The space

The carriage house is a beautiful, architect-designed apartment 2 miles from Longwood Gardens and 5 miles from Winterthur and Brandywine River Museum--you cannot find a more convenient location for exploring the Brandywine Valley and Chester County. You'll enjoy the charm of an historic property nestled in expansive gardens along with the privacy of your own separate space/entrance.The house offers country views from every window. With easy access to Kennett Square and Wilmington for restaurants and entertainment, this property combines the best of old and new, town and country. The kitchen is stocked with cooking and tableware, and includes stainless appliances, a microwave, soapstone counter top and eating counter with stools. A smart television offers cable and Netflix; there is wireless internet access. Upstairs amenities include a spacious bedroom with a queen bed and plenty of storage space, a bath with pedestal sink and tile shower, plus washer and dryer.

Guest access

The property has a wildflower meadow (late spring to fall--sorry, it's a typical winter landscape November-April!) with honeybee hives, a walking path and gardens. After touring the area, take your book or glass of wine to one of several outdoor seating areas to relax. With your own kitchen, you'll have the flexibility of eating in or dining out, with downtown Kennett just 3 miles away.

Interaction with guests

I live next door and can offer suggestions as I know the local gardens and museums well. Interested in a country walk, cycling route or a driving tour of horse country? Visiting local wineries? Looking for a great restaurant? Just ask. The space is quite private, however, and I leave you alone unless you need me--it is totally up to you.

The neighborhood

Neighbors include "Dutch" (my horse), "Molly" (his cute girlfriend), and "Emu" (you guessed it) across the road. It's pretty peaceful here!

Getting around

Parking is available for two cars.

Other things to note

The apartment is not handicap accessible and not intended for children, however, I can sometimes make an exception and do have an air mattress. If so, there is an additional fee regardless of age.

Hi there. I've lived here over 20 years and love everything about this area. No longer in the corporate world, I now enjoy a relaxed lifestyle that includes gardening, throwing pottery in my studio, learning the banjo and traveling every chance I get. I have a horse across the street that I ride most weekends. I have been fortunate to stay in beautiful houses the world over and want to share the carriage house with people who value staying somewhere special. Come for a weekend or an extended stay--either way, you'll feel right at home.
