Just minutes to and from SJO airport, this cosy cabin with 3 bedrooms is perfect for families. Set in a garden with lovely mountain views, it is close to all amenities and public transport to surrounding towns. Breakfast available and WiFi.
Stay with us on your first and last night in Costa Rica. Just 3 kms. from the airport, our guest house is the most comfortable alternative to big chain hotels and perfect for travelers who need a convenient location, close to the international airport, and to major towns in the Central Valley, such as San José, Santa Ana, Alejuela, Heredia, and Escazu.
Although our guest house is in an urban setting, it has a rural feeling, surrounded by lush vegetation and with a great view of the mountains. Visitors love the warm and rustic feeling of the wood and rock architectural details of our cabin. Has the feel of a typical vacation cottage in North America; it´s very cosy but not too small to share with friends and family. We strive to keep it immaculately clean.
Visitors enjoy HIGH SPEED WIRELESS INTERNET.
Light housekeeping is provided for renters who stay more than 2 nights.
Breakfast available upon request.
Behind our property, there is a beautiful private country club where we are members. For a day pass, the country club charges $12 for adults and $6 for children under 11 and it is half price after 5 PM. Our guests enjoy use of the facilities which include swimming pools, jacuzi and sauna, tennis courts, and expansive picnic areas with covered ranches and playgrounds for children. We highly recommend that you make use of the club; during the week it´s practically empty and on the weekends it gets busy.
Interaction with Guests
Airport pick up and drop off available upon request. A taxi ride from or to the International airport costs less than $12 and takes about 7 minutes.
The area of San Antonio de Belén and La Ribera are considered among the finest neighborhoods to live in in Costa Rica. Almost everything you´d want is close at hand, such as a variety of supermarkets, fresh fruit and veggie markets, restaurants, beauty salons, recreation centres, shopping and cinemas, artesania, churches and community centres. It is considered a safe area, so you don´t have to be overly concerned about security, although we recommend locking your doors, closing the gate securely behind you and being careful when you take money out of the ATM machine and not carrying a lot of cash on you. Because we are so close to the airport, there are many rent-a-car agencies close by. If you do decide to rent a vehicle, you can ask the agency to drop off and /or pick up yoru vehicle here at the guest house, at no additional charge.
Just a block away buses leave for San Jose or Heredia every hour. Walk down to San Antonio, just a 10 minute walk, to the train station and catch a comfortable 25 minute train ride to the centre of San Jose.
Other Things to Note
Day trip suggestions
1. Poas Volcano is one hour away and is the most popular tourist attraction in Costa Rica. Its definitely worth the trip. You can drive there or private transportation can be arranged. The local bus is also a possibility but it would take longer to get there.
2. La Paz Waterfall Gardens is a beautiful place to visit, amazing animals and spectacular waterfalls, and the lunch is great. If you leave for Poas Volcano early you could even visit both places in one day.
3. San Jose has some nice places to visit. Because of the traffic we recommend that you take the train that leaves from San Antonio de Belen, just a 10 minute walk to the train station. (website hidden) has the schedule which is rather limited. Once in San Jose, places to visit are Teatro Nacional, Museo de Oro, Museo Nacional and the local artisan markets nearby.
We do not allow pets or smoking on the property.
Wow! What an amazing stay we had at Marie's place. Marie was a kind and generous host - cluing us in to some great spots to explore locally. The lodgings were comfortable and the stone shower quite cool. Marie prepared a delicious organic breakfast for us with food picked fresh from her garden.
Marie's place is just as beautiful as the photographs depict. Her gardens are lovely and make you feel like you are in an oasis right there in the city. Marie is very helpful, recommended restaurants where we were given a discount as her guests, arranged transportation for us to the airport, and even provided an early delicious breakfast. We were two hours late in arriving and it was no problem at all. It's proximity to the airport is perfect for your last night in Costa Rica.
Marie fue muy amable en todo momento y nos dió buenas recomendaciones sobre que hacer por la zona, que al final no hicimos nada y solo disfrutamos de la cabaña que es muy acogedora.
We stayed at Marie's place the night before leaving for home via the airport. Marie and her husband were very helpful in guiding us to her place, as things can be a bit hard to find in CR as there are no addresses.
Once we arrived we found everything to be nice and cozy, and in good order. Everything was clean and the bed was super comfy. Marie provided us with some dinner reservations that didn't go as planned but it all ended up being alright.
In the morning, Marie provided us with coffee and more food than we could eat. I don't think I could have asked for anything more.
We were only here for one night but found the house to be very comfortable and convenient. We ate plate lunches at the grocery store only 100 meters away. Airport 8 minutes away. Loved the shower!
My friends and I were traveling from Panama into Costa Rica and we were looking forward to a comfy home to call our own for the last two days of our vacation. Marie's place was perfect! It was a little difficult to find, but what do you expect when Costa Rica doesn't really have street signs or addresses...Marie's husband met us at the gate after we found her home and we pulled into what felt like our own little compound. As soon as we got there we were greeted by her pups, and daughter. She let us into the "cabin" and there was fresh fruit for us, coffee and milk, and some breakfast necessities. She truly made us feel at home. It was very clean and surprisingly perfect for five people. Never being in Costa Rica we didn't really have any idea of what to do. Marie suggested a music festival that was happening in San Jose, and we were so happy she did. She informed us Malpaís was playing (one of Costa Rica biggest bands) and it would be a guaranteed good time. She gave us a rundown of things we might want to do, and suggested that since we were going up to Poás Volcano we should eat at her friends place Chubascos...Best. Casado. Ever. Overall her suggestions were spot on. Marie made us feel welcome from the moment we got there to the moment we (sadly) left. The home feels safe when you are there, and it is far enough away from her house that you don't feel like you are being watched. Although it was not in the heart of San Jose, being super close to the airport was a treat, especially since we had to drop some friends off at 4am. It is centrally located, but it definitely helped that we rented a car to come and go as we pleased. I would recommend this listing to anyone wanting to have a cozy escape with the option to go into the city for some fun.
We had a great stay at Marie's! The little cottage is very cute, we had everything we needed. It was just a little noisy but it's on a busy street where you can catch direct bus and train to San Jose, which is good! Marie (and Nina!) was very welcoming and nice, she gave us a lot of infos about the neighborhood and transportation. Merci pour tout Marie!
A native Torontonian, Marie studied and worked abroad before finding her true love and tropical paradise in Costa Rica. Their passions for environmental and social issues has led to several projects including rainforest conservation, reforestation with native species, the design and construction of the first commercial solar wood dryers in Costa Rica, and support for traditional midwives in Central America.
Marie co-founded an NGO called Mamasol, through which she has worked for many years campaigning for the rights of mothers and babies for safe and empowering childbirth ((website hidden)).
