Casa Cool Breeze is located on quiet Calle Cielo (Heaven Road) with a beautiful view of the Atlantic ocean.
Enjoy a fully equipped kitchen, master bedroom balcony and W/D. It's just 7 minutes to town and 15 minutes to the beach.
Casa Cool Breeze is a romantic hilltop retreat in Vieques, Puerto Rico. This "modern rustic" villa (built 2004) in barrio Monte Carmelo was created by a New York-based Puerto Rican performing artist as an escape from the rat race and secluded place to read, write, and recharge amidst the natural beauty of the island.
Nestled in the beautiful mountains of Vieques for a tranquil setting, Casa Cool Breeze is my private haven where I have enjoyed many years of Caribbean adventures! Upon arriving in 2003 I wanted my home to have an open airy feel so I decided on a wooden structure, which tend to be cooler and less oppressive looking than standard concrete houses. The ceiling is 16' high at the highest point creating a natural open zen like feeling. The magnificent views and history of the mountain are what really drew me. Monte Carmelo is a historic place in Vieques, named after Sr. Carmelo the bee keeper who fought to reclaim the land from the Navy.
Camp Garcia, a nature reserve with some of the best beaches in Vieques is only a 15 minute drive. There is a local Colmado (bodega) just down the road from the house and the town of Isabel Segunda is 7 minutes away, Esperanza is 15 minutes.
The property is blessed with an abundance of volcanic basalt boulders and rocks which creates the feel of a Japanese rock garden. I usually greet the sunrise perched on the largest of these stones.
Enjoy beautiful sunsets over the rainforest in PR in the distance, as you sip beverages on the master balcony!
Cool Breeze is equipped with stove, refrigerator, dishes/glass ware /silverware, coffee pot, washer/dryer, and internet with wireless wi-fi (no television). The house is naturally cooled by the gentle winds of our hilltop and ceiling fans in each room.
The home has two bedrooms and one spacious bath (with a modern soaking tub/shower and bidet) and easily sleeps 4 - 6 including the sleeper couch in the living room. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and the second bedroom has one full size bed. Also in the second bedroom are 4 sets of adult snorkeling gear, masks, snorkels and fins.
Guests also have access to the laundry room with washer and dryer, charcoal grill, patio furniture, beach chairs, coolers, beach towels, hammock, and even sand toys for the kids.
The wonderful Miriam will be taking care of your needs during your visit. She will make arrangements to give you keys and show you the house and grounds and answer all your questions.
Miriam can arrange to have a delicious Puerto Rican dinner or lunch ready when you arrive for an additional fee.
Miriam is pioneer in bodywork in Puerto Rico, a founder of one of the first Massage and healing schools in the island. Casa Cool Breeze comes equipped with a massage table so you can book your massage with Miriam at an additional charge.
Calle Ciello is one of the most gorgeous streets in Monte Carmelo, with friendly neighbors and beautiful sunsets.
You can relax after a long day at the beach on the spacious bedroom balcony and watch the sun dip behind El Yunque rainforest in the distance as the colors of the sea change right before your eyes.
Monte Carmelo is known on the island as" La Tierra de los Valientes" Land of the Valient.
To enjoy Vieques you must rent a vehicle. If you're an adventurer than preferably a 4x4 so you can take all the back dirt roads for mountain biking and hiking.
**IMPORTANT** During High season winter months, it is HIGHLY recommended to rent a car 4-5 WEEKS in Advance! Vieques has a shortage of Car rentals available.
Maritza Car Rental has the best Jeep rentals on the island with a very professional staff but are pricey. If you want something more affordable and don't need a 4x4 and are comfortable with an island experience of a "handshake deal" then Chepitos is the way to go. You'll get what I like to call a Vieques mobile, runs well but may not be pretty. He'll leave the car for you at the ferry or airport and is about $30 less. Chepito’s Car Rental or Island Car rental
However, if you don't want to rent there are plenty of "Publicos" Taxis that will take you just about anywhere. Kiani Tours is a touring company as well as a Jeep taxi service.
Also you can check with Vieques Events in their Phone directory for numbers of all the Publicos available on the island.
