overall the location was great. The accommodations were 5 star as far as cleanliness and condition of the apartment. I wasn't able to meet Laurel but her son let me in and there was no reason to contact them during my stay. Be aware as they say in the notes there is no alarm clock, radio or TV though most people can use their phones or computers for that. It's close to some great restaurants. I enjoyed Flea Street Cafe for a nice California cuisine dinner and Lulu's for casual Mexican. Other services such as a post office, dry cleaning and Starbucks are right up the street. Overall, I highly recommend the apartment for people going to Stanford, Palo Alto, Menlo Park or Sand Hill Road events.
