Austurvöllur-Park, Áslaug´s Accommodation-Faktorshús, Hæstikaupstaður, Ísafjörður. Swimming pool on right hand site.
The apartment and the shower and toilet were clean and fine. The host is very kind and answers directly.
We stayed in one of the guesthouses managed by the host, which was in the basement of her home. Our biggest complaint was that the directions to find the building were nearly impossible to understand (without being provided an actual address), which lead to a stressful time finding it. The rooms had good facilities (2 bathrooms and 2 showers) and while the home is definitely old it seemed clean and well-maintained. I loved having our own sink in the room! Having a separate fee for wireless internet seems a bit ridiculous these days, as everywhere else we stayed offered it at no charge. Otherwise, since Isafjordur is nearly tourist-free in September, we had the place nearly to ourselves.
The location is wonderful, right beside a nice park and within view of main street. It was quite and comfortable. Gisting was also a very welcoming host, explaining the town and some things that we could do (especially since many things have slowed down for the winter).
Overall, an older but well maintained place to stay. I did think it was slightly overpriced for what you got (but everywhere in Iceland seems somewhat that way).
Clean and comfortable accommodations in the heart of Isafjordur. A bit tricky to find the building but the town is small so you can't get lost!
The guesthouse is as described and perfectly fine to stay in, although not special in any way. Everything was clean, the kitchen was ok. The location, however, is fantastic. Overall, it was a decent stay, but a bit overpriced for what you get (compared to our other stays in Iceland).
About the Host, Áslaug
I´m Áslaug. A mother, a wife, a grandmother.
I´ve had the accommodation in my house since 1989, in a house I grew up in and was built by my grandfather.
My husband and I bought one of the oldest houses in Iceland (ANNO (phone number hidden), it´s located next to the guesthouse, It´s been completely renovated. The major renovation started 1998 and formally finished 2005. I´m willing to share informations about the houses and our town, I´m also very interested in photographs and photography.