If you have a young child there is a booster seat available for the dining set in the closet of the master bedroom.
There are also toddler toys in the bottom draw of the dresser in the master bedroom as well as some board games for adults.

This place is fantastic. My wife, our almost-one-year-old daughter and I stayed here for over a week and had a wonderful time. The views off the back porch are even more beautiful than it looks in the pictures- the house is high up on a hill so you can see the ocean and the mainland of Puerto Rico in the distance. We ate dinner out there almost every night, watching the sunsets, and also because the house is up high it gets a really nice cool breeze (hence the name Casa Cool Breeze!) and even on those really hot days it's really pleasant. Great sleeping weather too.
My parents joined us for the second part of our stay, but even with 4 adults and a baby in the house there was plenty of room. We didn't meet Sophia in person but she was extremely responsive and helpful over email, she even sent us a long list of recommendations for all kinds of things on Vieques that turned out to be right on and very useful. We did meet the caretaker Miriam though and she was great, she's a masseuse who gave my wife a massage she was very happy with, she made sure we were taken care of and even invited us to a party on the other side of the island where we felt very welcome and had a great time.
The house is in an excellent location also, only 5 minutes or so drive to Isabel Segundo, and a little farther to Esperanza but not much. It's also really close to the beautiful beaches at Camp Garcia and very close to the Sun Bay beaches. We hit a different beach every day and never had to drive more than 15 minutes or so. About the only negative thing you could say is that you need to rent a car to stay here, since it's not in one of the towns and it's high up on a hill, you wouldn't want to be walking or taking a bus or something (if you even could?). Personally, I don't see why you'd want to stay on Vieques without a car anyway, there's too much to explore and see on this amazing island that you really need a car for, but I suppose if you're trying to go super cheap and stay in Esperanza and just walk to the same beach every day or something then this probably isn't for you.
Otherwise, this place is a gem and I highly recommend staying here!
What a wonderful house! Sophia and her helpful house manager Miriam were so quick and assertive with getting us to the house. Upon arrival we settled in to the spacious house up on the hill at the end of the road. Her bright home was a perfect secluded location with a breathtaking view. It was perfection - the porch off the back bedroom was a dreamy spot to enjoy coffee and breakfast, as well as late night drinks in the cool breeze.
Miriam took us to pick up our rental car, and let us know where the farmers market was and told us tips and tricks to the island.
We will be coming back every year and this will always be our first choice, no doubt.
We are missing Vieques and La Casa Cool Breezes hospitality every day.
Thanks again for the wonderful time!
Casa Cool Breeze is so beautiful, neat clean and spectacular view. This is the perfect place for couples that want to relax, and disconnect from the world. There's no TV (I didn't miss it at all, but it may note worthy for those with children). We were 2 couples, (4) but the house can comfortably accommodate up to 6 guests. One of the best places I've stayed in Vieques, location wise, super close from all beaches, Isabel II, Esperanza, and groceries store (Mambo's mini market has everything). House Temperature was just perfect. Kitchen is fully equipped with many non-expected extras, super comfortable bathroom (the 2 sinks were a plus) and hot water on demand. Availability of beach chairs, and beach towels. One the things that we enjoyed mostly was having breakfast and drinking our morning coffee in the terrace while enjoying the panoramic ocean view. The house says it included Internet but didn't worked during our stay, and the problem wasn't be solved. Even though it didn't bothered us that much, for last minute work it could've been useful. Thanks to a book titled "Vieques" we were able to discover places and landmarks I'd never seen during my previous visits to Vieques.
Don't expect Miriam (the house administrator) to be as available and responsive to communication as Sophia (owner). Most of the time Miriam takes a long time to respond calls/texts (island time). Make sure you arrange when/where Miriam will meet you or pick you up BEFORE arriving to Vieques. Sophia is very professional, her response rate is 100%, always, and even though she's not there to personally assist you, she'll do everything to help you out with any of your concerns.
I am so happy you and your friends enjoyed the house! As far as the internet, I apologize that it wasn't available. Claro service is not as reliable as Verizon was, but Verizon is no longer available on the island. I wish you would have called me, I may have been able to resolve the situation from here. Thank you for letting me know about it. Hope to host you in the future and make your stay even better the next time.
