One of the first things our guests asks is whether a car is required in Cortona. The simple answer is that if you are planning to visit neighboring hill towns during your time here, then a car is recommended - and we can help you find one either in Rome, Florence or Arezzo. There is though a train station at Camucia (below Cortona) and there are trains to Florence, Perugia, Assisi and Rome!, but for all other trips a car is recommended. Of course, you also have the option for a car a driver for one or more days if preferred.
If you plan on remaining in and around Cortona, you will not need a car at all as everything you might possibly need can be foundhere. If you do rent a car, parking is available either near to the apartment in the main square or at any of he car parks outside the city walls - but all close to the apartment.

is now famous for “Under the Tuscan Sun” by Francis Mayes – and late 2002 and early 2003, Cortona was transformed and given the Hollywood once over during the making of the film version – which included a huge set of fountains with Roman lions etc – however, don’t go searching for this as it was merely something installed to make the town “more authentic”!
Cortona with its Etruscan origins is rich in art and history. The prevailing character of Cortona’s architecture is medieval with steep narrow streets situated on a hillside (altitude 600 metres) providing magnificent panoramas to every point of the compass, embracing the whole of the Valdichiana.
The Museo Diocesano is home to a superb collection of paintings, including "Annunciation" and "Madonna and Saints" by Fra Angelico, and also a group of work by Giuseppe Maria Crespi known as Lo Spagnuolo called "Ecstasy of St. Margaret".
Inside the Palazzo Pretorio is the Museo dell'Accademia Etrusca that displays items from Etruscan, Roman, and Egyptian civilizations and also art and artefacts from the Medieval and Renaissance eras.
Cortona has a range of restaurants catering for all tastes.
As with most Tuscan towns the churches are magnificent and well worth a visit.
There are buses and two train stations (closest Camucia). However, for touring Tuscany, a car can be the easiest method.

Lovely apartment in a lovely location. Great communication with the host and a friendly welcome.
What a great place. Atmospheric and centrally located on a square in the centre of the town. Nice cafes and restaurants really nearby. They kindly gave us a cake and some wine when we arrived. A great example of why airbnb can be much better value than a hotel.
The perfect location in Tuscany. We visited any their towns but Cortona felt like home, warm and welcoming. Our view over the main square and central location made our stay easy and engaged. The home easily held the five opus and we could have had two more. Well appointed, plenty of hot water, and plenty of light. We will be back.
Hi! Great location! Right in main piazza.
Mario and Ilana met us in street and showed us around apartment and advised us of good local restaurants etc.
Apartment was immaculate.
Terry was excellent as we booked last minute and organised our stay.
