Sit on our comfy couch and read a book or spend time out on one of our two balconies drinking organic coffee. You can cook in a full kitchen and have dinner in the dining room. You don't just get a room to sleep in, you get a whole home to live in.
My husband and I have two full time jobs and two great dogs, Minnie and Stormy. Monday through Friday we are gone most of the day and feel we have a lot of extra space not being used and wasted. So we decided to open our home to the everyday traveler looking for a great deal and a pleasant experience.
Our condominium is in a secure, gated complex with key access. We have free guest parking amidst the resident parking below our condo. The neighborhood has plenty of places to eat and shop nearby and is very close to public transportation.
If you arrive at the Los Angeles airport (LAX), it's very easy to jump on a Flyaway bus that brings passengers straight to Van Nuys. That trip takes about 30-45 minutes and costs $8 one way. We live five minutes from the Flyaway bus location so if we're home, we can come pick you up!

Interaction with Guests
We work most of the day, but make dinner at home every night. We spend the weekends at the gym and relaxing at home with our dogs.
We have lived in our home here in Los Angeles for many years, so we can give you many insights and tips on what to see and when to brave the crazy LA traffic!
We lived in South Korea for two years, so we are very Korean-friendly, and even speak a little of the language.
We know how difficult it is to find 100% organic food to eat when we travel, so we wanted to make it very easy for guests to eat healthy on their travels.
We are also business-friendly, as we both have full-time careers (Sandy is a private high school science teacher in Beverly Hills and Derek handles investments for the South Korean government). If you're here on business and need time to work in a quiet space, we get it!
Our neighborhood is safe, quiet, middle class, and very racially diverse. The people are friendly and we've never had any problems.
Our home faces a major street that has many bus stops and there is a metro station around the corner, less than a mile away.
Other Things to Note
We travel the world and love meeting new people to learn about their culture and more about ourselves. Some of our best trips have been spent interacting with the locals. We have always appreciated the kind-hearted people who have given us our greatest memories. Now it’s our turn to give back.
We are definitely international-traveler-friendly!
We love our home, we love our animals, and we’d love for you to have a great experience here in Los Angeles. Please call our home your home for the short time you are with us.
Our complex is not ADA friendly, as there are stairs to climb. There is free posted Guest Parking among the reserved resident parking.
We also chose not to own a TV because we believe it to be a distraction. But we have a great reading selection, so if you're a fan of Stephen King, you're in luck!
You'll need to be okay around and friendly with dogs because ours are incredibly sweet, and we consider them part of our family.
We have beautiful hardwood floors and ask that no shoes be worn inside the house.
No smoking allowed anywhere near our home or in the courtyard.
Don't let the dogs out.
Just be a good human being :)
Sandy and Derek, as well as their friend, Linda are very nice. The actual bedroom is of high agreement with the photos and description on airbnb. Clean, bright, fragrant and neat. I like living in this house. Next time I will still choose here if I have to go to the japanese garden again.
Staying in Sandy and Derek's home was by far our best airbnb experience thus far. Not only was Sandy and Derek's home clean, comfortable and relaxing but the breakfast in the morning each day was amazing. This was our first experience with not having a whole apartment to ourselves with airbnb and I am so happy that it was with Sandy and Derek because it felt very comfortable and safe. Sandy, Derek (and Linda!) all made us feel very welcome and at ease on our vacation. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Sandy and Derek were very welcoming, warm, and easy-going people. They made my experience great and I loved hearing their stories of traveling around the world. They also provided a really nice, delicious breakfast. Wish I could have stayed longer than one night. Will definitely have to come back again!
it's fantastic experience
Sandy and Derek are warmhearted
Breakfast is so good
We tried three different types breakfast in three days
The room is clean and quiet
Decoration is also amazing
The listing description was completely accurate. The neighborhood was safe and pleasant, with a gym within easy walking distance (a surprise bonus). Parking was never a problem. The evening of my arrival, Derek very kindly came down to help me find my way, as it was dark when I arrived. Both he and Sandy were friendly and welcoming. I had expressed concerns about possibly being allergic to their dogs, and the hosts were very conscientious about making sure that the dogs were never let in to my room/bathroom. The breakfasts were delicious and very generous (I didn't expect cooked breakfasts almost every day!). The hosts were friendly without being intrusive; it was nice to be greeted upon my return every day without feeling an obligation to make conversation when I wanted private time.
-This was my first Airbnb experience, and Sandy and Derek were extremely responsive from the start. I never had to wait for them to answer my questions--and I had a lot of them, since I was not familiar with the Airbnb process. The hosts were very patient and informative.
Sandy & Derek were very nice people!! They were so accommodating and made great breakfasts!!!! Home was lovely and warm. Good location and easy to find. Thanks for being so nice
We are a fun-loving couple who've been together for over a decade. We met in college, we love to travel the world, and we love our dogs. An organic lifestyle is important to us and we eat only 100% certified organic food.
I was raised in Tucson, Arizona and Derek was raised in San Antonio, Texas. We met and fell in love while attending Texas Tech University. We both studied biology and after graduating we began traveling the world. Because I am a high school science teacher, we plan our trips over the summers, with the most recent trip being to see a FIFA World Cup game in Brazil, hike around the Amazon Rainforest, and scuba dive in the Galapagos Islands!
We are really enjoying being hosts on airbnb and meeting people from all over is so much fun! Opening up our home to new guests has been a truly enlightening experience.