I don't even know where to begin in describing what an truly WONDERFUL stay we had at Sophia's beautiful, charming, and fantastically located home in Vieques!! We spent 10 days there and from our first contact with Sophia, our first meeting with the extremely friendly, kind, courteous and extremely helpful Miriam, we were SO impressed with the level of professionalism, and outstanding hospitality! Sophia is an excellent airbnb host, and Miriam the perfect guide and touchstone during your visit to Casa Cool Breeze!
Casa Cool Breeze is decorated beautifully with an extremely laid back and relaxing atmosphere. Both bedrooms, master and guest, has very comfortable sleeping arrangements, and there was nothing better than leaving the beach to come home and sit and unwind on her gorgeous balcony or wake up and greet the dawn in the backyard of her beautiful property. No detail is overlooked at Casa Cool Breeze, down to complimentary beach chairs, snorkeling gear, bath and beach towels, and two hammocks as well! This is a 5 star home and experience hands down. You are centrally located to all of the natural beauty and beaches and Vieques, and are lucky enough to have Sophia and Miriam at your disposal....HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Again, I could go on and on about what a treasure Casa Cool Breeze is, so best thing I can suggest is to book with Sophia and see for yourself! I am already planning my return!
Sincerest thanks for everything Sophia and Miriam, you made our trip to Vieques nothing short of magical! See you again soon!
My boyfriend and I stayed at Casa Cool Breeze to celebrate my 30th birthday and had the best time! The pictures don't do the house and property justice and it is in a beautiful, quiet, central part of the island. We rented a Jeep, which is definitely necessary to explore the island, and thanks to Sophia's super informative guest handbook, we were able to do see tackle multiple beaches a day! The house is fully stocked which allowed us to make smoothies every morning, do yoga in the backyard and be well-prepared for beach adventuring. We would absolutely recommend staying at Casa Cool Breeze to everyone from couples to full families, it's a gem.
My best friend and I had a magical time at Casa Cool Breeze.
As we planned our trip, Sophia, the owner of the cottage, responded to all emails quickly and was very helpful in navigating the car rental situation on the island (BOOK EARLY or it's impossible to find a car!!!) and recommending a taxi service run by her friend, which was excellent. She also emailed me a PDF guide to her home and the island, including photos and reviews of different beaches and restaurants -- very professional.
We were picked up at the ferry by Miriam, the property manager, who is funny and kind and took very good care of us during our stay -- she was always available by text messages when we had any questions about the property or the island.
The cottage itself is a delight, clean and comfortable with a peaceful and spiritual vibe. It has beautiful open kitchen/living room with simple, tasteful decor. We had stopped in Fajardo to buy groceries before getting on the ferry (food is a little expensive on the island) and we enjoyed Sophia's fully functioning kitchen, complete with oils and spices. We were also grateful to borrow her cooler, beach towels and chairs and umbrellas for our excursions to Vieques' fantastic beaches, where we spent most of our days.
The property features a huge, gorgeous bathtub in the bathroom, and both the beds in the master bedroom and the smaller bedroom were comfortable. The porch off the master bedroom has incredible ocean views -- we cooked and ate dinner there most nights, watching the sunset and then the stars come out.
The neighborhood, Monte Carmelo, is green, hilly, gorgeous, and centrally located to everything while feeling pleasantly remote and out of the way. We saw very few neighbors while we were there. It's a good idea to pay attention to landmarks -- we got lost once, but got in touch with Miriam and she helped us find our way home. Because the house is on a hill, evenings in January were cool and lovely, we did not even need the fans provided.
Apparently, there are crowing roosters all over Vieques. There wasn't one too close to the house, but there were audible crows early in the morning -- didn't bother me, but my friend was happy to have her earplugs, so bring those just in case.
We were very satisfied with our trip, only wish we'd planned to stay longer. We would absolutely stay there again the next time we come to Vieques. We almost didn't book it because we thought it looked too good to be true for the price. Turns out, we were just lucky! Great value, great energy, great experience.
