The good: Josh did a great job of communicating. The location was nice. The room was clean. The price was affordable.
The bad: Our window was broken with a note that said not to touch it. There were holes in the wall covered by paper. A cabinet fell off when I opened it. Multiple people stay in this house at a time. I could hear people in the other rooms very easily. We had to share a bathroom with them as well.
Prior to arriving, Josh sent a very detailed and clearly written email with all of the instructions, very helpful!
The house is a block away from Haight Street with unlimited options for food and drink. On the other side is Panhandle Park and only a few blocks from Golden Gate Park. Parking can be trying, but that is San Francisco and to be expected.
Room #4 is on the top floor. It does have a sitting area with a sink/counter, table and two chairs. The light was burnt out in this area, so we did not spend much time there after it started to get dark. It would be helpful if the rooms with a counter/sink area had a couple of sets of silverware. I understand the rationale for not supplying silverware with the added maintenance, but it would be a nice addition. The bedroom was roomy and comfortable with one chair. A second chair would be helpful as the bed, which is very comfortable to sleep in is definitely not comfortable to sit and recline against the headboard. There were holes in the walls with cardboard thumbtacked over the holes. And there was a blanket hanging over the wall with the exposed pipes from the bathroom shower & sink.
There is a small community refrigerator and a microwave inside the front door. I guess you can bring home leftovers and store them if there is room. And warm them up in the microwave. There are plastic forks sitting on top of the microwave.
The bathroom is shared with the people on the floor. It works pretty well and everyone works together. With people coming and leaving, there was not anything cleaned in the bathroom for the six nights we were there. I do not know for sure that the bathrooms are cleaned only once a week, but the cleaning crew was there on the Friday we arrived and I did not see them again during the week. I was not there often during the day, so they could have been there. But the small garbage can was full by the end of the week when I left.
Overall, this is a conveniently located room. It doesn't have a lot of frills, but is a safe and comfortable place to sleep and certainly puts you in the middle of the action!
You really can't beat the location of Josh's place. Right next to Haight street, across from the park, and really close to anywhere else you could possibly want to go in San Francisco. We really didn't see Josh at all, but we found everything we needed easily and quickly. The space was very clean and parking around the neighborhood was pretty easy.
We had a great stay at this location! There is so much to do within walking distance, and using public transportation was a breeze. We had a rental car and were able to find 24-hour free parking within one block!
The room needed a little TLC (holes in the wall covered with paper, paper plates, and a blanket), but it was still charming anyway and was perfect for our stay.
Check in and check out couldn't have been any easier with the passcode locking system.
Sharing the bathroom with the other visitors on our floor posed little issue, and it was in good working order.
Josh was a fantastic host. He was friendly and willing to answer any and all questions I had. He also provided helpful information on the area, public transit, and parking prior to my arrival.
Loved the neighborhood/surrounding area of where we stayed. We never saw Josh, but the room was nice, and bathroom was right next door (shared with the people across the hall). The only thing we wished was different was that water/snacks or breakfast was included in the stay—other than that it was worth the price!
Josh has a fantastic house, and Room 4 is a fantastic room. My wife and I were very happy with our stay.
Josh was a great host! He made sure that the space was super clean and I appreciated the little details like the jar of brownie bites, as well as games and reading material in the sitting area. The house is old but I that's what gives it a lot of charm. As for the neighborhood it's historic and super cool for those who like thrift shops and at hip boutiques. There's also a Muni stop right at Clayton and Haight which is super convenient for out of towners.
