The space

Stay with us on your first and last night in Costa Rica. Just 3 kms. from the airport, our guest house is the most comfortable alternative to big chain hotels and perfect for travelers who need a convenient location, close to the international airport, and to major towns in the Central Valley, such as San José, Santa Ana, Alejuela, Heredia, and Escazu.

Although our guest house is in an urban setting, it has a rural feeling, surrounded by lush vegetation and with a great view of the mountains. Visitors love the warm and rustic feeling of the wood and rock architectural details of our cabin. Has the feel of a typical vacation cottage in North America; it´s very cosy but not too small to share with friends and family. We strive to keep it immaculately clean.

Light housekeeping is provided for renters who stay more than 2 nights.

Breakfast available upon request.

Although we are on a main road, finding it may be challenging, since there are no road signs here in Costa Rica. The land marks you will be looking for are the La Ribera Cemetery (125 metres west of), the Mormon temple (200 metres west of), and the Montesorri preschool across the road.

Guest access

Just up the road going West 0.8 km is the famous Ojo de Agua. With four fresh spring water swimming pools, this place is unique and the water is pure and magical. Entrance fee is 1500 colones ($3) per person 3 and over.

Interaction with guests

A taxi ride from or to the International airport costs less than $12 and takes about 7 minutes. You can also order an Uber from the airport. In the airport there is wifi so you can use it to order the uber.

The neighborhood

The area of San Antonio de Belén and La Ribera are considered among the finest neighborhoods to live in in Costa Rica. Almost everything you´d want is close at hand, such as a variety of supermarkets, fresh fruit and veggie markets, restaurants, beauty salons, recreation centres, shopping and cinemas, artesania, churches and community centres.

Our favorite local restaurants include La Riviera, Cangrejo Rojo Marisqueria, and Cerdo at the Commercial Centre La Ribera. All are just a 5 minute walk away and it is safe to walk in the evening. Visitors to Costa Rica may be surprised that it gets dark by 6 PM all year round!

It is considered a safe area, so you don´t have to be overly concerned about security, although we recommend locking your doors, closing the gate securely behind you and being careful when you take money out of the ATM machine and not carrying a lot of cash on you. Because we are so close to the airport, there are many rent-a-car agencies close by. If you do decide to rent a vehicle, you can ask the agency to drop off and /or pick up your vehicle here at the guest house.

Getting around

Just a block away buses leave for San Jose or Heredia every hour. Walk down to San Antonio, just a 10 minute walk, to the train station and catch a comfortable 25 minute train ride to the centre of San Jose.

Other things to note

Day trip suggestions
1. Poas Volcano is one hour away and is the most popular tourist attraction in Costa Rica. Its definitely worth the trip. You can drive there or private transportation can be arranged.

2. La Paz Waterfall Gardens is a beautiful place to visit, amazing animals and spectacular waterfalls, and the lunch is great. If you leave for Poas Volcano early you could even visit both places in one day.

3. San Jose has some nice places to visit. Because of the traffic we recommend that you take the train that leaves from San Antonio de Belen, just a 10 minute walk to the train station. Once in San Jose, places to visit are Teatro Nacional, Museo de Oro, Museo Nacional and the local artisan markets nearby.

Day TOURS can be arranged with a local company TAM, and they have offices close by.
v The Combo Tour (Poás Volcano, Doka Coffee Plantation & La Paz Waterfalls Gardens (Ecological Tour).
v Calypso’s Catamaran Cruise to Tortuga Island (Beach Tour)
v Rainforest Atlantic (Nature & Adventure Tour)
v Zip Line (Adventure & Nature)
v Arenal Volcano & Tabacon Resort Hot Springs (Relaxation Tour)
v White water rafting on the Pacuare River, One day and over night tours available. A day trip from here to go rafting costs $100 and includes transportation there and back, and food all day.
