Interaction with Guests
We live here at the House so available to offer advice on all local " secret locations" private beaches all to yourself, off the beaten track roads and byways.
The small seaside village of Waterville has often been referred to as the ’Jewel’ on the famous Ring of Kerry.Nestled on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, hugging the shores of Lough Currane (famous worldwide for salmon & specimen sea trout) and enjoying a magnificent backdrop of lush, rugged mountains, it is little wonder that Charlie Chaplin fell in love with this idyllic, picturesque (email hidden)aplin returned to Waterville for many years with his wife Oona and their children, as, according to members of the Chaplin family, Waterville afforded him a tranquil haven where he could enjoy spending time with his family in relative anonymity. Many locals remember him strolling along the seafront promenade which runs along the centre of the village, his privacy always respected.
One of Chaplin’s favourite pursuits while in Waterville was fishing on Lough Currane.
His grandson Julien (a regular visitor to Waterville today) recounts a story of his grandfather having had a fruitless day on the lake, deciding to head to the fish shop in Caherciveen to buy some Salmon and return to the Butler Arms Hotel claiming that it was he who had caught them, an obvious indication that Chaplin was not only a comedian on screen, but also a bit of a joker in reality!
We offer a Shuttle to and from Train and Airport ( small charge ) . Local bus stops right outside house for arrival and departure to Old Cable House.

Margaret and her husband were very friendly and helpful in any possible way and we even got a special breakfast being vegetarians. Thank you again! The Old Cable Historic House is a very comfortable place and the rooms are cosy and clean. Waterville is a lovely small village and the evening out in the pub was great with live music. Thanks you so much for a lovely time :) All the best Christina
Zeer gastvrije mensen die er alles aan doen om het je naar je zin te maken. belangstellend en meedenkend
Our room was large with two big windows and a large comfy bed. Margaret was helpful, even drying clothes for my husband since he had gotten soaked playing golf in the rain. Breakfast was nice with 3 choices. The only negative was a sewer smell.
We very much enjoyed our stay. Our rooms were spacious and clean. Margaret was very welcoming, friendly and gave us good suggestions for places to visit. She served a delicious breakfast in the attached restaurant. The location is very convenient to Waterville Golf Club.
The Old Cable House was charming, inviting, and conveniently located to everything in Waterville
