About the location:
The apartment is located in the centre of Barcelona in the 1st District “ La Ciutat Vella”, it is in the heart of the Gothic quarter next to "Plaza Reial" with lanterns by Gaudi and a step away from The Famous pedestrian boulevard " The Ramblas" (The main street in Barcelona) with Gaudi's building "Palau Guell" 1 Min away. We are situated close to most of the well-known tourist attractions.
The apartment is on a famous street with its old restaurants and Catalan Tapas bars. There is also ‘’Plaza St. George Orwell’ (locally known as “Plaza Tripi"), all around the corner. The nearby streets contain many of the city's most emblematic buildings.
The narrow, winding streets create quite a labyrinth meaning it can take a while to get one's bearings! I recommend that you should always look up and around in case of missing some of the nicest sites. The Gothic quarter has plenty of peaceful squares (plazas) where you can relax and enjoy your surroundings. If we are around during your stay I will gladly take you on a tour of the neighborhood so you can find your feet here!
Transport is easily accessible in this part of town (metro, taxi, bus). However this quarter is relatively small and most of the city’s attractions are a walk away distance.
Our housekeeper also offers transport from 25 euro for up to 4 persons from airport directly to the apartment and vice versa if needed!
(Note there is a late check in fee)
Flow has lived here for many years, his Grandmother being Catalan. Flow and I met here in Barcelona years ago when we studied theatre and happily decided to continue on our Barcelona adventure. Between us speak Spanish, French and English :)
For any further information please contact us - we will be willing to help in any way possible!
Flow and Anuk:)
I can highly recommend this place!
Admittedly we had some communication problems after our arrival, but Flo managed to get to the flat quickly! However, the room was really nice, the bed was super comfortable and the bathroom clean! Furthermore Flo gave us a lot of advice what we should do in Barcelona!
Guess we'll meet again next time we visit Barca :)
Nice apartment in the middle of Barcelona, with lovely people.
Had a wonderful stay in Flo & Anuks place. Big room, perfectly located. The neighbours can be a bit loud late at night and the houses are old and quite noisy, so if you're a light sleeper, do bring earplugs. But with those in my ears, I slept like a baby. I understood that they are going to renovate for a few weeks now, can't wait to see the new and improved place. Thanks a lot again, and hope to see you again sometimes! Ivar & Marieke
A great place in the heart of Barcelona, the appartment is quiet (overlooks the courtyard) and beautiful ! Perfect hosts, full of good advices and nice addresses, thank you Flow for your welcome and your tips!
Excellent location, great room with private balcony and bathroom, Flow was helpful, friendly, and available if I needed anything. I would recommend this place.
I fell in love with Flow and Anuk's guesthouse and neighborhood! Just steps from so many great things to explore. For a quick, affordable bite to eat, I would especially recommend the vegan deli down the street (towards George Orwell plaza).
The room was bright and very spacious - a great value. While I didn't meet Flow and Anuk since they were out of town, I appreciated their detailed guide/manual left in my room. Catty, Carlos and their daughter served as wonderful hosts. I hope I can visit the great city of Barcelona again soon and wouldn't hesitate to stay in this space again. Thanks!
Great location and good value, charming old building and other guests were nice. Having Cathy and Carlos pick us up from the airport was fantastic. Sorry we missed Flow's guided tour, but they were both away. No street noise in the apartment which watch appreciated.
Would recommend to others.
This was a charming room with bath and balcony. It was part of a multi unit apartment with shared kitchen and living space. Flow and Atuk were away but we were well cared for by Cathy and her family. The place is quaint, quirky and comfortable. We especially enjoyed having coffee on the little balcony. The room is at the back of the building away from the street and overlooking a sterile courtyard so noise was limited. Location was perfect for enjoying the city walks.
The only downside for some might be the stairs. 5 flights but older buildings don't have elevators so be aware.
We found the location perfect for our visit to amazing Barcelona. We spent hours walking around the immediate area (beach, marina, city centre Streets including La Rambla) and the Metro (and buses) were just a short step away for the sights further out. Our room (especially the bed) was very comfortable and we especially appreciated our own ensuite. Anuk and her husband Flo were very easy to talk to and obviously have a great passion for Barcelona and playing a part in welcoming people to their city.
It would be a good choice if
1) Your flat-mates are considerate as the room posted on Airbnb is one of the few rooms in a Guesthouse. That is the biggest room with a separate toilet. Other guests share common toilets.
2) If you don't mind the building itself and the surrounding environment are not that clean.
3) If you don't mind the furnitures and the decoration are dilapidated.
4) If your neighbors do not talk downstairs in the midnight.
5) If you can reach Flow and Anuk after your arrival.
We had good flat-mates and we had no problems with the surrounding environment and the furnitures. We were awakened up by somebody chatting downstairs from 4 am to 5 am (they chatted for the whole hour!). We called Anuk on the day of my arrival but she didn't answer the phone. Then we left her a voice message but she didn't check her voice mail box. At last we got into the flat by ourselves. It was by sheer luck as you need to get into the building first. No use to ring the bell as the guests are instructed not to answer the bell. We got into the building and walked up. So happened the guesthouse door was not locked and we got it and asked other flat-mates the way to contact Anuk. I can't imagine how my situation would be if I did not have luck.
I am not being sacarstic to write "It would be a good choice..." in the beginning of my comment. If you don't have my hiccups or have little concerns over the furnitures or enviroment, it would be a good choice.
Bianca and partner did not get in touch with us till they stood in front of our apartment on the evening of their arrival. One of our guests opened the door for them and then I talked them step by step over the phone how to access their room etc. When they opened their room door they found everything clean and awaiting them so it was not like we were not expecting them. We are very responsive to our guests and after hosting hundreds of people it is not about luck any more, we have a developed system in place to ensure an easy check in. I really feel giving your host 24 hours notice for your check in time is essential to making it easy. Bianca called once and got my voice mail but not long after that I was on the phone to her explaining where everything was. This is the old Gothic quarter - some people see dilapidated others see charm I guess!
