About this listing
Just minutes to and from SJO airport, this cosy cabin with 3 bedrooms is perfect for families. Set in a garden with lovely mountain views, it is close to all amenities and public transport to surrounding towns. Breakfast available and WiFi.
Stay with us on your first and last night in Costa Rica. Just 3 kms. from the airport, our guest house is the most comfortable alternative to big chain hotels and perfect for travelers who need a convenient location, close to the international airport, and to major towns in the Central Valley, such as San José, Santa Ana, Alejuela, Heredia, and Escazu.
Although our guest house is in an urban setting, it has a rural feeling, surrounded by lush vegetation and with a great view of the mountains. Visitors love the warm and rustic feeling of the wood and rock architectural details of our cabin. Has the feel of a typical vacation cottage in North America; it´s very cosy but not too small to share with friends and family. We strive to keep it immaculately clean.
Visitors enjoy HIGH SPEED WIRELESS INTERNET.
Light housekeeping is provided for renters who stay more than 2 nights.
Breakfast available upon request.
Behind our property, there is a beautiful private country club where we are members. For a day pass, the country club charges $12 for adults and $6 for children under 11 and it is half price after 5 PM. Our guests enjoy use of the facilities which include swimming pools, jacuzi and sauna, tennis courts, and expansive picnic areas with covered ranches and playgrounds for children. We highly recommend that you make use of the club; during the week it´s practically empty and on the weekends it gets busy.
Interaction with Guests
Airport pick up and drop off available upon request. A taxi ride from or to the International airport costs less than $12 and takes about 7 minutes.
The area of San Antonio de Belén and La Ribera are considered among the finest neighborhoods to live in in Costa Rica. Almost everything you´d want is close at hand, such as a variety of supermarkets, fresh fruit and veggie markets, restaurants, beauty salons, recreation centres, shopping and cinemas, artesania, churches and community centres. It is considered a safe area, so you don´t have to be overly concerned about security, although we recommend locking your doors, closing the gate securely behind you and being careful when you take money out of the ATM machine and not carrying a lot of cash on you. Because we are so close to the airport, there are many rent-a-car agencies close by. If you do decide to rent a vehicle, you can ask the agency to drop off and /or pick up yoru vehicle here at the guest house, at no additional charge.
Just a block away buses leave for San Jose or Heredia every hour. Walk down to San Antonio, just a 10 minute walk, to the train station and catch a comfortable 25 minute train ride to the centre of San Jose.
Other Things to Note
Day trip suggestions
1. Poas Volcano is one hour away and is the most popular tourist attraction in Costa Rica. Its definitely worth the trip. You can drive there or private transportation can be arranged.
2. La Paz Waterfall Gardens is a beautiful place to visit, amazing animals and spectacular waterfalls, and the lunch is great. If you leave for Poas Volcano early you could even visit both places in one day.
3. San Jose has some nice places to visit. Because of the traffic we recommend that you take the train that leaves from San Antonio de Belen, just a 10 minute walk to the train station. Once in San Jose, places to visit are Teatro Nacional, Museo de Oro, Museo Nacional and the local artisan markets nearby.
TOURS can be arranged with a local company TAM

The house is cute and cozy but unfortunately it is located on a very busy street. The noise of the street made it difficult to sleep at night. There was no toilet paper in the house which was a slight inconvenience for us. But besides that, our stay was good. Luis was very friendly when greeting us upon our arrival.
Marie's cabin is absolutely adorable! The cabin is nice and cozy, located in a beautiful yard. It is very close to the airport, which was very convenient after coming in after a long day of travel. Marie was out of town, so her husband Luis was the one to welcome us. He was very kind, supportive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Marie was WONDERFUL about communication with us before the trip, during our trip, and until she knew we had made it to the cabin. I would highly recommend staying at this lovely little cabana. It is a true gem!
There were a couple of things that could've gone much better during our stay. First, I never received an email with the picture of the exterior of the house or contact phone numbers. Marie said she sent it but I unfortunately did not receive it. If you do book here make sure you receive both. The house is on a busy street no room to park on the street and look for the house and no there is no house number. Our drive from Arenal took closer to 4.5 hours instead of the anticipated 3 hours so we arrived to the airport area about 7:30 pm and drove around for 30 min looking for the house. We pulled up to the gate when we finally found it and buzzer/intercom was broken, Marie was out of town, and we didn't have a contact name or number for the maid. We were forced to check into a nearby hotel instead. The next day we finally got a phone number from Marie for the maid and we checked in. The house is small and pretty rustic, outside you have to watch where you step... two big dogs.
After the maid showed us in and gave us the key we didn't see her again for the rest of our stay. We didn't see anyone else again until 5:30 am the next morning as we were headed out the door for the airport when Marie's stepson said to let him know if we needed anything. A little late in my opinion. Some assistance with info on returning our rental car and places to eat would've been a great help.
This space is absolutely charming! Spacious kitchen and amazing modern bathroom with glass and stone detail. The cabin has great wood details and a beautiful garden as well as a security gate to the villas property.
Maria and her husband and their staff, Esmerelda were all very accommodating and communicative and did everything to help us that we needed. Would definitely stay here again if visiting San Jose.
She greeted us at the gate to her home and showed us around. She told us about several restaurants in the area that were excellent. Eggs, bread, coffee, and fruit were provided for breakfast. The cottage was very nice and comfortable.
Marie's cabin made for a great first night in Costa Rica. Her cabin is as warm and inviting as the pictures represent. It is close by the airport so very convenient and Marie herself was a most gracious and patient hostess. Her cabin is safe and clean and located just up the street from a little mall with a market, coffee shop, bank, and pizza! We had a very pleasant experience with Marie and her cabin.
What a Perfect place to start a trip to Costa Rica. This place is not far from the Airport. The fresh fruit and coffee where a bonus. But, I loved that Marie spoke English- This was my first trip out of the US. It was nice to have a conversation with someone in my own language. (eased my anxiety)
She was very kind and has a wonderful family-- I would recommend staying here.
