I rent a double room for one or two people. Near the Bay and city center.
We are in Manga, a recidencial neighborhood near downtown.
We offer: Bedding, towels and soap.
I live two years ago in Cartagena ... this means it can offer tourists a care and advice to fully enjoy your stay in the city.
Cartagena offers paradisiacal islands and white sand beaches just 30 minutes by boat, the port to go to the islands is 200 meters from our house.
We offer transfers to Playa Blanca for 20 dollars per person.
Guests can use the kitchen, the washing machine, parking and wifi.
WIFI, Kitchen, parking
Interaction with Guests
we share dinners, cook typical food of Cartagena and sometimes we go to the beaches or islands.
But if the guest was looking for privacy, you'll find plenty of room to relax, a hammock, two living rooms and terrace.
Manga is a Republican neighborhood that grew with the opening of the walls, the bourgeois classes, wealthy came to live in this area, full of fruit trees.
The book, Love in the Time of Cholera, the Nobel prize winner Gabriel García Márquez, set in Manga.
Cartageneras wealthy families brought their families here and built mansions full of luxury.
So, the traveler is surprised to find mansions that are replicas of the gardens of Granada or Arab palaces.
the traveler can walk to downtown, 10 minutes to Gethsemaní , or 15 minutes to the Old Town.
On hot days, it is best to take a taxi, costs 3 dollars to the center
Other Things to Note
we have two mango trees :)
please turn off the fan and light when you leave the room.
Isabel and her daughter were great hosts! Isabel made us feel very welcome and was very helpful answering our questions about how to get around Cartagena and what to do in the city. The room was very nice - a large comfortable bed, a hammock(!) and several fans. The house is located in a great area - easy to walk to all the tourist sites in Cartagena.
The listing was accurate and overall it was a very good experience. The house was located conveniently near the convention center where I needed to go and also walking distance the old part of town . I was in contact with Isabel from the beginning so arrival logistics worked well. It was like visiting a friend, Isabel was very friendly and helpful with info related to transport, food shopping etc. The house is near club nautico so I will surely be staying there again if space is available.
Isabel was a perfect host. On the first day she gave us a city map and showed us where to find good restaurants, supermarkets and historical points. We have been in her house for almost 3 weeks and visited a spanish school in Getsemani. The house is in a very safe environement and Getsemani is only a 10 min walk away. We could use the kitchen any time and even do our laundery. There are other rooms to rent in her house and we met a lot of interesting people from all over the world. We also enjoyed the open areas in the house and of course the baby cats. The street in front of the house is a bit noisy.
Isabel was incredibly sweet and welcoming! Her home was gorgeous with lots of open air spaces and located in a really safe neighborhood.
Cartagena as a whole was pretty underwhelming. Street vendors hassle you to no end and the whole city smells of sewage. Beaches are impossible to get to from Manga so one must spend the extra money to take a boat to Playa Blanca - definitely worth the money! But again, watch out for beach vendors, they hardly leave you alone.
Isabel offered some helpful tips about how to get to the bay to catch the Playa Blanca boat, but otherwise my boyfriend were left to explore what little Cartagena has to offer on our own.
Isabel 's place is nice and she has a beautiful daughter and two nice cats. Isabel always tried to help and understand our need. Her daught is brilliant and smart and we did talk a lot with each other.
Her place is not located in the old town but it will be more quite and safe as there is a police station nearby. If you want to go to the downtown, it will only take 15mins walk as mentioned in Isabel profile . It is a good choice if you want to remote from the busy downtown and the backpack area.
Isabel had emailed me perfect directions to the house and I arrived their directy from the airport by taxi. They taxi fare was $7US including tip. The house is a private house (not an apartment building) and a one story building. It is 2 blocks from the boat harbor where you can walk to to see the sun set and the Cartegena skyline. It is also a 10-15 minute walk from old town Cartegena. The house is amazingly centrally located. Isabel is very friendly and speaks english and offers coffee in the morning and also if you have a load of clothes to wash she will wash them with hers. There is a grocery store 3 minutes away (by foot) and a ATM/bank across the street from the grocery store. There is a fully stocked kitchen and stove and refridge so you can cook at home if you wish. They rooms are very clean and the bed is very comfortable. There is a lot of common space for hanging out and reading and relaxing. The place looks exactly like the photos in the listing. this listing. The neighborhood is very safe, in fact there is a police station very near by. Many families with dogs and children walk at night along the water. I stayed here for a week and felt very welcomed. Isabel is a great hostess.
