This is a quiet neighborhood. Everyone has 5 or more acres. Many neighbors grow coffee, macnuts, avocados and fruits of all kind. We could arrange farm tours for you if you would like. We are very involved with our local community and It is a great one.

Quiet, scenic, relaxing and a perfect place for checking out South Kona area. Great snorkeling spots nearby and the drive to Kailua-Kona feels like a breeze albeit the closer part of an hour. Sun all morning long and the weather systems bring clouds around noon. Always a sunsett on the weat coast and by nightfall beautiful stars and pleasant forest life sing you to sleep. Kat and Joe were very friendly and pleasant hosts and their homegrown fruit was spectacular! The advice and directions from Joe plus key insights provided by The Big Island Revealed book was more then enough to keep one's trip filled with activities! Highly recommended, this was my first stay. -April 2017 ~ Aloha~

We had a great time - our 2nd stay here. Very good location for going to the volcano and south beaches. Very comfortable - we had no problems with any noise upstairs. Well equipped kitchen.

We enjoyed a 2 week stay in the comfortable jungle view in the 1 bedroom apartment of Kat and Joe's duplex. The home had a well-appointed kitchen with nearly everything you need to cook dinner and relax after visiting Pu'uhonua O Honaunau or Hookena, or a longer drive to South Point and Volcanoes National Park. We had a good washer and dryer available just outside and adjacent parking. It was a nice price point of amenities versus cost.

Kat & Joe were lovely hosts - responsive, accommodating and helpful. The well laid out 1 bedroom unit is clean, comfortable, beautifully built, and well stocked with everything you might need. The upstairs tenant works nightshift, which worked well as we were rarely at home at the same time. The surrounding property was ideal for travelling with a young child - a large grassy yard surrounded by a beautiful garden with a variety of tropical fruit trees, and friendly dogs/cat and a family on the same lot. The location is fairly remote, with many things we wanted to see, and services, a 30 min to 1 hour drive away. Plan ahead, and get your groceries in Kona before you arrive. Bring warm clothes - the high elevation means that evenings are colder than you would expect. A lovely stay all around :).

We grew up in Minnesota. Joe is part Hawaiian and his family is originally from Waipio Valley. We have been together for 20 years. He is the love of my life. Between us we have 5 children, 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. We are both very active. We bike, swim, hike, camp and like to travel. We have 5 acres that holds 3 homes that Joe built. We also have a cabin in Waipio Valley on the land where Joe's mother was raised. I am a very blessed lady!!!!!
