Commercial Drive is an amazing, culturally diverse neighbourhood, with dozens of restaurants, cafes, bars and boutiques. It's home to many outdoor festivals like Car Feet Day and Italian Days. Here's how Tourism Vancouver describes the neighbourhood:
A confluence of cultures makes Commercial Drive, or "The Drive," the place to go for an urban experience of the young and hip Vancouver crowd. Formerly known as "Little Italy," this diverse neighbourhood is home to students, writers, artists and other bohemians. Lots of different restaurants offering every kind of cuisine imaginable make this a great place to grab an authentic ethnic meal.
-Easy to find parking on the street
-less than a 5 minute walk to nearest bus stop
-10 minute walk to skytrain (subway)
Other Things to Note
If you are staying for more than a few days and would like occasional/regular cleaning service during your stay, let us know in advance and we can arrange it for you.
While we do not have a dedicated parking spot, there is almost always parking out on the street right in front of our house.
More specifics on laundry: On the ground level of our house, adjoining the garden suite, but not a part of it, there is an laundry room that we also go downstairs to use. if there are regular times you want to do laundry, we can make access available to you during those times. Or if you need access during an unscheduled time, just email or call and we can give you access.
If you need to arrange for a taxi during your stay, we recommend Black Top at (phone number hidden). They are usually at our house in under 10 minutes (unless its raining and rush hour).
-Pets are typically allowed, and are considered on a case by case basis.
-We won't have late night parties, and don't expect you to either.
Jen and Sandy's garden suite was just as described. A very clean, bright space. Lovely comfy bed. Loved waking up to coffee fixings stocked in the suite. Lots of great books to browse through while relaxing. Thank you!!!
Jen was excellent and was very helpful--although we didn't really see her much.
The room was clean and well supplied for anyone who needs to use a kitchen, the bed is comfy and queen size. Suites are always a little small than they look in the photo and this one suite is no exception (so you know I'm unbiased)--but then with an excellent suit like this you are getting a very livable place instead of a hotel room.
The neighborhood is serene, just like the suite. A fantastic Pizza place down the road is well known and makes old Italian village style pizza in a wood oven. Small Catholic church a block over. Easy to get into downtown. Easy to get around on bike.
hosts kindly let me check in AND check out later, which was most helpful in avoiding the expected rains on both days. an extremely private and quiet pied-a-terre; perfect for doing work needing these qualities. glitches were attended to immediately. hosts plan on upgrading windows to open. and yes, suite is as shown, and is two short blocks away from one of Vancouver's eclectic, hopping, interesting neighborhoods.
My husband and I had a lovely night staying in Sandy and Jen's Airbnb! The place was clean, bright and cozy and the bed was really comfortable! Most wonderfully - they allow pets - a big bonus for folks like us who do not feel comfortable leaving our pups in doggy daycare when we travel!
Me encanto!
Jen & Sandy are great hosts - very friendly and responded within minutes when we had a question. The apartment itself is a small one (but spacious enough for the two of us and our little baby) - but done in a great way as one can see at the pictures with a beautiful garden where you can sit (e.g. for breakfast in the sun), a well-equipped kitchen, hypoallergenic bedding. It's location couldn't be better. A short walk (5 mins at the max) to Commercial Drive with lots of great restaurants (we enjoyed lots of them with food from all over the world), coffee shops and stores. Bus 20 takes you in 20 mins straight to downtown for 2.75 CAD - or take the skytrain from Commercial Drive. We were glad we didn't pick an apartment downtown as Commercial Drive/East Van was just perfect for us. We met both Sandy and Jen in person and had some very nice chats. We stayed for a total of 13 days and will come back when we should be in Vancouver again.
hi Jen and Sandy, we really enjoyed staying in your gardensuite for our holiday.. eventho there was no snow in the mountains closeby ;-) we really took the time to explore the city and Vancouver Island.
We really felt at home in the clean and cozy Suite. Shower was great, good presure and always hot water ;-)
All kitchen equiptement is working, there is even a juicer!
Its great that the gardensuite has his own entrance.
Walk down 2 streets to do the Organic grocery shopping on 'The Drive' and cook your own meal or just wander around for so many choices of Restaurants!
Its all there..! in short, a great spot!

We are both huge fans of travelling, and big advocates of Vancouver. We are proud to say there is no where else that we'd rather live, and are always happy to talk with guests and visitors about all the awesome things to do in our city and surrounding areas.
We are also huge fans of our neighbourhood, and think its a great place to make home base when exploring BC.
