Great Value, Apartment in Cortona's historic square, this lovely clean, bright apartment is perfect for up to 4 guests (maybe 5) - or, lots of space for just two!.
The apartment is ideal for a few days - or a couple of weeks to enjoy the famous city of Cortona - and to visit some of the regions other charming towns, wineries and shopping (from lovely local fresh produce, arts and craft to the more worldly names of Prada and Gucci and their "bargain" outlets)
The apartment is perfectly located for all the fantastic restaurants, bars, museums and shops of this famous town. The location is perfect for you to explore this magical town and to go further afield to visit Arezzo, Pienza, Montepulciano, Siena, Assisi and more.
Cortona is fully served with all amenities and great food shops for all food lovers. Butcher, baker, wine shops, fresh and local fruit etc.
One of the first things our guests asks is whether a car is required in Cortona. The simple answer is that if you are planning to visit neighboring hill towns during your time here, then a car is recommended - and we can help you find one either in Rome, Florence or Arezzo. There is though a train station at Camucia (below Cortona) and there are trains to Florence, Perugia, Assisi and Rome!, but for all other trips a car is recommended. Of course, you also have the option for a car a driver for one or more days if preferred.
If you plan on remaining in and around Cortona, you will not need a car at all as everything you might possibly need can be foundhere. If you do rent a car, parking is available either near to the apartment in the main square or at any of he car parks outside the city walls - but all close to the apartment.
Cortona has an array of bars, restaurants to suit all tstes and pockets and, of course a wonderful choice of ice cream parlours - perfect for the late night snack ! Around the town there are many museums, churches, art shops and more to occupy your day. We can also arrange wine tours, cooking classes, truffle hunting and ceramic courses for you. Or, you may prefer other forms of relaxation
There are tennis courts, horse riding (for the proficient), a golf course (14kms) and much more. There is also a new communal swimming pool in Cortona and is in easy walking drom the apartment. Or, for those who prefer a beach, just 15 minutes drive is Lake Trasimeno.
For those wanting more of the Dole Vita, why not rent a scooter and explore some of the local areas. Better though for those who are fully aware of bikes and road sense.
Throughout the year there are festivals everywhere - Besides the Tuscan Sun Festival in August, there are 100s of others from the biggest BBQ held in Cortona, the antiques fair of Arezzo )every month), the Palio in Castiglion Fiorentino, Jousting in Arezzo, and or Carnival (February), there is Italy's second most famous held in Foiana -

is now famous for “Under the Tuscan Sun” by Francis Mayes – and late 2002 and early 2003, Cortona was transformed and given the Hollywood once over during the making of the film version – which included a huge set of fountains with Roman lions etc – however, don’t go searching for this as it was merely something installed to make the town “more authentic”!
Cortona with its Etruscan origins is rich in art and history. The prevailing character of Cortona’s architecture is medieval with steep narrow streets situated on a hillside (altitude 600 metres) providing magnificent panoramas to every point of the compass, embracing the whole of the Valdichiana.
The Museo Diocesano is home to a superb collection of paintings, including "Annunciation" and "Madonna and Saints" by Fra Angelico, and also a group of work by Giuseppe Maria Crespi known as Lo Spagnuolo called "Ecstasy of St. Margaret".
Inside the Palazzo Pretorio is the Museo dell'Accademia Etrusca that displays items from Etruscan, Roman, and Egyptian civilizations and also art and artefacts from the Medieval and Renaissance eras.
Cortona has a range of restaurants catering for all tastes.
As with most Tuscan towns the churches are magnificent and well worth a visit.
There are buses and two train stations (closest Camucia). However, for touring Tuscany, a car can be the easiest method.
We would like you to enjoy your time here in Cortona and to treat the apartment like home. We ask that you leave the apartment the same as you found it, clean and tidy.
