Interaction with Guests
We do not live in the area- i help renters plan for the trip, have it cleaned before arrival and after departure. and i help in any way i can to make the trip wonderful. i send are attractions, helpful hints and driving directions with landmarks to all renters.
We searched many years to find the right piece of land to build our house on. This one won because of the uniquely private nature, the wonderful sweep of the land abutting state land and mountains, and the water, orchards and wildlife on the property. We are conveniently located halfway between Cooperstown and Cobleskill. Head in either direction for antiquing, Baseball fun, great meals, Howe Caverns or history!
On the property, we have deer, wild heron, wild turkey....it is a haven for animals, as we do not allow hunting. The ponds are stocked with Bass, and the fishing is fun! Every season has wonderful things to offer- In the summer- the hiking is great, the orchards are ripening, the fishing is rewarding, and the swimming in the spring- fed ponds is refreshing. In fall- the foliage is 360, as we are surrounded by state land, and the apples are ripe, the concord grapes abound, and the hiking is exhilarating. In Winter- renters love the solitude of the snow. the 1/2 mile drive is plowed, so no one gets snowed in, unless you want to be! we load in wood on the porch, and the wood stove keeps the house incredibly warm. In spring- everything is newborn, the brooks run heavy with melted snow, the trees are blooming, and the ponds come to life again!
All year long- enjoy visiting organic farms in the area to buy produce, meats, cheeses....and enjoy the bounty of the region.
There are busses to Cobleskill, Amtrak to Albany, but mostly accessible by car.
Other Things to Note
We stock our house so it does not feel like a rental. The cupboards are well stocked, the bathroom is well stocked. we like it to feel like home! We provide linens and towels and paper goods etc.
We hope that renters will treat our place like they would their own. There is no smoking inside the house. We allow dogs with an extra deposit. Dogs love our property...it's a dog sanctuary!
Booked the house super last minute and Mindy was great with communication and making my first AirBnB experience a success! The property and surrounding area is beautiful. House is comfortable (wood stove kept us toasty) and kitchen is fully equipped. We managed to pull off an unplanned a pre-Thanksgiving dinner complete with apple pie! Loved that there's a compost bin. Looking forward to visiting again!
Originally my sister and I were going to stay for 2 nights but do to the impending rain storm opted to stay only one night. We found the place without getting to lost. It's about 10-15 minutes outside of downtown Cobbleskill. Set back from the road, it's a quaint farm with ponds and trails. We hung out on the porch and watched the stars from the patio.
We did have trouble locking the door, but finally figured out how to do it. I talked to Mindy on the phone and she was helpful. Just a few things people should do. Bring sugar or honey if you like the real stuff and when you have a fire the directions say bring the damper forward. That means towards the stone wall. Trial & error. You learn quick.
Overall we had a nice time. The place is fairly remote but it's nice to relax and enjoy getting back to nature
Five stars! Just returned from a truly relaxing and invigorating weekend at this wonderful property. Mindy was an awesome host, provided me with all the details I needed and was quick to respond.
Outdoors:I brought my large dog and she had a blast tearing through the nearby meadow. The highlight of the trip was definitely hiking through the gorgeous woods (wear hunter's orange in the fall!) and the brilliant stars. Also there are perfect views of sunrise/sunsets from the porch couch!
Indoors: The cozy wood burning fireplace keeps the whole house toasty and there's everything you need to cook a nice meal in the kitchen. The lofted bedroom is great but the whole house is one big room so just keep that in mind if you have more than two people.
Overall, a perfect city escape.
